  1. When they blew up the bullpen at the trade deadline I wasn’t on board. I thought they were a couple bats way from being a good team. But I thought, well they don’t believe in the lineup and are going to blow it up which I would understand. Then they said they were not blowing it up and were going to build on this roster. This I didn’t like because I don’t believe you can rebuild a bullpen that quickly but whatever. Go get a couple bats at first base and left field and see what you can do. Then they tender Larnach and sign Bell which doesn’t move the needle at all. In summary I have no idea what they are doing from a baseball perspective. If they catch lightning in a bottle they can win some games. Most likely they win 77 games the next two years and waste the trade value of Ryan, Lopez and Jeffers. I believe their plan (whatever it is) is not being driven by baseball priorities. They are saying they are all in but Tom Pohlad basically admitted they are not when he commented that this isn’t the right time to invest higher payroll in this lineup. An old saying comes to mind: Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining.
  2. Agree with all of this especially about the importance of this year. Make or break for several players
  3. There is zero chance that Houston sees the bigs this year. There is a better chance that he never sees the big leagues than is up this year. Dude has some serious work to do with the bat.
  4. As always, an interesting topic. He clearly played better on both sides of the ball the last couple months. Not every player has to be a five tool player but they do have to bring something to the table. In Martins case, if he can play good defense in left and get on base, that would be a huge improvement in what we have been getting from left field lately. The trick is how does he handle the inevitable adjustments the league is going to make. Some guys handle it, the rest become high school coaches.
  5. Great article as always. Got to the bigs the year I was born and pitched until I graduated from college. Crazy. He was just a really good all around athlete. He was asked what his strongest memory of 1965 was and his answer was revealing. “Most people assume it was the World Series. What hit me the hardest was that in spring training my best friend (Tony O) couldn’t stay in the same hotel as me”
  6. This. I don’t care if they hit standing on their heads I just want guys that hit. We need several.
  7. Chili also had the great quote in the famous game 6. when Puck said I’m gonna lay down a bunt Chili replied Bunt my ass, hit it out of here and let’s go home which of course Puck did.
  8. It’s interesting that most of these guys were established stars that were at the tail end of their careers but delayed Father Time. Chili Davis was really an underrated addition - switch hitter with good power from both sides.
  9. Unfortunately with his body type and at his age he is likely to start getting slower, not faster.
  10. I’m not jumping to any assumptions. That’s precisely my point.
  11. Without access to audited financial statements and related subsidiaries none of know anything about the Twins finances. The most credible information in this sphere is that Forbes reported the Twins had a $19 million profit for 2023.
  12. Whoever they pick I want upside at that spot. No safe picks that don’t have star potential.
  13. Excellent topic and welcome compared to beating various dead horses. I’m afraid I don’t have anything to offer since it’s unclear to me what they are actually trying to do. I know they have stated they are trying to win but I don’t really see it. I think they are trying to not be horrible while making some money in 2026. If this is the case then it doesn’t really matter. If they were really trying to win they would upgrade one of the corner outfield spots via trade or free agency. I knew that was dead when they tendered Larnach. So, since I don’t see them contending I would trade Larnach and Julien if that is even possible and roll with Roden / Martin in left. At least those guys might be part of the future. As crazy as it sounds I would give Outman 2 months to show something but be quick to cut him if he sucks. All of these guys will leave if / when EmRod, Jenkins and GG are ready for the bigs. Overall goal is to have a vision of what the future outfield is going to look like by the end of the year and I doubt any / many of these current MLB guys are part of the plan. There is no there, there.
  14. Perhaps they should just have him play with his left foot on the bag. He’ll never be late to the bag or allow a hit down the line. Seriously does anyone think this doesn’t have other consequences? If Bell has to be closer to the bag that leaves more territory for the second baseman to cover. Not like we are stellar there either
  15. I really don’t care what he says. I’ll be judging by his actions. If he really has been in charge for a month then it’s business as usual, which is not acceptable.
  16. This will sort itself out. They need to find four infielders that can hit and play good defense. Right now they have zero. They do have some possibilities but this season needs to be the year it gets figured out. I’m not worried where Lee is going to play because until he proves he can be an effective mlb hitter he won’t play anywhere. Keaschall has promise but he has to keep it up because he isn’t good to contribute much on defense. Royce is now at the point where “potential” becomes a dirty word. They had the same situation with the outfield a couple years ago and have been waiting around for them to develop ever since let’s not make the same mistake with the infield.
  17. The most interesting comment to me was the reference to running the same playbook over and over and expecting a different result. Falvey is a one trick pony and that trick ain’t working so Tom will get a chance to show us if he is serious.
  18. So Ryan or Lopez can’t bring back a player that can help fill one of those holes longer term? Or even Ober or SWR?
  19. Here is a wild idea. Trade for a controlled first baseman that actually could solve the problem. I’ve heard that one way to be a good team is to add good players. Just tossing out wild ideas here……
  20. This is it in a nutshell. And you just took of those opportunities and chucked it out the window.
  21. Business as usual. There were two obvious spots where we could acquire a difference making bat - first base and one of the corner outfield spots. I guess that’s not happening.
