  1. I kind of focused on position players but want to acknowledge Dasan Hill and Charlee Soto. They have the tools to do stuff but A ball is so far away that anything can happen.
  2. Not surprising. The people that get excited about the Twins system focus more on quantity it seems. I focus on quality, players who can be difference makers. In this regard I see Walker Jenkins. K Culpepper has a chance to be a competent big league SS which is valuable. GG and EmRod have enough warts that they won’t be difference makers in the show. After that you are going to A ball for Tait which is miles away. This isn’t to say that an unheralded prospect or two pop up and have a run and provide depth. I’m actually most excited about the group of starters that are kind of between prospect and big league status. It’s not unlikely that one of them becomes a really good pitcher and several add good depth to the pitching staff. But I’m sorry I’m not going to get excited about prospects whose ceiling is replacement level or slightly above.
  3. I think 75.5 should be the number so I’ll take the over.
  4. Yep and they both had an insanely high babip during their hot streaks. Whatever Julien was going to be it wasn’t what he showed in 2023 but people just can’t let go of it. Some wise old baseball guy once said any player can be anything (good or bad) for 40 games. Eddie was lucky to have his luck at the start of his career.
  5. I appreciate these thoughts as I’ve been viewing it the other way. Meaning, the collapse of the RSNs and corresponding income means many owners will be more motivated to make gains in the next CBA. I can see your side too so it will be interesting to watch it play out.
  6. Call San Fran and get Eldridge and a reliever or SS prospect. Finally solves first base and possibly one of the many starter candidates steps up.
  7. He can improve his hitting certainly as experience surely helps. Whether that happens remains to be seen. What is pretty certain in my mind is that he is maxed out defensively. He’s not going to get faster (in fact he will soon start to get slower) or develop more arm strength. If he is going to be an everyday player it likely would be at third but we already have someone we are waiting on at third. Near term, where he plays isn’t the biggest concern as if he doesn’t hit better he won’t be playing anywhere.
  8. Conveniently no mention of the biggest flaw, the bullpen. I am interested in building a good to great team, not one that if everything goes their way they can win 83 games and flirt with a wildcard spot. Perhaps my expectations are unrealistic but I know that what they are doing now is not the path to real success.
  9. He justneeds the right opportunity, but whether that right opportunity exists in Minnesota isn't clear yet. The Twins have given him plenty of at bats and have largely shielded him from lefties. He’s 29 years old - this is who he is: a roughly average hitter who can’t hit lefties and isn’t good in the field. DH ing him is even worse as one should expect clear positive production from that spot.
  10. As I e stated numerous times on these boards, when they start rolling out intangibles as a player quality it usually means they aren’t very good anymore. You can keep the intangibles and give him 4mph on his fastball.
  11. There is zero chance the Twins are going to pay Joe what he will get in free agency and I don’t blame them. Thats why you trade him now. Let’s also not forget Joe hasn’t been an iron man on the mound. For the record, he is my favorite Twins pitcher.
  12. This is the third pipeline article and the talent level in each of the three has been underwhelming.
  13. My comment on Prielipp was related to his performance in AAA last year. I don’t think he performed at a level that gives him a spot in the show right away. If he is strong to start in AAA get him up in either role.
  14. This has been my thought as well (although I think Preliepp could use a little time in AAA). This is a very un-Falvey like idea however so I am expecting a couple more re-tread signings with some of those named pitchers cooling their heels in St Paul. I think Festa could be a good closer plus think of the entrance show as the Slim Reaper comes in from the pen.
  15. Very reasonable projection. I can’t even come up with a clever quip because watching the same cast of characters just isn’t that exciting.
  16. Only if the two relievers are prime Mariano Rivera and Joe Nathan.
  17. My theory, which is purely speculative, is that Falvey got Joe Pohlad to green light a rebuild beginning at last seasons trade deadline. The ensuing bad publicity caused the Twins to reconsider to the point that Joe was replaced with Tom who was charged with trying to keep the sinking ship afloat. Hence the we are going to try and be a contender. I believe that was purely messaging as Tom admitted that now wasn’t the right time to invest in higher payroll. Bottom line is that they are not making the proper baseball moves (ie true rebuild) just to try and survive a PR and ticket sales problem. My view is this is another example of winning not being a true priority with the Pohlads.
  18. I remember as a kid thinking Vida Blue is the coolest name ever.
  19. Rogers is basically Funderburk and that ain’t no compliment.
  20. I think you have assessed this accurately. Plus the pick is a comp round pick so it’s approximately in the 33-40 range. Better than nothing but definitely in the crap shoot territory.
  21. And Steve Sax. Painful to watch, they could be 35 feet from first base and throw it in the dugout. There are times when I think Julien trends that direction. If I recall correctly, at the end of his career Brian Harper got the yips throwing the ball back to the pitcher. Nowhere else but back to the pitcher.
  22. I think the question should be is Ober better than Mathews Abel, et al. And if he is healthy I believe the answer is yes.
