5 Truths About the 2026 Twins We Can't Ignore
Linus replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’ve enjoyed watching this team. Maybe because my expectations were realistic going into the season - about 75 wins. I think the handwriting was on the wall when they didn’t improve the pen over the winter. The problem with building a pen “on the fly” is that by the time you patch one together the season is cooked. Buck has been fantastic and Jeffers was a pleasure to watch hit before he got hurt. I was never a Taj fan when he was in Tampa but I’m changing my opinion- his command is improving just enough for him to succeed. Lee is moving in the right direction but for all his improvement is still a league average hitter. I’m glad they have been aggressive about moving guys to spots where they can be decent with the glove. There are pieces to build around but too many holes to fill before they can be really good. I just hope Zoll makes decisions at the deadline with a 5 year plan in mind. If they start squandering prospect capital on this club that would be a big mistake.- 45 replies

Twins Place Anthony Banda On Injured List
Linus replied to Steve Drumwright's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
We’ve pretty much tapped out all the pitching in the organization- maybe Culpepper? -
Scratch that - saw they put Banda on the IL

Thought of the same thing. Requires a 40 man spot which will make the Twins nervous.

Lee is doing better, no question. The home runs are a pleasant surprise but contact comes in lots of different forms (see Miranda, Jose). My late father would say “ Brooks doesn’t get his pitch to hit often enough”. Meaning he still swings at the pitchers pitch too much. With his good contact skills that results in weak contact. But I feel like he has improved in this area and hopefully continues to improve.

After thinking about this and reading a bunch of good comments I think the right thing to do is play him at second. He can be a good enough hitter for second but I just don’t see him ever hitting well enough to be a corner bat. If they deem him unplayable at second send him to St Paul to refine his fielding. If he never learns to be a good second baseman than we can add him to the pile of all bat no glove prospects that Falvey loved.
-
Agree with this except Royce. IMO he is still not hitting at a level good enough to be given a bat first position on the diamond, especially on a legit playoff team which I assume is what we are shooting for.

I agree. Jackson is finding ways to contribute even if the bat is underwhelming. The bunt yesterday was a smart play and he really called a good game for Prielipp-the Rockies hitters were fooled repeatedly. He throws much better than Caratini or Jeffers.

I actually like people who don’t talk unless they have something to say. Some of the Twins broadcasters should try it.

I think he looked pretty good out there for the first time I will join the chorus wondering why he isn’t in LF where his arm is less of a liability and his speed is more of an asset in the larger LF. It might be that they think he will read the ball off the bat better in RF having played the right side of the infield but that’s just a guess. What I know for sure is the bar to clear for acceptable hitting just got raised significantly. No way his current level of hitting is good enough for a corner outfielder on a legit playoff team.
-
Prielipp looked good. The curveball really baffled the Rockies. A little better control and we have something. Hat tip to Morris - guy has been great. And as others noted Kreidler has been a nice surprise. Alex Jackson with a productive game - bunt, good challenge and seemed to really keep Prielipps pitch mix unpredictable.

Nice to see Rojas pitching with control. Thats the only thing keeping him from being a good big league pitcher.

Regarding the OP, I don’t view any of this as more questions than answers. For me it’s incumbent on certain players to prove they should be a part of the plan going forward. We are not obligated to wait around and coax acceptable performance out of these guys ala Falvey. I’m really happy for Larnach, he’s having a decent season going on age thirty. He’s a little above average hitting if completely platoon protected and is now an acceptable corner outfielder. For this level of performance we had to wait 4 plus years of less than average performance in a corner outfield spot. Thats not how you win, thats how you lose. So Royce, Austin, Matt and Brooks play better, a lot better if you want to be part of the plan going forward. One caveat, if Lee hangs around this level of production I would keep him around as the utility infielder next year. The rest, if current performance is maintained, are all gone.

This is all true. Here’s a take that will set the TDers howling. I don’t want to extend Joe Ryan. He is going to get 5 or 6 years at $30-35 million per year. It would be a big mistake to be paying Ryan $35 million a year in his mid thirties. Trade him for near mlb ready talent and remake this team

Yankees’ Are ‘Making It No Secret’ That They Want Ryan Jeffers
Linus replied to Cody Christie's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Then we are in agreement . Jeffers and Ryan can bring back players that can contribute right away. Larnach might return a useful reliever. Trading people doesn’t mean taking A ball guys. -

Not playing prospects is part of the problem. If the Twins are going to be good they need upgrades at every position except CF. Your “glut” of outfield prospects might yield one good player. Your catching is in A ball and likely more to bust than be good in the bigs. So fine you and Tom P can sit on your hands and see where it gets you. -
This. It’s mind boggling to me that some people want to keep scuffling along with this same pattern of players and player usage and suddenly expect we are going to have a legitimately good team.

They have to sell. This organization needs upgrades at every position except CF. A couple of spots might be upgraded from the farm but nowhere near what’s needed. Buck stays and maybe Clemens if we can’t get good value. He would be a useful bench guy. But everyone else goes including Austin Martin if he will return anything. We have to quit the Falvey dilly dallying and start moving on from mediocre players unless a mediocre team is what you are shooting for.

It’s especially silly for 75 win teams. -
This has been a long time in the making. The Twins have made numerous mistakes over the years that has slowly alienated their fan base. Perfect example is the TV mess. The Twins cut out a big section of their fan base to by opting for more money. This is how most fans follow the team - take that away and they go away. I have to been to two games this year as I don’t live in the Cities. I’ve found parking within a few blocks of the stadium for $7. I never felt unsafe walking to and from the stadium and law enforcement had a noticeable presence. The ticket folks and ushers are very nice and the ballpark is still very nice. Oh and the Twins lost both games I attended with bullpen blowing up in both. The FO has slowly degraded this organization to the point that we are going to have to get a little lucky to get out of this rut of mediocrity.

Fundy and Orze both have whips of 1.5. That means plenty of baserunners whenever they enter a game. It must be a bad feeling if you are Taj watching Fundy doing Fundy things. Keaschall made all the plays he had to in RF. Why they don’t play him in left and Larnach in right is a mystery to me. Martin continues to show on a regular basis that he lacks baseball smarts. If im Zoll I would be comfortable in a decision that says Austin is not part of our future. Positives, positives….Taj looked good and Royce looks really comfortable at first. I think he could be a plus defender at first
