  1. 1. Sign Swanson. 2. Move Kiriloff to the OF; Celestino goes to St. Paul. 3. Trade Kepler for a solid relief pitcher, add Wallner, trade/drop Pagan 4a. Add an additional solid FA relief pitcher, drop Megill or Moran; or 4b. Insert Rodon in the Rotation; Ober or Maeda goes to the pen; or 4c. Sign a better RH OF bat (not sure who); Garlick goes to St. Paul; or 5. Do none of the above, sell big time at the deadline, draw 1.5MM at best, and let the young guys (Lee, Lewis, Julien, Martin, Wallner, Winder, Varland, SWR, Sands, and Henriquez) play in August and September. Oh, and look for a new FO and Manager.
  2. Yeah, you are totally correct even if the rumor that they are still in hard on both is true. Having said that, desperate people do desperate things and our FO is looking pretty darn desperate right now. Besides, what a great way for Nephew Joe to make a big splash out of the gate. Maybe his uncles give him a Christmas gift.
  3. Yep. Only 55 years and a slight loss of hearing in my left ear from attending games 6 and 7 in ‘87.
  4. Just read on a Cubs- related site that their intel is that the Twins are still looking very hard at both Rodon and Swanson. There’s not that much surprise to that rumour I guess. But what if the ultimate pivot by Falvey from Correa is to sign both of them? It sounds outlandish, and far deeper pocket teams would need to be beat out in the bidding. But, even with the likely “overpay” (whatever that means), the total annual cost vs. Correa stand alone would probably only be about $20MM more ($50MM vs $30MM or so) and the lengths of the contracts would be shorter. The Twins could afford it and a few moves - trading Kepler for example - could ease the burden. These two signings would certainly fire up the base and position the team as the favorite in the Central. Who knows, with a true #1, we might even win a playoff game. Besides, signing just one doesn’t really move the dial neigh for this club on so many fronts. But both……? Falvey is a bit of a rabbit out of the hat puller. I’m not putting anything past him at this point. Unlikely - for sure. Impossible - no. View full rumor

  6. Hear me out - as outlandish as this sounds. What if Falvey has one huge kick save left in his arsenal? That kick save would be to sign Rodon and Swanson. It’s no as outlandish as it sounds. Dollars spent for Rodon plus Swanson > Correa; but maybe only by $15MM annually and probably for fewer years. One of the two is probably not enough to get the fan base excited or get us over the hump. But both…… Its not crazy and I’m not putting it past Falvey that this strategy isn’t on his mind right now.
  7. Doc, there is a lot of truth in what you write. And punting via a complete rebuild trading anyone not going to be here in two - three years is certainly on the table - and that includes Mahle, Maeda, Gray, Polanco, Kepler and Arraez. Perhaps there is one giant kick save left in the bag for Falvey: sign both Swanson and Rodon. It’s not likely, but not impossible. And it may be the only strategy that averts or postpones what seems to be inevitable at this point.
  8. The ultimate kick save from Falvey would be to sign both Rodon and Swanson.
  9. It certainly won’t be Kyle Farmer, Max Kepler or Jorge Polanco. As much as I respect those three as baseball players, Farmer is just not going to make me turn up at the park and Max and Jorge - well, I’ve been there and done that with them.
  10. Of course they are. Boy, it didn’t take long for the wolves to start circling. The general consensus around the league must be that the Twins are now up the creek without a paddle. The “we can compete with Correa” illusion has been shattered and there is not much left behind it. The FO wrapped up the team’s entire persona in getting Correa signed, and now that he’s going somewhere else, it’s clear that the emperor is basically naked - a middling staff, no above average position player except Buxton (the few games he actually plays) and possibly Arraez, a depleted prospect list, and a disheartened fickle fan base. Falvey and Levine will be getting the calls from now until the trade deadline for any player who will not be part of the two-three year rebuild. There is a high likelihood that unless this team catches fire out of the gate, Mahle, Maeda, Gray, Kepler, Polanco and Arraez are gone by August 1.
  11. Falvey: Hey, nice job Zaidi, pinching Correa from us at the last minute like that. Hey, who am I kidding - we both know you were going to sign him once Judge was off the table. Anyway, what are you going to do now with that old other shortstop Crawford? Want to trade him? Zaidi: Why would you want him when you have Farmer (which btw is a legitimate question)? Falvey: Well, I’m kinda backed into a corner with the fan base and, even though we think Farmer’s ok, he’s not going to put butts in the seats or lead us to the playoffs. Zaidi: And Crawford will? Falvey: Well, probably not, but I have to look like I’m doing something. Who do you want for him? Zaidi: You know I’ve always liked you Derek and I’d never take advantage of you in your time of need. How about you send us that often injured guy - what’s his name, Lewis? Yeah and throw in that Lee guy too. Falvey: But those are my only two decent prospects I have left! Zaidi: Hey, don’t get worked up - I was just joshing you. I’ll take Gray and Lee. Take it or leave it. You have one minute to decide - I’m just leaving to take my wife out to dinner to celebrate stealing Correa from you. Lol
  12. The only thing keeping fan interest by September may be Arraez competing for another batting title. We’d better keep him now.
  13. Minnesota is a classic front running market - winning brings fans. 2022 was saved by the club playing meaningful baseball into September. A slow start and realistically out of it by mid-late June, coupled with this lineup, inflation pressures, and an iffy downtown, 18,000/game or under 1.5MM for the season sounds about right.
  14. Over/under: two of those three don’t pitch 100 innings this year, I’ve got the under. Which do you sign? Btw, Gray is so mad he only gets 5 innings per start, he’s probably out of here anyway.
  15. Could be. But Rocco is at the helm. It’s his responsibility overall. Now, possibly one could excuse Rocco a bit on this front if he were a strong in-game manager. But he’s not. You want to win as small market team? Better start with a manager/coaching staff that can get the most out of their players and be several games net positive over a season on in-game tactics/strategy. Rocco and his staff are neither.
  16. It’s the most realistic option and the truth. But it can be augmented: Pivot 5: Roll with what we have but trade out our FO and Rocco for a new unit who can develop our young talent - not only in the minors, but also when they get to the Show, Having that type of team leadership is how small/mid market teams can flourish.
  17. 100%. This is critical for small/mid market team success. We have not had it and should not expect to with Rocco.
  18. But Brock’s point is that it is not just about Correa. This FO, outside of one year (a really good year where a juiced ball matched their Bomba strategy), haven’t really done much. Please, spare us the comments re the COVID year. And there is not one playoff game win, let alone a series. That’s failing. Plain and simple - failing. Sure, they’ve had some wins - the Gray and Ryan trades look good and Nelson Cruz was an inspired pickup (love the Vasquez deal too). And, yes, there were injuries, But there have been just as many poor trades and bad FAs. Player development - from the minors and into the majors - has been ok at best. A small/mid market team like the Twins can’t afford to be just ok in player development. Sano and Kepler have rotted since ‘19. It really seems like CC was an all or nothing strategy. Get Swanson and there’s a glimmer. In any event, this FO, and this coaching staff, have not proven they are a good match for a franchise like the Twins.
  19. Polanco won’t be a Twin by the trade deadline…….
  20. Well, when you put it that way…. Face it, unless option 1 comes to fruition, the Twins are in a big hole for ‘23. There is no need to go long a top starter with the lineup we are projected to have in ‘23. So don’t waste the big bucks now and certainly do not deplete further our dwindling prospect list. Maybe we could move Kepler for IKF, but that is hardly a needle mover. Even with signing CC, the overarching goal was to keep building for a wide open window starting as early as ‘24, while still having a shot in ‘23. Swanson is the only realistic option that keeps that strategy alive. If that doesn’t work, we just shouldn’t panic. Yeah, maybe add some sort of seat filler, but the key is to keep building for a new window with a new young, affordable core.
  21. Haha - when you think about it, they already have a lot who won’t be part of the next “open window”: Kepler, Polanco, Farmer, maybe Arraez (hopefully he stays) Lopez, and at least two of Mahle, Maeda, and Gray. Others?
  22. Agree, the FO was putting chips down in the hope that we could make a run with CC, and now maybe Swanson. But the old “young core” is over, done. We did not get it done with BB, MK, MS, JP, and JB (who rightfully left earlier). Mahle was a Hail Mary to try to save last season (that backfired) plus a bet CC would return this year (that backfired too). And resigning CC was more about a competitive rebuild - I think he even understood he was going to be a key cog in getting the new young guys developed. With CC this team would have a had a shot in ‘23, but would really would have been developing for a more open window in ‘24-‘26. That’s the bet the FO was willing to make by paying big money on a long term deal for CC.
  23. Agree. Arraez stays
  24. Disagree. Arraez is basically the face of the franchise right now (sorry 100 game Buxton). He’s not being traded.
