  1. Chourio, Merrill, Volpe, Young and others weren't crushing just holding their own at a young age. IMO Jenkins is at the same level of prospect as them. I agree mostly with you on the 40 man, specifically about the pitchers, I included them to show how bad the 40 man is. Erod getting hurt again wasn't in the plans, I am OK with his spot on there healthy or not (if he can stay healthy I am bringing him up after I trade Larnach), but them thinking Miranda, Julien Martin and France being anything more than backups is on them, the odds were against all 4 or them (or even 2) succeeding. Also, I get the third catcher spot I would imagine most teams third catcher is similar. I look at Culpepper like Jackson Holiday, get him up (most likely he will be blown away like Holiday was last year) and then start him in the minors and get him up if he hitting. (Not a fan of giving two unproven rookies the starting job out of spring training. They have to do a better job of finding out what they have in young players to built the core, them supplement with all of these unproven guys around the age of 25 or so, and if one or more pops they are sitting in a good position. (Kind of like the Buxton, Kepler, Sano, Rosario, Polanco, Arraez, with the Dozier being the surprise guy older guy succeeding)
  2. IMO it isn't random ( I agree with you on the top, middle bottom) the best players in the majors are guys with obvious talent and are up at a earlier age (Not all of those succeed, but they succeed at a much higher rate then guys that come up later) , guys that come up later and do succeed for a bit usually end flaming out earlier as well. (see Plouffe, Cordova, Ford, Jones, and hundreds of other examples) then guys that come up earlier and succeed. Obviously they are exceptions to this rule, but banking your team on these exceptions IMO lead to the Twins the last 4 years. All these players were brought up at or after age 24 (Cave, Palacios, Contreras, Hamilton, Gordon, Larnach, Miranda, Julien, Wallner, Martin, Helman, Keirsey, Castillo, Gasper, Solano, Garlick, Farmer, McCusker, Clemens, Fitzgerald, Bride, France, and even Bader is on the edge) With Sabato, Schobel, Winkel, Eeles, Parto, Holland, Ross, Ortega, Rucker, Fedko, being the next hopefuls? Is it really a wonder this team can't hit consistently? on top of the guys brought up earlier have been hurt on and off, AK, Lewis, Lee, Keashall, CC, Buxton, Polanco. (Don't remember if Kepler was hurt, but the previous 3 years only played in 105, 130, 115 games. People hate that I bring up age all the time but how many of those age 24+ players have worked out, or has sustained and level of consistency for a period of time? Bader? maybe, Wallner possibly, but not really (yet, hopefully), Larnach is a OK player? With all that said these type of players can be very useful and are absolutely needed (cost wise for sure). Clemens and Bader have been useful and decent if not better but should they be guys blocking a young prospect with a higher upside? Only if they are taking a spot or up on the active roster.
  3. 100% agree with this, one should go this off season, one next trade deadline, and one the following 26 (unless Ryan will take a short extension. That would reload the farm system with high end prospects and likely possible high end flyers that can be added to the team or used to fill needs. They should offer Jenkins the Chourio contract (10 years 100 million?) and start him next year. They should already be talking to CC about 3rd base because Culpepper shouldn't be far behind Jenkins. If Festa, Matthews, SWR and others don't pan out and the Twins are still successful they could use some of their prospects and/or prospects they receive to fill the gap (kind of like the Lopez/Arraez trade). They need to stop loading the 40 man roster with back ups, Fitzgerald, Gasper, Julien, Miranda, Keirsey, McCusker, Martin, Camargo, Erod, Gillispie, Misewicz, Davis, Addams and dare I say France. That is darn need a third of their 40. (Yes, I get there needs to be a couple of spots for prospects and./or backups) But this many really?
  4. He would be the third youngest on the Twins (Lee, Keaschall, and SWR ), Only 6 Twins have a WAR above .2. So you are correct he would fit right in, other than he is a bit young for the Twins liking. I think Manzardo just needs more time in the minors and then he can put up numbers in AAA like the twins over age 25 prospects.
  5. adds about as much as you replying to me I guess or the Arko person. I brought it up because in the united states it is legally called that (at least for the time being) and thought maybe the author didn't know that. (which seems true since he replied no)
  6. It's not? I just checked google and apple. it looks like it is (at least in the United States, I believe Twins Daily is located in the United States, correct?). Isn't saying no kind of like saying the Cleveland baseball team isn't the Guardians its the Indians?
  7. Not to nitpick but Berrios had just turned 27 and Ryan just turned 29, so the team trading for Berrios would also have been thinking if we extend him we could overpay a bit more. Ryan Maybe Ryan will prove to be worth extending in his 30's but I think it is less likely to get a long term extension. For me to trade Ryan it would have to be so overwhelming that I couldn't say no, but I am trading him next year or the year after for sure, so why not start figuring out what he is worth now?
  8. I am not a big fan of this FO, but less of a fan of the people saying stand pat do nothing, the team needs to trade FA's to be and probably one of Duran or Jax (I know it would hurt) but there needs to be a bit of refresh.
  9. I think both hurt him, when and if he becomes a free agent he will be compared to other pitchers and will be paid accordingly. But you don't know if he is going to get rocked for 3 or 4 runs, well we probably do because he would have been pulled prior to that but that isn't the point. SWR isn't young nor old, but the Twins have him wrapped up for the next 5 years? so any contract talk is kind of meaningless.
  10. One stat you left off is since he was called up on 9/17/2022, The Twins have played 443 games and he has appeared in 219 and started in 189 (which is 42.6% of the games). Which statistically shows he is a part time player, which doesn't mean he is bad or is going to be bad, it means IMO he hasn't done enough to say he is one of the best hitters in the league or even started off his career as one of the best Twins ever. Also IMO he has been pretty darn good in a limited role. I am not one complaining about RBI but since he has 764 total plate appearances and you said 304 PA with runners on (39.7 %), I think coming to bat 40% of the time with runners in scoring position seems like a fairly high percentage. (But I don't know what the average player's percentage is) For comparison. Royce Lewis has appeared in 188 games (started 175) since 2022, and has 35 homers and 115 RBI and an OPS of .783. So again IMO Wallner has been slightly better than Lewis, and I don't anybody is saying Lewis is one of the better hitters in the league or started off his career as one of the best Twins ever? or maybe they have?
  11. Compared to who? I mean Lew Ford after 188 games had a WAR of 6.7, and after three years his oWar(s) .9, 3.3, 1.6 and had played 335 games. There are quite a few Twins with higher WAR or oWAR entering their 4th year. Cordova had 40 homers and 5.9 WAR (5.1 oWAR) after two years.
  12. Like Nick said he came up and hit 4 homers in 8 games, not sure that more time in AAA was needed. Something happened after that 4th homer (the second blowout in 5 games) that changed.
  13. Sure I guess if you ignore his .588 OPS against lefties and ignore that the most games in the majors he has ever played is 76 and the one season he is likely to eclipse that mark his OPS+ is 99 so far. FYI, when you say one of the best hitters in the game, the comparison becomes All Star/MVP candidates. If you said one of the best hitters in baseball against just right handed pitchers or one of the best part time players in baseball that would be more accurate. I love me some Matt Wallner and I want him to be the hitter/player you think he is, but he isn't yet and saying he is makes you and him look bad and that isn't fair to him because he has been pretty darn good.
  14. He played 6 games in AAA, with a .320/.370/.960/1.330 with 5 homers and a double and only 5 K's in 27 plate appearances. Not really sure how much more was needed to regain timing and confidence in AAA? The statement that Wallner is/was/has been one of the better hitters in the game is ludicrous and a slap in the face to whole bunch of players that are actually the better hitters in the game. He has been pretty good in a limited role for half a season the two years prior against right handed pitchers. Lets not forgot he ended 24 with a .243/.333/.405/.739 month of September. (Not terrible but not great either. July was amazing in limited playing time and August was great. His career oWAR is 4.6, 2 players have that or more just this year, 27 had that or more last year and 23 had that in 2023. I like him and hope like heck he can become a really solid major league starter.
  15. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a healthy young hot shot pitcher in the minors that we could bring up and let them try to pitch for 5 innings. Sadly........ Seem this was bound to happen and hopefully isn't a season ending injury.
  16. Duran should return a top, top prospect, he has two Arb years left and shouldn't be traded for anything less than one of baseball's top hitting prospects. Just last year the Marlins got the Padres 2 (44th overall) ,4,5 for Tanner Scott (and wasn't he a free agent after the season?
  17. The smart pitchers don't end an inning with a pitch count in the 80's, they either do it in the 70's so they can come back out or just say "f" it and run it up over 90. 🤣 There are a few pitchers managers still let go a bit longer, but they seem to be only the super stars or really good older pitchers. (Wheeler, Sale, Gausman seem like pitchers the managers are like we know what they can do, the younger guys aren't really given that chance) I have zero issue with taking Ryan out last night (Besides the fact he is on my fantasy team and it cost me points) I think Rocco said, what is the reason to keep him in, we aren't scoring anyway.
  18. How can you complain don't you know since this FO got here they are over .500, have built a pitching pipeline and have a process that can't be questioned? </s>
  19. I am pretty sure the original post wasn't complaining just asking ("Were there any questions or answers of why Joe Ryan was lifted after the 7th inning. I really like Varland and don't have an issue with it really") I don't think the response was a complaint solely based on last night, IMO is a overall complaint on the managers ability. Which IMO isn't up to the standards of a MLB manager. Hey Congrats on being over .500, since 2021 his record is 360 - 373, 2019 was great but was 5+ seasons ago, I don't give him or anybody credit for 2020 because it was a partial season and any team can play well for 60 games (You know like the Marlins, who surrounded 2020 with 105 and 95 loses.
  20. I tend to agree with you, but Wallner's struggles have now been a month, Larnach didn't have a bad month of June but it also didn't scream must play everyday. I am not sure what should be done but something has to change with Wallner, his only real success was hitting a few homers in blow out games. I guess if I was sitting in the front office I would looking to jump the trade market and try to move Larnach. Let Wallner try to figure it out and bring up somebody (really anybody not named Miranda) and give them a shot to see if they are an option for 26. At some point having a 40 man of unknowns has to change.
  21. Lots of speculation that a couple of weeks will heal his injury/discomfort or whatever it is. If the Medical staff also believes this then he should go on the DL ASAP and then a rehab assignment to get his motion are in order. If the Medical staff says that isn't going to really fix anything and it is a offseason type of fix then it comes down to two things, set him out the rest of the year or work with to figure out a way to get back closer to the way he was. I just don't see the upside of a DL stint if he isn't actually going to get better, and I see it more of a 2 week DL but ending up being a Topa/Stewart situation where we are just hoping he returns this year.
  22. I would agree with this, they had Jeremy Pena ready to go and gave him the job full time without every playing a game at AA. He was drafted (2018)sent to A and A+ in 2019, Only played in the fall league in 2020, Triple AAA in 21 (plus fall league), Give the starting short stop by in 22. He hit well in the minors but until this year most if not all of his value has been on the defensive side of the ball. Which is why if Culpepper is the solution for the Twins he needs to be up this year for taste and/or just given the job next year. Players we hope are future full time players shouldn't needs so much time in the minors. IMO guys that need that time may flash and have short term success but generally it doesn't last.
  23. Cody's articles are getting harder and harder to read, any valid point(s) he makes is over shadowed by inserting his political view and thus dis-railing the conversation. I am going to go with the George Bush quote (paraphrasing) Cody fool me once, I won't get fooled again. If he is the author of the article I will skip it because why bother writing a baseball article if it is just going to turn into a political spat. Hey maybe that is the only way he can get comments on his articles?
