    1. End affiliate agreements between major and minor league teams. Replace the existing minor league development plan with team academies. 2. Implement a German Bundesliga-style 50-plus-one rule, meaning at least 51 percent of each team must be owned by fans/the city the team calls home. 3. Dissolve the American and National Leagues, the divisions within, and the playoffs. The team that finishes the season at the top of the league is the winner. 4. End the DH. 5. Implement promotion and relegation. If the Pirates and Royals don't want to field a competitive major league team, they can play the next season in AAA. If the Saint Paul Saints win AAA, they become a major league team the next year. 6. Implement the Trevor Bauer Rule. If you are credibly charged with a crime, you're suspended without pay for the year. If you get convicted, you're suspended for good. 7. End the draft. Disallow signing players while they're actively in high school or college, but (when eligible) do allow them to sign with the team of their choosing instead of having to wait until free agency. 8. Implement a five year maximum contract length. 9. Each team in the league plays one series against each opponent in the league at their home stadium, and one series against each opponent in the opponent's home stadium. Games are only held Friday-Sunday. Saturday and Sunday games are always day games.

    Normally I'd agree with your second statement, but in this case we have an employee who has 1) intentionally and very negatively impacted the physical health of his coworkers because of his opinion and 2) now taken to publicly spread disinformation about a public health emergency that has already killed roughly 1 in 500 Americans. If he was publicly saying something like "I think you should vote for person X because I agree with their unpopular policy proposals" or "I do drug Y and I think you should too" then that's one thing. But we're talking about something that can kill the people that listen to and/or work with him.

    Baseball Reference says they were a game over .500 in August last year and won at a .667 clip in September (24 games) of last year. They scored 119 runs with 112 against in August, compared to 110 for and 80 against in September. I know that 2020 was a weird year, but I don't recall September occurring before August. Seems like you might be misremembering a little bit.

    If Jack Morris were on my pitching staff and he tried to undercut my pitching coach like this, he'd meet the same fate that Shoemaker did.

    He's been league average, at best, for like 5 years now. He's also in his mid 30s and very likely beginning the steep decline phase of his career. But sure, it's the Twins coaching and analytics that have screwed him up. If it wouldn't almost certainly bork our standing with all free agents for the foreseeable future, I'd absolutely call his bluff and give him a start or two to pitch however he wants for as long as he wants against the White Sox, Yankees, etc. Put up or shut up, old man.

    I voted no, but only because I think that's a pretty massive overpay from the Twins' side. As long as there are other serious bidders for Berrios (especially if those bidders include the Dodgers and/or Giants), I think he could probably get most if not all of that package by himself. And on top of that, I'm firmly in the "make the [redacted] incentives work and sign him already!" camp on Buxton.

    Buxton's latest comments make me think they're not so far away from striking a deal with him. No way does he take this tone if the Twins are massively low-balling him. As for Berrios...well, I don't think he has any intention of re-signing. The FO needs to do the rational thing and deal him, I think.

    It is exactly the same, in that leadership needs to make rational decisions about the resources at its disposal and the value of its assets. I'm not saying that the FO shouldn't make every reasonable effort to re-sign the two players. They totally should. But just like the management at your office job, they shouldn't throw all the money at one or two projects and let the rest of the organization die on the vine.

    No, they shouldn't be fired if either player isn't resigned and the question is so stupid it actually hurts. Firing the FO because one or both refuse to sign is like firing your boss because you decide not to go to work anymore.

    None of these deals are remotely pitching-heavy enough, and the pitchers involved are generally not going to move the needle nearly enough.

    There's no question that Buxton is the better player. If he could stay healthy, the debate would be between Buck and Trout.

    I would not touch this deal. If I'm sending Berrios anywhere other than Toronto (I really want Pearson and SWR), then I'm offering him with Kepler to the Padres, telling them we'll take Myers, and asking them to fill in the rest of the trade with at least one of Abrams and Gore and a handful of lottery picks.

    We don't have much at the major league level to show for the pitching development infrastructure that Falvey and Levine and put in place yet, but we do have more legitimate pitching prospects in A+ or higher this year than TR had in all of his last ten years combined. It's really easy, I think, to forget how absolutely pathetic our pitcher development program was before Falvey and Levine showed up, and how very little they had to work with on day one from a coaching and tooling perspective. We have to remember to play the long game with our pitching pipeline. If you ask this question again this time next year, I think it's pretty likely that we'll be able to point to at least several of Winder, Alcala, Duran, Barnes, Sands, Balazovic, Ober, Jax, and Colina. If Canterino comes back relatively soon, or if Enlow's return from TJS goes according to plan, we'll probably be able to point to them as headed toward league average or better in the near future, too. Perhaps Hajjer and/or Macleod (assuming they both sign), as well.

    Charlie Barnes is probably the next in line, but Josh Winder is likely the next one that will really be impactful (not to dismiss Barnes, I think he's probably a #4 guy for a good long while; Winder is a guy who I think could make us all quickly feel better about trading Berrios).
