  1. Good read. This type of article makes me think of the clamoring for outside voices. I think that can be overstated. To me it can be just as effective to empower new people. Molitor is a great example of this. He could take over as manager and it wouldn't be from the outside but clearly he would have a different way of going about his business.
  2. Great memories of Tony Fiore.
  3. Did anyone listen to Talking Twins this morning with Terry Ryan? May is going to be up pretty soon. Innings issues coming off the injury that have been talked about endlessly. He was a little more slippery with Meyer, but seemed more open to it than I thought he might be.
  4. I wish the Twins would stop waiting and push the magical "win" button that other rebuilding teams like Houston and the Cubs have already utilized.
  5. I think the Twins pretty much got paid for what teams do expect Morales to do going forward. And while Suzuki is good, he is not elite right now when considering defense. But he would still bring back a decent prospect or two.
  6. I don't think they would have gotten anything for a sub .600 OPS DH. Salary relief struck me as a miracle. Peavy is not great, but he still has value, especially to a NL team. I just don't see the comparison here.
  7. This is the key sentence.
  8. Clean out the vets and play the younger guys seems obvious. This year is actually a little different than the last couple because they have vets in the last year of deals with some value and some players in AAA that can actually replace them. Here is the 25 I would roll out on Aug 1: Pinto Herrmann Fryer Colabello Parmelee Dozier Santana Escobar Nunez Plouffe Arcia Fuld Mauer back soon, Hicks, Vargas, Polanco Sept guys SP: Hughes Gibson Johnson May Meyer LH: Darnell Thielbar Perkins RH: Deduno Swarzak Pressly Tonkin Pino Nolasco back whenever, Pryor as potential Sept guy 13 man staff to protect young starters OF is ugly
  9. I also agree it is time - it was time two years ago. I also agree that Gardy is not a bad manager, and if he wants to manage again I suspect he would find a job in the next two years (possibly the Mets?). There is a time when a change in leadership is necessary, there is a reason so few managers make it on one team for over a decade. People will kill him for his playoff record, and perhaps justifiably so, but he had a really good for a decade. I wouldn't be opposed to cleaning out the whole staff, but turning over half would still be acceptable to me. I'm not sure Cuellar, Steinbach, Bruno, Molitor really need to go, they've only been here two years.
  10. Tyler Duffey is a legit prospect, really emerged this year. BA is all over him as a sleeper as well. I can't remember exactly what they said, but maybe added a pitch or really refined one.
  11. I imagine they are quite aware they aren't meeting their goals.
  12. I'm mildly surprised Correia wasn't DFAed last night. He serves no purpose anymore and trade value isn't changing. I figured they would want to call up another reliever.
  13. Could even add Adam Brett Walker.
  14. Would you rather they DFA him instead? That is the value of Morales right now.
  15. I agree, but I think it would be an interesting comparison if one of us went and watched him. We would know who he is, be aware of his high draft status, but probably not think to much of him (at this point).
  16. Mlbtraderumors just said St. Louis is close on AJ. On one hand you can get mad at Ryan for not acting sooner. On the other the reality is the Cardinals probably weren't going to give up anything of substance.
  17. Define "everyone". But yes, very uninspired. My personal opinion is the unexpected injury to Gibson and rain shortened May start scrambled them a little this weekend and may have changed plans. I expect something different coming out of the day off, but probably shouldn't hold my breath.
  18. He was picked up for free on the waiver wire a couple of months ago. I would say no.
  19. The Twins are about to shed about $10 mil in salary for the rest of the year. That could be a down payment right?
  20. I think they go big. Correia, Willingham, Suzuki and at least one bullpen arm (likely Duensing) go before August 1. Not sure of the order. Burton goes in August. Keep Fien. I don't share the optimism that Willingham and Correia would clear waivers. Their contracts are small enough.
  21. I generally agree, but I wonder if the new slot rules are limiting the number of high school guys that are willing to sign, especially guys with high ceilings. If the Twins (rightly or wrongly) are committed to taking Gordon and it costs full slot to sign, it does limit what they can do later on for high school guys. Doesn't mean they have to take 7 straight college relievers, but I don't think it is quite as simple as "take more high school guys".
  22. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/prospect-watch-nick-gordon-and-post-draft-expectations/ Interesting read. Some mention of some Appy pitchers and Max Murphy as well. I personally think you gain very little from scouting same year high school guys in rookie leagues - especially everyday guys.
  23. The new changes suck. Bring back the old way.
