  1. I thoroughly enjoy Tom Hamilton audio clips on crazy plays.
  2. I would say 0% this year, but he could be up a lot quicker next year than I would have thought even 2 weeks ago.
  3. I would say Hughes and Suzuki would make the Twins one of the bigger free agent winners.
  4. Pryor was probably going to be the guy Seattle DFAed to make room for Morales but I say it is a worthwhile flyer, maybe give him some time in September.
  5. Pryor has a strange injury but seems worthwhile to take a flyer on. Not sure what else the Twins could have expected to get. I'm not even offended by more of a salary dump, just happy to be clearing some 25 man spots.
  6. It was mentioned in another thread, but thought the news deserved its own post. Brice Zimmerman‏@ZimMiracleBefore heading out on four-game trip to Tampa, Miracle have a few roster moves. Levi Michael comes over from GCL. Jorge Polanco to AA. Should have been a couple of weeks earlier. Just another example of the Twins waiting too long on their promotions.
  7. Last 5 starts: 30 ip, 18 h, 5 r, 32 k, 13 bb Hard to argue too much with that.
  8. I still think the debate is all about Meyer. I strongly believe May would be up if he didn't get hurt. Pino got the spot start because of the urgency/timing of the need, did well so he got the second start. Before Pino's third start May got hurt. May still needs another start or two before he is up to get the pitch count. If May is not up by next Saturday (within 5 days of the off day Monday) then in my mind there will finally be validity to these complaints.
  9. Colorado really collapsed. Wow.
  10. Maybe the better response is that you were asking the wrong questions.
  11. How many innings before fip and era normalize?
  12. You call it a dodge, I call it reality. You are overstating a trend based on actions of the last year. I don't think Meyer is being held down because of inability to throw strikes. Fastball command and sharpening his change up. I also suspect innings concerns are playing a part.
  13. I say sample size issue with recency bias.
  14. Should be an interesting 8 days. Lots of vets with no future and plenty of guys (particularly arms) in AAA that are ready for a shot.
  15. I don't believe the run values attributed to pitch framing (or defense or base running for the most part). I accept it as a snapshot of current rankings, but I'm not especially convinced on how it is converted into runs, especially in small sample sizes. And when I said the Twins I was more thinking front office than the field staff. I don't really consider anything said by the field staff as that meaningful in the big picture.
  16. Yes. Whatever the normal slot would be for that pick.
  17. I have a crazy thought - what if the Twins actually take pitch framing statistics seriously? In the past year they have traded Doumit, bounced Pinto to AAA and are not going to overpay Suzuki on an extension. While they did sign Suzuki, he has been one of the few FA Cs that signed last offseason to make it this far with the same team, and by far the best value.
  18. I have a good theory on why May hasn't pitched for the Twins in the past month...
  19. Of the many issues with this team, real and imagined, international scouting is very low on the list. Tying up 30% of your payroll on hitters with no positional value for that length of time doesn't strike me as a prudent use of resources.
  20. If people knew he would hit this well I suspect he would have signed for significantly more. EDIT: And I'll repeat my question - can you think of one franchise that has locked up a 1b and dh combo for that much money and that many years? It would have been 5 years at around $35 combined per.
  21. I agree!
  22. I thought that was assumed.
  23. On this we agree. The Twins are making decisions regarding Meyer based completely on what is beneficial for him and his long term development, not based upon fanciful notions that they might compete this year. Maybe that is the difference between Terry Ryan knowing and having confidence in who he is and Anthopolous making a move to try and save his job?
  24. Apparently going to work out of the pen. If the Twins were desperately trying to hold on to being competitive Meyer would be up in the pen too. They have wisely determined they aren't going to make it this year.
  25. I certainly think the Twins should call up Meyer before the end of the year. I also think that if the Twins were competitive right now he would already be up in the pen. Since they are not, they have the luxury of patience to give him time to develop. That has always been my point. I don't think Garza should have been up in 2006 and I imagine the Twins wished they weren't so desperate that they had to call him up like they did. I'm not saying for certain it impacted Garza, but it might have.
