  1. This is the common defense, but splitting a great player into complementary pieces just generally doesn't work too well. I think the Rays get a similar return in the offseason, that would be my complaint.
  2. Just going to say the same thing, got it off mlbtraderumors. Doing something like that just seems like a whole lot of work for such a brief payoff.
  3. LEN3 update: http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/blogs/269407811.html Key graph:
  4. That wasn't necessarily a response to you, it was a legitimate question. I don't know the rule involving the 10 day period and trades. I know with an injury you can bring a guy back up, not sure on trades.
  5. Also, and correct if I'm wrong, but the 10 day period is waived in case of a trade (in addition to injury and the expanded rosters in September).
  6. The beat readers made it seem like this is pretty permanent, barring terrible results by Vargas.
  7. Isn't this being prudent? There are minimal external options, they probably have a price they are willing to pay, and if Suzuki doesn't take it they will probably unload for something in return. I think we all agree that if the deadline passes and there is no extension or no trade, that would be a poor outcome for the Twins.
  8. I agree. I also think the return for Duensing is very light.
  9. Karabell is a fantasy guy. People in national media who say this about Pinto haven't seen him play. I'm not against it, but it sets the team up for a huge hole next year if Pinto can't catch.
  10. He can't do a qualifying offer for a player traded mid-season. This is a pure rental.
  11. The Twins still need a catcher going forward, external options for next year aren't great. If Pinto is legit he'll get his time. Unless you have great hope in Herrmann or Fryer.
  12. If the Suzuki rumors are true, Willy and Duensing are the only two options in my mind.
  13. I would be pretty surprised if Meyer makes a start this year in Minnesota. Do expect him out of the bullpen in September (or perhaps earlier). May will get his audition soon enough. This is not to say they won't be on the opening day roster, but that won't be Plan A (or probably B or C) going into spring training.
  14. This is probably exactly what it is. His value was not as high as he might have thought, the Twins said take our reasonable two year extension now and let's move on. With the FA options out there and limited return (according to rumors), I don't have a huge problem with it.
  15. Both Meyer and May wouldn't start the season in the rotation even if they hadn't gotten Milone. What this probably means is they probably won't go after a starter in free agency like I hoped they would.
  16. I suspect you have not read their write ups for his trades. BA isn't crazy, they know a big part of farm systems is for trades.
  17. Why does Baseball America hate him?
  18. Posts like this make message boards worth it. A perfectly valid criticism taken to nonsensical hyperbole.
  19. Acquiring better players is a great solution. We can all get behind that!
  20. Like almost every year, very hard to find CF, SS or C in free agency of any value.
  21. So the Pohlads can pocket more money?
  22. This is correct on May. They aren't going to have him debut on a short pitch count. He will be up after that.
  23. Good to see one of our assets doing well going into the deadline. With the shortage of bats he should bring back more than salary relief.
  24. The only numbers worse are ERA and bb walk, otherwise Masterson is a lot better than Correia this year with a significantly better track record in the past. Though I do think this meant Correia might have had a little bit of value before his implosion the last two starts.
