  1. I also think Gardy is gone, will be more of a mutual thing than a straight firing. Will be Molitor or outside the organization - I like the Dave Martinez idea personally.
  2. A coach treats certain players different from others? Perish the thought! The criticism of Gardy mistreating young players is so lame and so blind to what happens around the league. Someone mentioned he called out Danny Valencia. He was right! And also, who cares? It's Danny Bleepin' Valencia. This may be somewhat of a surprise, but coaches are generally most critical of players who they think can still improve. That would generally be younger players.
  3. I think we have had this debate before - but how is it irrelevant that the Twins signed the guy who stayed healthy and actually made his starts and pitched at a slightly above replacement level? How is that not part of the analysis in deciding who to sign? It would be disappointing going forward, now that the Twins have 3 guys who should be #3 type pitchers in the rotation for next year, for them to sign a guy like Correia. Bit considering the ugly state of pitching in the organization going into 2013 it made some sense to have a guy like Corrria, especially considering the alternatives at the time. The best part about Correia is he helped bridge these two years and now the Twins can move on.
  4. Any predictions on his stat line? I'm going 5.1 IP 7 h 4 r/er 3 bb 4 k
  5. For all the angst and complaining the Twins called up May right on the schedule that made sense considering his injury and rain out. Pretty much exactly as they said.
  6. Because of innings it would be highly unlikely Meyer would start in the rotation no matter what the Twins did between now and the end of the season. And while your first sentence sounds ominous it is not based in any fact. Contracts for Pelfrey and Morales mean nothing for the future contracts of Meyer, nor does actions 6-7 years before his free agency. Boras isn't an idiot. Of course he would answer a question from a beat writer that way, but knows full well why the Twins are acting in the way they are. It won't impact a future extension.
  7. It is time to move on from Correia one way or another. If he pitches decent today and still no takers there won't be any takers. Perhaps keep him until Nolasco was back but after that release him and move on. Made some sense to keep him until everything was in place with other options. The options are now in place, healthy, and on schedule.
  8. Correia will be gone when Nolasco is back. Or at least that is what the Twins should do. Deduno starting would be a stunner in my mind.
  9. Milone Sunday, Hughes gets the extra day.
  10. Don't get me wrong, Dick and Bert are a pretty big part of the reason why I rarely watch the Twins on TV. I would have have no problem with pretty much any complaint levied against them and would love them being replaced. But our esteemed founder aside, the thought of the KFAN morning crew announcing baseball makes me chuckle. But I also like Gladden as an announcer, so take that for what it's worth.
  11. He will - assuming he doesn't completely fall on his face in Rochester.
  12. Wait, are you saying you want the KFAN morning crew, or that Dick and Bert are so bad that even the KFAN crew would sound good?
  13. I'm also waiting for them to wave the "get good" wand. What is Terry Ryan waiting for? But I do think they will play the one card they have and bring in a new manager after the season, but not sure how much that decision is based on declining TV ratings.
  14. I"m surprised that it hasn't fallen more. I also think people giving up cable/satellite is a pretty big issue. Twins Cities has one of the lowest subscription rates in the country and I think it will continue to drop. That is why I don't watch, but I certainly go to games, follow on mlb.com, and listen on the radio.
  15. I agree, but slow call ups don't have much to do with the work in building up depth throughout. May should make his next start in the bigs. Meyer should get a taste in the pen.
  16. And even decent numbers should get him back to the Twins in September.
  17. This is the key to me. Terry Ryan has really rebuilt the depth up and down the system, should pay dividends for years.
  18. For a pitcher that had a higher salary. I would say the Lawton trade is proof he might do it more than proof he wouldn't.
  19. Great post. I appreciate these thoughts, this makes sense.
  20. I'm a stubborn skeptic on this, but I try to respond to answers and dig more.
  21. Thanks for the write up, good stuff.
  22. I certainly don't dispute this, and like you said, he doesn't talk about it so it is impossible for us to know exactly what is happening in pre game preparation. My question from this article is still - does a player having knowledge of advanced stats result in him performing better? I'm still skeptical.
  23. But do these stats actually help a player with process? When I think of pitching, I would say: Desired Outcomes = maximize outs, minimize runs Desired Goals = maximize strikeouts, ground balls, minimize walks, home runs Process = Preparation to pitch (work outs, bullpens, etc), scouting of opponent/game plan (scouting reports, pitch f/x data, understanding of location, game situations, etc), proper utilization (pitching roles) I'm just thinking of how this specific knowledge fits in. I can see for confidence reasons and I suppose that specific personality types would eat it up more than others, but I hardly see it as necessary for most players.
  24. See my previous response. I am a little concerned that it is not more in house, makes me a little concerned about the actual scouting reports that are prepared for upcoming opponents. In the first part - the goal is get outs and not allow runs, and the process is by limited walks and home runs, while maximizing ks and ground balls (to an extent). Again, I think it makes tangible what is intuitive, so it is definitely interesting and important for analyzing players for contracts, roster spots, etc., but I'm still curious what it actually means for specific players.
