  1. I would say: Hicks in September Parmelee gets at bats, but I certainly agree he is probably not part of the future, but the last 50 games can be the final data point I like the idea of Plouffe getting some time in LF, allows Escobar to slide to 3B with Nunez and gets Santana his needed reps at SS No chance Buxton is up Twins will sign a veteran corner bat. Could see Hunter if he is interested and lacks other options. Not sure there are better options. Would be interested to see if they would consider moving Mauer to LF, but not sure Vargas and Pinto have forced that move just yet.
  2. I think it was the start of the transition, but the injuries to Buxton and Sano will string it out a little longer than would have been hoped in a best case scenario situation. Bringing in Meyer, Sano, Buxton next year will be a serious talent infusion and hopefully combine with continued development for the other young guys that have broken in the past two seasons. They could have something going by the end of next year and potentially look bright heading into 2016.
  3. The plus side is that there are few places to put decline phase vets going into next year. They will probably sign a corner OF, but that is probably out of necessity. If they sign a SP I suspect they will go big, and they might take a flyer or two on a RP but nothing that should be all that big of a problem going forward.
  4. I'm sure there will be plenty.
  5. Some speculation from John Manuel that he may have been promoted for Arizona Fall League purposes. There is a limit to the amount of guys that can play from levels lower than AA. That, and probably giving Buxton something to really build upon going into next year.
  6. They didn't have the kids ready to make such moves possible last year. Timing was finally right and depth was there to start moving on from the veterans. I still think it is quite underrated how well Ryan has rebuilt the depth of the organization and these recent moves are the fruit of that. They can start being more strategic rather than constantly scrambling just to field a representative team. Obviously not there yet but moving in the right direction.
  7. I would assume Hicks is up as soon as Rochester is out of the playoffs.
  8. Well, he does have an OPS below .700 and strikes out about 30% of his plate appearances. It is probably accurate to say he isn't playing well this season. He's about Arcia with a few more walks and less power.
  9. So you would have preferred worse pitchers? Or no pitchers? Poor decisions before that offseason clearly put the franchise in a terrible position and Ryan did about the best he could with what he had to work with.
  10. Fair enough. I just don't see much of a difference in practical terms. But I also don't take statements by front office people all that seriously.
  11. Good luck getting this point to stick. People will always criticize Ryan for not signing pitchers who didn't exist. It was Grienke or Sanchez, whose contract is looking worse with each injury (as expected). And expecting the Twins to outbid the Dodgers always struck me as a little unrealistic.
  12. Well yes and no. 7 walks in 2 innings is a problem no matter who the manager is. But I suspect they'll clean the slate and give him a fresh start.
  13. I think they ax Deduno over sending Pino back down. Maybe a Duensing trade?
  14. We disagree on the extent of the rot for sure. I'm curious what a managerial change would do. A winning culture has been rebuilt throughout the minors, but needs to come to the majors obviously. I also think you are referencing the wrong Pohlad. And I'm not sure why you are critical of St. Peter for doing his job well. I suspect he cares about winning, but his job is the business side, as in maximizing revenues and making the best fan experience possible. Which is my point, not sure why you would want Maddon overseeing that part of a franchise. And are we sure he is any better than Gardy circa 2006, just with a better pitching staff?
  15. I suspect Gardy will leave more on his own. It will be a mutual parting, not a firing. He is a good manager and will have another job if he wants it, but it is time for a change.
  16. Why would you waste Joe Maddon's skillset in that position?
  17. People need to stop being paranoid. They are not going to send May back after one game. The Twins are slow to promote but they are also slow to change plans and cut cords. They prepared May for the long haul. Only way he doesn't finish the season is injury or if he completely bombs for multiple starts.
  18. He does need to be added. 40 man issue is not what's keeping him down.
  19. I'm just side action.
  20. I don't think it would have been possible for Selig to go hard at steroids and still maintain labor peace and revenues at the same level. I'm probably not the best person to reflect on this though, steroids never bothered me all that much. That is probably one reason I won't be as negative towards Selig as others.
  21. I agree Chief he was a very successful commissioner. Revenues are massive, attendance is strong, mlb is among the best in new media and many other positives. This doesn't happen by accident. He is an easy punching bag for steroids but that issue goes far behind him and mlb does better than any other sport.
  22. People argue that Gardy treats everyone exactly the same? I only see people argue he doesn't treat young players poorly. Which is true.
  23. But Pino was the spot start. And pitched well enough to get a second.
  24. The Future's Game is a red herring. It wouldn't have stopped a promotion if he didn't get hurt. As for the other point I disagree. There was no need for a call up before Pino and that ended up being a scramble and May couldn't be called up because he just pitched. Pino pitched well so he got a second start and May was hurt. I absolutely believe they were setting him up to start then and the timing bears that out.
