    The Minnesota Twins could aquire Vladdy Guerrero Jr. today and it won't prove this. Nor do I even think a move that monumental increases attendance much. I think people holding on to the hope that "buying" is going to change that are forgetting how deep the scars run. These moves won't hurt, it's not a reason to not do them....but there is going to have to be a sustained and lengthy investment, coupled with a more clear-cut winning model built, before those scars start to heal.

    Mike, I have great news for you and all of Twinsdaily! The Twins are "buyers" today!!!! Tom Pohlad bought a fresh tank of gas this morning! And Wanda, from accounting of course, got herself a delicious Caribou Coffee. It was just like making one from home...only better! We've done it folks. We're "buyers"! *Hold for legalise* Ignore that any basic, kindergarten level of applied thinking could poke holes in my argument. Rest assured if anyone does I'm going to act like a giant jacka$$ with no reprecussions from any of my buddies on the mod team. *End Legalise* We're "buyers"!!!!!

    I don't think Culpepper and Houston play the same position. Not in terms of what the Twins need to think. Houston is the future SS. Frankly, I'd rather they just get Culpepper used to 2B right now.

    I, for one, interpreted your point about players "with control" to be those that could be mindlessly enslaved and would like an apology and an explanation for why you changed your mind. My only regret is that I merely hold the second most ridiculous interpretation you are demanded to be accountable for today. I thought I was a shoe-in for the top spot.

    His numbers in terms missing bats are still pretty good, he's just walking too many people. I'm not sure I like this deal, but it would've been one I signed up for in the offseason.

    There are reasons to believe he's not as bad as he looks. Baseball Savant has his xERA significantly below his actual ERA. I know he's been brought in to be a starter but his real path is probably as a converted starter to see if he can get more out of himself in the bullpen. If he's a starter for this team down the stretch I don't see how this furthers their aims. Plus the cost seems high relative to the production. This is the kind of deal I'd have felt better about in a "sell" framework where we take a chance on a depressed asset.

    I want to believe we have some kind of diabolical plan to horde catching assets for trade. Like Moneyball but for the short, pudgy dudes behind the plate.

    It's good value. I'm more disappointed in how Amick has progressed as a 2nd round pick than I am in moving him for a rental.

    After checking in on the game in the middle of the 9th I thought the email I got for a "WALK-offer" from the Twins later was a marketing error. Pretty unlikely and fun way to end that game.

    Thank you. I hope that wasn't the reason for either Jenkins or Culpepper. I just prefer the SS of the two.

    I could be wrong, but aren't we past the point where there is a distinction between now and, say, April of next year?

    There is a lot of potential regression built into that "best offense" ranking.

    I stand by the idea that you deal Jeffers to New York for something like Ben Hess and a Brandon Beck. Two near ready arms one of which is a for sure RP guy if he has any future (Beck) and another who could be a good candidate. Might be too rich for NYY but start there.

    I'd like to know their reasons but I can't fault the Twins for being patient. His numbers are pretty good in AAA but they don't scream "what is this guy still doing there?" I see that much more with Culpepper. (I know his OPS trails Jenkins, but what he's doing as a SS, his age, etc makes him the more obvious call-up)

    One thing I find odd is that you don't even have to get into advanced analytics to see the problems. Like...rudimentary, old-school markers are screaming red flags. Bad run diff. Third place in their division. Never above .500. Top player is hurt and second best player might have a dead arm. Eye test says these guys continue to play defense like they're allergic to leather. Hopefully if they invest they do so wisely with payoffs. I'm not holding my breath.

    I applaud the Twins for not calling up Jenkins if he isn't ready. His call-up should entirely depend on what is best for his long-term career. Full stop.

    I really wish some folks would read that part again. It should be eye-opening about our reality. If the team makes the decision the other way I hope it pays off and we don't look back and wonder what the hell we were smoking with all the red flags that surround this group.

    Not the worst start for Ryan but the low ks and the overall performance are a bit alarming that his arm isn't going to be able to make it through the rest of the season.

    I'm super happy for Royce Lewis. The kid feels like he needs a few of those.

    I'll wait to fully judge until I see him but we shouldn't pretend that Culpepper has been rumored to not be a long-term, good glove at SS. Neto is a very good defensive SS. It's not like 2B has some rockstar there. Dealing Culpepper for Neto and Detmers? Please god no.

    Woof....yeah. That offer blows. That many carve-outs is just heinously greedy.

    I'm glad you're enjoying the season. I don't think the best interests of the team are to waste potential trade assets on a low upside season. That's just where we differ.
