  1. Beane can find a newer, younger Willingham at a far cheaper price. You want a name that might entice them? Travis Harrison - fits their mold of player so far. Might be enough to get it done too.
  2. I think the perception comes from their historic inability to strike people out and the fact that they are far and away the leaders in that. It's reasonable to conclude that some sort of strategy was at work to be THAT bad.
  3. Feels way better now, for whatever reason.
  4. I can't believe Anderson was comped to Nolasco, he's got a MUCH higher ceiling. But he's got a ton of risk associated with him.
  5. I'd love it, but I doubt his personality will mesh well with the Twins way of doing things.
  6. I'm reasonably sure that mess of "meh" will make him smile. But more in the "you gotta be kidding me with this" kind of way. Ask yourself what Ryan would say if someone offered aging garbage like that for Dozier. And Dozier is significantly less valuable than Franklin. (a top prospect coming off a solid debut)
  7. No disdain, just Ellsbury's isn't an elite player. A good one, no doubt, but not elite. Cano is elite.
  8. Well, that makes two of us Mr. Doumit.
  9. I'd rather have an elite 2B at this price than a speed dependent CF at Ellsbury's price personally.
  10. Nick Franklin wouldn't be a backup, he'd be our starting SS hands down. Talk is he's the centerpiece of a Price trade.
  11. Just to add a bit more, a few weeks back when you made the changes it was gloriously fast. For whatever reason this week it regressed for me. It's not every time which is reminiscent of when the rollover ads were crushing me.
  12. I want to check that it's just me....but is the site slow for anyone else the last few days? I think some of the ads are slaughtering my flash and it's causing some pages to really drag. I've had flash player crash multiple times in Chrome for me.
  13. I would call it trolling personally. As for Ryan, I'm sure they didn't talk personally because the Twins came after him hard through his agent, he liked the fit, and there was no reason to talk personally. Both sides wanted it done so the business side of things completed the deal. So I'm not sure I find it that odd or an indictment of Ryan, it just shows what an aggressive approach that exceeds the competition (in this case, in our willingness to go three years) really does trump all that other stuff.
  14. This will probably be a lot of teeth gnashing over nothing, but it's just disappointing that a player who is still so young is being given up on in favor of guys far less likely to be part of the long-term plan. He's the kind of guy they need to keep giving a chance until the other young guys supplant him.
  15. You'd think this press conference would be about as unnerving as your average clubhouse media pile in New York. Strange.
  16. I really hope he clears waivers. I'd much rather have dumped Johnson, but this strikes me as a move of frustration by the Twins. I think they've just run out of ways to try and get him to translate his minor league success to the bigs.
  17. People seem to be missing the point. The future is certainly bright offensively, but the 2014 offense looks pretty god awful at this point. I don't see anything I want Ryan to do now about that, just bracing for the ugliness.
  18. Yup this is very realistic and fair. Ryan did all you could hope for. This also puts to rest a lot of silly justifications that were thrown around for last years failures. We at least have some stability now to bring up younger starters to complement. And, most importantly, Ryan has finally shown a penchant for opening up the payroll for significant signings. That's two huge wins right there.
  19. I would suggest that people who think internal improvements from poor seasons last year might want to consider a few things: 1). The team's biggest regression candidate plays second base and lead the team in HR. 2). Hammer's issues were injuries, there is plenty of reason to expect those issues continue. 3) Our gain at 1b is probably offset and more by our loss at catcher. Longterm the offense has great potential but next year could be really ugly if even one or two things happen from that list. It's more than enough to offset anything Arcia or others could do to improve.
  20. Sounds like one of Ryan's patented savvy bullpen pickups. There does appear to be some good trade value to relievers this offseason.
  21. Plouffe/Parms would be an excellent platoon. Plus it would force Arcia to DH - where he belongs.
  22. I've been on the speed thing for awhile, but (for whatever reason) Gardys teams have always stifled their players use of speed. my guess is our lineup is this out of ST: CF - Pressly 2B - Dozier 1B - Mauer LF - Willingham DH - Doumit RF - Arcia 3B - Plouffe C - Pinto SS - Florimon And that is very discouraging. Hopefully by July we see Hicks and Sano productive and a part but right now that is a bad lineup.
  23. Isn't the dumbest part of this that they are balking at Cano's price (33% more) and turned around and handed this out? If you're going to splurge and overpay, why not do it for an actual elite talent?
  24. Fine by me. We aren't contending next year anyway, might as well gamble and try and see if he can find all that offensive potential he showed as recently as the last two years. He was awful in 2013, but his two previous years were solid. Worst case....you cut him and go back to Hermann or Fryer anyway.
  25. Right, I'm sure some Oriole fans trashed Davis at the time of the trade too. Arencibia has some awful warts, but if you look past that at his recent hype, minor league numbers, etc. - there are plenty of reason to take a gamble.
