  1. Yeah, how can anyone sign a contract with them and have any confidence it was made in good faith?
  2. The beat, warpath, braves, broken english, wump em - it's all one big cartoonish portrayl. We thought Africans so physically impressive we enslaved them and worked them to death. Want to rename any teams the "Negros"? Your position is getting less and less rational with every post. Not at all. Financial windfalls shouldn't even be a consideration. It's insulting and shows just how trivial you treat the issue that you equate human dignity with price tags.
  3. I imagine picking up Gregorson and Johnson today probably limits how much bullpen help they need anymore.
  4. To get Headley for Plouffe, the prospect would probably have to be someone like Rosario. So, no thanks.
  5. His nickname is very clearly going to be Scozy.
  6. Oakland also acquired a pretty solid reliever in Gregerson today, so probably part of a strategy that is a bit new to them.
  7. Plouffe needs to be in a platoon, that's his future.
  8. Buy low candidates are buy-low for a reason, but you have to look for the hints of a diamond in tht rough. He had a lot of pedigree and was hhighly thought of as recently as last ST. These kinds of moves can come at a low cost and reap high rewards.
  9. My problem is with plan B. We heard the same about Hicks and you can recall the disaster that was our CF situation last year I'm sure.
  10. Ray screams out as a future failed starter turned decent reliever. And that's the centerpiece for an affordable cost controlled, very good pitcher? Yeah, no spinning that one.
  11. well, at least we've put a price tag on respect then I suppose.
  12. If you think the only issue with that song is "scalp" then you need to brush up on your Native American stereotypes. It's rife with more. Its ample evidence of the utter indifference to mockery the whole concept is. We should want to be better than that.
  13. This used to be their theme song: Hail to the Redskins! Hail, victory! Braves on the warpath! Fight for Old D.C.! Scalp 'em, swamp 'um We will take 'um big score Read 'um, Weep 'um, touchdown We want heap more Fight on, fight on, till you have won Sons of Washington Rah! Rah! Rah! Do we really still need to discuss whether the name was rooted in racism and a lack of empathy for mocking Native Americans?
  14. Man, that's a good deal for Washington.
  15. Then there are a lot of responses here. There was also a thread in the General Baseball thread on this subject as well. I'd link but not able to do so conveniently at the moment.
  16. Straight pull hitter from the right side, former top talent, decent backstop. Yeah, sign me up.
  17. There is a whole thread telling you how people feel, many of those posts quite effectively derail the ideas you posted.
  18. Even if fans don't see the upside, they should at least appreciate the increase in effort.
  19. Another problem with the move was what it represented - the same tired philosophy to FA. It was fine value, but not a commendable signing.
  20. So you're citing having the 5th pick as an accomplishment? Hell, 25 of us posters could have accomplished more than that if given some uniforms. We'd make sure it was the first!
  21. When you factor in that the team out-performed their pyath. by a decent margin....even with these additions we're still in the neighborhood of 75, probably on the lower end.
  22. His splits indicate he'd make a terrible loogy.
  23. Man I wish popular musicians today were as annoying as Bolton. Your average Katy Perry song makes me want to hurt small fluffy things.
  24. So I'm trying to think what the most obvious moves to keep the 40 man freed up would be. Is it to deal Correia and take Johnson off? I can't imagine the Twins abandoning Diamond, Worley, or Deduno - all three will have to make the staff or be cut. Diamond isn't a candidate to be a bullpen arm (terrible splits) and I doubt they want to move Deduno back there with his erratic control. The only other possibility is we see the Twins deal someone like Burton for a young arm and promote Swarzak, but then we have those recent comments about Duensing and Swarzak coming prepared to start? All that said - It's so, SO nice to be talking about how we'll clear the filler off our roster rather than talking about how we're adding to it.
  25. There was no precedence for this club to be this active....it's such a refreshing sight. This is a perfect deal IMO - I was someone who thought the more years the better just because of the upside the guy has to pitch well beyond his price tag. Great work by Ryan.
