  1. I say the Twins are hoping to recoup his salary in having extended open times for the concessions every fifth day. We're talking like 20-30 more hours of beer and nacho sales baby!
  2. According to the Twins, Duensing is also in the fifth starter competition. The old adage about never having enough pitching should read "good" pitching instead. Not to mention you have a finite number of rosterable spots both on the 25 and 40 man. If this is the move, some clarity on the unsustainable pile of starters on the 40 man is needed. I'd love to not worry about Deduno, Worley, Diamond, and Gibson but I can't when Pelfrey is little better than them. So we lose one of them for wht is difficult to call an upgrade and a player that is older, more expensive, and less likely to be a future contributor.
  3. The cost here is not only money but potentially another cost controlled starter. At this point we're handing a lot of starts to two guys who aren't that good and have no part in the future. I'd rather give those to Worley, Diamond, Gibson, or Deduno if its not going to be a true upgrade. hopefully a trade happens but I doubt that bunch has much value right now.
  4. Let's hope they keep losing.
  5. I won't get into the examples but Castro over Bartlett was a ridiculously obvious mistake.
  6. I remember when it had awesome sci-fi too!
  7. Love this. I'll love it even more if this kicks Doumit out of town.
  8. All of that is fine and good but you can doomsday any scenario like that comment above. That justification is unnecessary and silly. There are lots of less silly, more valid reasons not to deal Sano.
  9. It may, I'm not saying anything with certainty. But how the rule is written will be key. Players block other bases, the difference with home is what Alex said. Home plate is a different animal for a number of reasons. Can you prevent contact altogether? If not, aren't you just steering contact somewhere else ala football?
  10. By that logic we should never do anything. It's just not the right way to justify it.
  11. I think citing th efforts to sign Johan and Torii makes for a funny, unintended contrast. Yeah....they "tried" in the most minimalistic way possible. The actions have changed significantly, but I doubt you'd ever hear Ryan admit the philosophy changed. He might not even be aware it has.
  12. Hopefully, the wording will be key.
  13. I'm obviously speculating, but baserunners go harder into home than anywhere else. If the rule is just that they can't go high, they are going to slide aggressively low. With how catchers generally position themselves (squat, one leg out, etc) I could see a few wrecked knees that way too.
  14. What you could see as a side effect is the same the NFL has: more knee injuries.
  15. My issue is how the rule is written, because I'm having trouble imagining how this gets written tht isn't awful and causes problems.
  16. I'm down for both of them as buy low options.
  17. See: Hicks/Mastro for reasons why this is not a good idea.
  18. Does anyone? It's a player driven issue that it doesn't happen.
  19. He's got talent for sure, but he's a reclamation project. The Twins had guys that they could've topped this offer and not have missed them a bit.
  20. LoMo dealt for not much of anything. Would've really liked this buy-low.
  21. And a lot of in-house talent. Moose, Hosmer, Escobar, Butler, Gordon, Perez should be capable of carrying a league average offense. I don't think Moore was off base to anticipate that.
  22. I think that injury was Worleys biggest problem. A year healthier and I think we see a capable guy this year.
  23. i guess where I quibble Brock is this "damned sure" notion. It's hard to be damned sure of anything. I think they had reason to believe they'd add runs just by player progress. So you couple that with a few good pitching acquisitions and you're set. Even league average and they were probably a playoff team.
  24. I certainly don't. I lived in northern Illinois during his run there and followed the Brewers and never herd anything of the sort. His issues were purely performance. He just completely fell off a cliff in terms of performance and many of his peripherals were declining. Couple that with Alcides Escobar arriving soon and tht was their reasoning. He'll, the guy had consecutive 600 PA seasons before the year they demoted him. (Which fangraphs speculates was done for service time issues) So, yeah, that doesn't hold water.
