  1. He's always come across well in interviews, so good for him. Seems like he's put in his dues.
  2. If your evaluation was fair you'd also note that he's had shoulder issues and not performed well. None of us, including Ryan, know anything for certain. It's nice we got someone like this for Doumit. I love the deal, but it's not sugar and spice and everything nice here either. The guy has some serious warts, that's why he was available.
  3. Well their biggest problem is not including Brian Duensing. Obviously.
  4. I said Hammer or Arcia, meaning we get rid of one of them haphazardly lumbering around out there. Parmelee has no trade value, he won't be moved for anything significant. DFA is more likely, but I hope not.
  5. The best part of this deal is we get Parmelee in the OF instead of Hammer or Arcia and we never have to endure the pain of Doumit in the outfield.
  6. In this league any degree of subpar QB play is a huge problem.
  7. From what I've read, it's not uncommon for 34/35 year olds to start crashing. That's where the curve really starts to crash. I'd imagine bulky guys with long injury histories are even more likely to have this happen.
  8. I'm unconvinced they're useful after 900 games.
  9. True enough, but Ryan has been pretty definitive with his thoughts on that issue. I don't disagree with him in principle either, just I think the Twins should be more open to the idea.
  10. We don't platoon and Bremer's head would explode from the strikeouts by game 8 of the season.
  11. Or your averages might be weighed by a career year and an abnormally healthy year for both. We certainly should expect some improvement, but I'm not convinced it's going to be what some hope for.
  12. I can't imagine his high strike-out rate is going to be tolerated well by this team. And as extreme as he is it may be a valid issue. He might be a decent fit here and I'd prefer him over Doumit, but I just can't see him being our kind of guy.
  13. Yeah media revenues need to be split. Well past time for that.
  14. The problem is thata lot of the better depth we now have cant be stashed. Stashing Gibson could be counter-productive, especially for a franchise that tends to favor experience over promise. And it could be difficult to stash Deduno, Diamond, and Worley. At the end of the day option 6 or 7 may not be much better than usual and we still aren't auditioning parts of the future. Pelfrey might be a steal, but I can't feel good about him until Correia is gone or this supposed depth is retained or moved some how. Otherwise it feels like we're still leaving future question marks in favor of "meh " vets.
  15. Its one thing to try and still be bad and another to sit on your hands and fail. The twins were going to lose butts in the seats very soon without more effort. This offseasons spending could be argued as just as citical a financial down payment as a talent one. if we had repeated last season's inaction there was a strong chance public perception was going to sour terribly. We may still finish fourth with this team next year but that doesn't mean our signings this year were bad moves. (One could flip some arguments here and conclude that) When your money maker is publicly financed and goodwill is critical to your profit margin, its not always about wins when you decide to spend.
  16. Possible, but unlikely.
  17. Gibson needs to pitch in the big leagues, not AAA. And there isn't much room for him if he starts tearing it up down there. Worley also may not have a spot. They've back themselves into something of a corner thanks to Pelfrey and Correia. I'm not sure they're worth that corner. Hughes and Nolasco are certainly worth it.
  18. There are plenty of examples of former top talents floundering and then rebounding to have solid careers. Chris Davis had a 51 OPS + when he was dealt. They threw a few bucks towards getting a steal. I'm all for more of that from the Twins.
  19. Fair enough, for some reason I thought Deduno was 27. But I see Correia taking up a spot and I see a mediocre Pelfrey taking a spot. And we haven't even discussed Gibson yet, I just don't like how Pelfrey now makes two guys eating starts that aren't part of the future.
  20. The problem is that it isn't clear a few of the signings are better options. Worley is not a bad pitcher - he was bad last year but the guy had been pretty darn good. Deduno has some fun stuff. And Gibson is supposed to be part of the future. All three of these guys are potentially squeezed out by two aging, hardly impressive starters. I appreciate the hell out of the effort by the Twins, I'm just not sure it's the right approach. Hughes made sense - he's got great potential to be a steal and a buy-low rebound. Nolasco is a clear upgrade. Pelfrey? Not so much on either front.
  21. I was under the impression Fryer can't be cut because he was just added? Which is the problem with a couple of recent adds that shouldn't be there.
  22. So much for needing that third baseman.
  23. I'm with you RB....I don't like that we're casting Deduno or Worley aside for older, mediocre pitching.
  24. I hope a 3-4 switch is in the future. The NFL is becoming less and less of a running league, I'd rather swap out one of the big guys for another athlete on the field.
