  1. Dozier looks like he needs a stint in A ball.
  2. This is true in general. Corporations have every reason to believe that the return on investing in their workers is lower than their investment into lobbying. It's one, of a few, reasons we have stagnant wages. We need targeted tax breaks for companies that raise wages. (Among other things)
  3. Cleveland seems to be a sub-par defensive team with some serious bullpen issues. They can be caught if we ever get our act together.
  4. The more this case is used as an example the less credible the criticisms become.
  5. I have had to resort to adblocker mostly due to TD. Sorry, it's that or I'm loaded with viruses in minutes.
  6. We are two speculative posts into thisthread and I hate the NBA more already.
  7. Gibson is a stark example of why you need to be super careful about ever giving up on a talented pitcher. I never expected this, but I also never thought cutting him when we still had team control made any sense either.
  8. We had talked about Berrios or Rosario or Gibson or Kepler in the deals among others. And, as strange as it is to say three years later, Gibson was absolutely not worth giving up for Tulowitski. Even straight up we'd have lost that trade. So, perspective is good.
  9. I think, even with this season fading away, that Realmuto would still make an excellent target. But sometimes we have to look at each case more individually. Verlander wasn't waiving his deal to come here and Detroit would've never brought it to him. That's just a fact, inconvenient as it may be for some in this thread. But there are other examples in the recent past - Tulowitski for example. Go back and read that thread. I was fairly accurate in my hesitation, but even I was stupid enough to suggest dealing Berrios for him. Thank goodness we avoided that dagger. Not every win-now move is a good one. Not every hold-your-cards-for-later is a good one either. What defines a successful FO is hitting enough to make up for the misses. But there are some here that are too gung-ho one way or the other and they'd generally make pretty terrible FO personnel.
  10. So he'd be, like, 1-7 with us record-wise?
  11. So Cave, Sano, and Petit are out and we know Mauer is in. Who else fills the roster spots?
  12. I appreciate the plan and Sano’s response so far. I hope it works.
  13. I’d like to hear their plan. I’m not sure I support this otherwise, but I’m guessing there is a specific reason for where he was sent. Still, wow.
  14. Perhaps, then I don't understand your inconsistency in your interpretation.
  15. Since it will cost Royce Lewis and more...dont you want a pretty sizable percentage? Is that reasonable to expect? I'd rather just talk with cash in November.
  16. I don't think either normalized anything. I think that brand of argument is vastly over played. But yes, you should probably back both or neither if you wish for logical consistency. Either way you are talking about how player transactions reflect/effect the larger culture. I'm even ok with calling the league's cowards, but I'd do so with less obvious incoherence in my reasons.
  17. It seems odd to admit it isn't a possibility and still complain. Yes, the price may have come down, but this isn't a video game. In 5 months the only thing stopping us from Machado is zeroes on a check. Right now sanity and living in the real world are.
  18. I think anything short of Lewis and Kirilloff probably gets you laughed off the phone. Go back and look at what they were discussing with the ChiSox this offseason. I’d rather get him to buy in this offseason. By July of this year, even with him, it could be a very defeated organization.
  19. Because the rental rate is absurd? We will have the ability to buy anything we want this offseason. If we don’t....that’s the time to light torches. This criticism has about as much validity as a thread about why Batman isn’t playing right field.
  20. Chief, you also swore Plouffe would be better than Donaldson and that Tulo wouldn't "fall off a cliff". Hindsight can make us all look brilliant or foolish. (I was heavy on trading for Cole, but I also really wanted Alex Cobb. Just so I'm not exempt from it too) We can all play the gotcha games. If the point is "The Twins should be more aggressive" - save it for the offseason, most of us agree. Using this as an example is just silly. You might as well suggest the Twins are fools for not having Buddha play catcher and Shiva pitch.
  21. Blind squirrels find nut: Http://www.yahoo.com/news/sessions-takes-microaggressions-hes-right-090024579.html
  22. It seems strange to me to base the first half of the article on a version of “X is normalizing/emboldening Y” and then utterly dismiss the same idea in the second half of the article.
  23. They probably duck-taped Pressley's arm back on this weekend and realized that wasn't going to hold long.
  24. Again, your post is fallacious and misleading. It's like comparing how much money Gone with the Wind made compared to Avengers. I bet Sears revenue in 2007 looked good compared to 1987, but that isn't the best sign of business health. Not by itself at least. Yes, the league is getting away with charging a lot right now because their 55 year old white dudes that compromise most of their fan base are forking over the cash. In 20 years, who replaces them? You can pat the league on the back for it's revenues, but any manager/CEO worth their salt would not use such a simplistic argument as yours to project the health and future of their company.
  25. Some posters here have had their lawn chairs set up for years....you’re behind the times. Busenitz needs to find some incriminating pictures. Or he’s in witness protection. Otherwise this is bananas.
