  1. Trading Sano for Realmuto is stealing from Peter to pay Paul. The aim is to get better, not swap parts. If you are getting Realmuto, you want him with Sano, not as a swap.
  2. Results are not necessarily effective measures since we know part of the game here is fooling the tests or staying ahead of them. Positive results are far from a certainty of effectiveness. And no, for the hundredth and last time, the logic is just fine provided you don’t apply it incorrectly as you have done so far. MLB and the MLBPA can fix this problem with what amounts to pennies in the grand scheme should they choose to. If they don’t, it’s reasonable to conclude they either don’t care about Gomez’s concern or about the larger problem.
  3. Sure, they probably spin this as a win. But your comments seem to be toeing a line of abandoning the right way to do things in the name of appeasing personal politics. And that is as dangerous as anything I can imagine.
  4. Unbiasedly parsing for fairness/truth is the essence of their jobs. I may prefer to see state laws handle such cases differently, but I applaud the SCOTUS for staying true to their role. Not enough of our government is doing that.
  5. At various times the last two years people have wanted to drum Gibson and Rosario out of town. Maybe we should learn to just appreciate team control a bit with talented players.
  6. I always thought there was so much potential if he could refine his approach, but this surge was not something I would've wagered on. But I was also adamant the team stick with him and believe in him. I hope he keeps rewarding the faithful.
  7. Welcome to the Rosario bandwagon, those of us who never got off already called shotgun.
  8. Judging effectiveness by how many players are caught is a weak argument. Neither of us have any clue on how effective the program is. All it will cost is money. If a few million dollars more to make it more fair and thorough is the only cost....well, I'd hope that's worth it. If it's not...then, yeah, I question their commitment.
  9. Sure, but Joe is still part of that conversation. The Twins are not obligated to play him against medical advice, but the suggestion in this thread that what Joe wants is completely irrelevant is really bizarre.
  10. Again, this simply may not be true. Especially of a 13/15 year old kid. I appreciate your position, I can't take issue with it in principle, but I would suggest things are not that clear.
  11. Right, but he was 15. We recently had a prominent celebrity celebrate this sort of thing also. Different, but not by much depending on your opinion. To be clear, I'm of the opinion that some 30 year old that molests a 5 year old is irredeemable and should be banished. Recidivism is too high to risk. But when the circumstances are like this, based on my experience, I'm a bit more hesitant. I'd rather we just avoid the headache and the association.
  12. That's fair, but then the problem becomes....how do we consider children who commit such acts? Is an 18 year old senior with a freshman girlfriend the same as what we commonly mean as "pedophile". This is a dicey area of criminality that I struggle with answers for.
  13. From my experience working with teenagers with similar accusations, I'd suggest that assumption is far from reliable.
  14. I have a hard time writing children (as he was when this happened) off for any crime, but I'd prefer the Twins avoid the PR nightmare. It's likely not worth it.
  15. No one is saying it has to be his to make, but that he has an opinion too. The Twins would be right to listen to it along with other relevant information. Discarding him should only really happen if he prefers that option. He's been with the organization long enough that they should care what he prefers. Plus it's just the right way to do things.
  16. I wonder if that wasn't a clubhouse-based decision to leave Lynn in. As in - "we want you to know we believe in you, go believe in yourself" kind of thing. Not sure it matters, but that's what I'd bet was the idea behind it.
  17. Well, we can rest easy that he would have failed either way then....
  18. I can't think of a more ideal time to put that particular play on. At some point players have to execute.
  19. I thought the point of the "contact play" was to take the decision making away from the runner so there isn't hesitation? That one is completely on Garver for hitting the ball weakly to the worst possible place IMO.
  20. We really can't do anything right now. I want us to sell, but realistically that doesn't happen in June. We'll have to wait until July when it is more likely there will be interest in trading. I'm not saying MLB should operate this way, but it does. We're riding this out for 6-7 weeks whether we want to or not.
  21. If Gibson has high interest - deal him too. Dozier has been a time bomb ticking for awhile. Hitters who rely on feast and famine are generally a bad gamble, so I hope he has one more feast in him.
  22. Yup, they paid a ton and expected perks. Makes sense and they made the most of their perks.
  23. He was a 6M backup goalie, they got that off their books. They were absolutely happy about it.
  24. Time to start rooting for the "sell" candidates to succeed. Might not be the worst thing for this team to get some value for Rodney, Reed, Duke, Dozier, and others.
