  1. Well, worst case scenario you had better assets to move at the deadline. You could've bought Cobb for the price of Lynn and LoMo earlier in the offseason. And Cole would've made little, if any, meaningful dent in our prospect pipeline to acquire. There was only upside to be had with those guys. I'm not sure who those players will be again this year, but here is a short list of names I'd call about: 3B Jake Lamb (Might be a buy-low option on a team about to blow up in a rebuild. I'd ask about Grienke too) IF Jurickson Profar SP Marcus Stroman And I get a price tag for Wheeler, Degrom, and Syndergaard. Maybe they're too pricey, but I'd at least check.
  2. It's all politics. Manchin and Murkowski did each other a favor, Collins gets to look like a centrist. Flake and Sasse look like Trump's whipping boys again. At some point you'd think they'd just have enough of getting their ass handed to them and sabotage a big moment just as a middle finger to Trump.
  3. Well, my top priorities last year were Gerrit Cole and Alex Cobb. I think Houston's return was beatable and second half Cobb shows that maybe having him in ST might have netted a stud. Add two bonafide starters to Gibson and Berrios might have changed the whole complexion. And it was very doable.
  4. TK used to say 1,000 PA's is the time to make judgements. I think that is a good bar in general.
  5. It could certainly galvanize the left also, but Republicans have shown to be more adept at this. I also wonder about the MeToo angle. The Avenetti/Ramirez component to this has been far more detrimental than helpful.
  6. Boston's TV deal is double ours. I'd like to emulate their tactics, but they simply have more resources. And that does matter.
  7. A lot of political capital was spent here and possibly was galvanizing to the right. I hope this doesn't turn out as a terrible political miscalculation.
  8. At this point I have zero confidence inThibs' judgement on anything. He just needs to go.
  9. What about the stuff that contradicts the other stuff? Management by TD opinions would result in Target Field starting on fire by the fourth inning of game 1.
  10. This is an off-season for aggression, but reckless aggression is a bad thing. You shouldn't always be chasing the playoffs, sometimes you have to reload assets too. Wisely the Twins did that at the deadline, now is the time to spend cash and trade collateral. This team can be back in the hunt next year and has the means to do so.
  11. Holy crap! How am I only hearing of this now? Sheen and Tenant...this will be a must watch.
  12. It doesn't really change the point though does it? If you can't hit (and Buxton overwhelmingly has not), those things don't matter because you won't get the opportunity. Buxton has roughly been to the Twins what Pedro Florimon was in 2014. That player doesn't get to play because they are simply too poor offensively to justify it. We can appreciate those things Buxton brings, but it doesn't change the reality of the situation. With Sano we are hoping to see him rise to our hopes. With Buxton we're not even sure he's worthy of a roster spot. There is a major, major difference.
  13. I don't think he's signing on to be a bench player anywhere. I'm ok paying him starter money though, but that's what you'll have to do.
  14. I don't know what will break tribalism. Part of the issue has been technology, it has opened the door for more extreme versions of this. I'm not sure how we put an end to the kind of awful stuff we hear out there that drives the discussion. Truth has become very subjective and both 30 percents (party-wise) seem content with that. I'm really not, but I'd be lying if I said I had any great solutions. Keep pounding the drum of truth and good sense? Doesn't seem like it's working, but I'm not sure how much anyone is actually pounding either.
  15. Being outshot 26-10? Yup...we're back!
  16. Well we can't have that! But I'd vote we could start ripping the equipment managers....they've been getting off easy for far too long anyway.
  17. The league embracing it is great, but now they need to step up their suspensions/punishments for players who retaliate for these things. The league has never been the main opponent for players showing emotion - the players self-policing is the enemy of this kind of play. Time to start handing out truly punitive suspensions to players who do that. Or this ad means nothing ultimately.
  18. Well, that’s more about Buxton right? But that’s why I want a true (and good) CF backup. Though, if Austin is on the roster and playing corner OF on occasion, it probably squeezes him out.
  19. It is debatable, unfortunately any attempts to quantify become loaded with assumptions. I think Passan had an article recently where a manager was quoted as saying they basically did nothing, but this is an opinion I have that doesn’t have data. Just a hunch with a lot of plausible speculation.
  20. I disagree. Managers add almost nothing. Will it be hard to replace him? No. But that’s true for pretty much anyone with that title IMO. Especially in today’s game. Talent is king, whoever the new guy is better hope he is afforded a lot more of it.
  21. I mean, I'm game to go get a very good OF too. I also agree that there is minimal upside, but some of the arguments being used don't really fit. Replacement level, or slightly above, on yoru bench is a good bench player. We have to stop thinking about "replacement level" as a literal thing. I'm of the opinion you go get a real CFer and, if Buxton shocks you into being playable again, you still have DH and 1B to rotate guys through. But I wouldn't dismiss the idea of Grossman fitting on the bench entirely.
  22. If you do that you'd almost have to trade a PG. I know the Suns are desperate so you might be able to get something nice for Jones or Teague in that scenario.
  23. I'm pretty sure he crawled out, put on a bad toupee, and has been making awkward passes at his daughter until he found the right moment to become President.
  24. I'm not going to disparage Mauer, I think he's a HOFer. But he was nowhere near the player Pujols or Miguel Cabrera were. Pujols hit 400 HRs in that decade. He out-paced Mauer by almost 16 WAR over that time. I think we can appreciate Mauer without too much hyperbole.
