Run game looked good. Murray wasn't exactly impressive in his three throws either.

The Caleb love is based on the small sample at the end of last year where things seemed to click. I'm not sold on him, but it isn't the Bears offense that I'm worried about and actively betting against for a repeat performance.
  3. TheLeviathan
I'd say their own record and run differential are numbers 1 and 2. Have been since, I don't know, April.

Whether you thought the Twins should be buyers or sellers there was a desperate need for this team to move OFs from the 40 man at the trade deadline. Don't want to sell? Ok, then it's time to move E-rod and Wallner for something else. Bullpen. Starter. Whatever. Want to sell? High point to sell Larnach, move off Bell and give ABs to the young kids. Either way they need to do something since they piled Roden into this group, signed Bell, kept Larnach, and turned their 40 man into a waystation for lefty hitting outfielders with serious question marks.

At this point I want us to basically scrap the passing game and go straight up wishbone. Win 6-0 every week.

I think Vikings fans are going to find out why the Cardinals paid 40M to usher him out the door. He'll make some fun plays, but he's a frustratingly bad QB for long stretches of time.
  7. TheLeviathan
I totally agree I just don't see this outfield ever leveling up beyond "pretty bad" given the options and having to park Larnach in the field rather than DH.

They played the Brewers tough but if they're still under .500 heading into September it doesn't really matter what the WC standings say. This offensive malaise is simply the regression that was likely to happen when you spend the first half of the season hitting like you're Tony Gwynn everytime there are runners in scoring position. This team should call up Wallner. They're already bad defensively, having him and Clemens, and Keaschall all in the field can't do any worse than the current group is doing. At least they might score a few more.

Positional flexibility has a ton of value, the Brewers excel at that. But we seem to push guys to play multiple positions badly....which isn't valuable. At this point I'd settle for just guys who can play one spot well and finding that spot long before they get to the big leagues.

Metrics are erratic on him for sure.

The reason for this move was to cement a good defender in the middle of the infield. The bat has been good enough to make that possible - even with the warts that are definitely there. This team NEEDS more plus defenders. The defense is literred with absolute bums or miscast guys without the skills or experience to play there. One of my biggest annoyances with this franchise is their unwillingness to identify a player's defensive weaknesses and move them to a position better suited to them earlier in their development. Adding Neto might have saved Culpepper from the same fate. Dealing Jenkins or some elite return though? No thanks.
  12. TheLeviathan
Definitely don't want to imply using a small sample, more based on the scouting from his draft day.

I wasn't able to watch last night because parenting ought to come with free shuttle service for small humans. He looked rough in the field? That's my biggest concern is that he needs to move to his long-term spot as soon as possible. I figured that was bound for 2B. So any insights would be appreciated!
  14. TheLeviathan
Don't underestimate Murray's ability to be hurt or awful.
  15. TheLeviathan
They aren't "stuck". They probably bypassed dealing him at his peak value, but they aren't stuck. There is a reckoning coming on what they do with the glut of "I'm an outfielder but you'd be dumb to play me there" guys on the roster right now.
  16. TheLeviathan
Totally agree and I'm glad you're enjoying the team. This article, however, is both inaccurate and poorly argued. Sports needs less dopey clickbait too.
  17. TheLeviathan
Better start working on that plan, he's already gone.

Sucks to see several pages battling our roster mess. The deadline offered high value for Jeffers and likely could've provided space to move some of our OF glut to reduce most of the problems discussed here. Instead...misfit roster.
  20. TheLeviathan
This article is embarrassing. Even for one of the eleventy Codys we have here. Are we being for real here? Buying early? They added Hoffman on the deadline and the other two guys of any note a whopping 3 days before the deadline. Tommy Nance is no different than Gomez - those were bullpen desperation moves not trade deadline moves. Good lord. Investing money? 8 million dollars and we keep rolling out the red carpet for Pohlad Praise. Embarrassing. Not targeting relievers? Two of the three you cited - Colome and Lopez - were acquired by the Falvey regime. They traded for Dyson and Romo. They barely acquire anyone at the deadline, relief pitching seems just as frequent/infrequent as any others. Are we trying to hit some kind of quota on terrible articles the last week?

Clearing the Wentz bar isn't much of a statement. That said...I'm a Murray skeptic. I'm not sold on this path at all.
  22. TheLeviathan
Let's keep the expectations tempered while we also enjoy a fun time getting to see what this kid can do! I hope he injects the team with some life.
  23. TheLeviathan
Yeah, I was being too harsh probably but I just don't know how a team that gets so little power from so many spots in their lineup can afford to have a 1B with low power as well. I could be convinced to stick with him if we saw Culpepper, Jenkins, and a DH come up and inject the lineup with more life.
  24. TheLeviathan
2027? I imagine this: C : Caratini (hard meh) 1B Lewis (totally replacement level at this point) 2B Culpepper (where he goes long term) SS: God help us if they are on the roster now 3B Lee (Actually solid!) LF Keaschall (This or trade) CF Buxton (Need backup) RF Jenkins This team could really use some non-crappy sluggers ar 1B and DH. Though we get ever closer to Buck being the full time DH.
  25. TheLeviathan
I get the JJ feels...but Murray sucks right now too.
