    I don't think that last part is fair at all. There is a lot to be said about Byron's injuries, but an unwillingness to be "tough" ain't one of them.

    What do you think of a fan who wants 2022 baseball to be played at the speed of 1992 baseball? I have no problem with baseball being way, way less fast paced than hockey. Or less engaging between each "play" like football. I have a problem with the game looking nothing like it did when I became a fan. And since it moved in the direction of "slower, more boring"...I'm not a fan.

    I am so over the defense of "all opinions should be heard". No. No they shouldn't. If you're misleading, lying, vacuous, nonsensical, or any other form of "This isn't well intentioned or well reasoned"....screw that. Not only do you not deserve to be heard, we should actively stop your nonsense from infecting otherwise reasonable and interesting discourse. If my wife and I are discussing our plans for the weekend and I want a serious discussion about space travel to the Kepler system....she would rightly tell me to shut up. We teach kids from a young age to have well reasoned, on topic discussions. Then as adults we seem to think letting any inane, down right stupid, harmful, or malicious conversation happen out of some misguided notion of free speech is ok. It's preposterous.

    I also think the death of the starter and the rise of the "throw 5 relievers a game" style of baseball has badly hurt the aesthetic of the game.

    Managers are mostly irrelevant. They pretty much always have been. They have a function, but people put WAY too much stock in them. They're little more than college dorm RAs.

    Suggesting we ease Buxton back in from this injury at DH makes sense for a few days if we aren't putting him on the IL. It's not unlike what happens in rehab assignments where players work their way back in phases. Leaping from that to regular DH time is preposterous. Randball Stu would be proud of that kind of premise. Byron Buxton gets hurt doing pretty much everything involved with playing baseball. If he's healthy enough to play....you play him in CF.

    If Walker, Thibedeaux, Johnson, or Hutchinson slip and push that group down we could be in a prime spot for someone in the 20-25 range to come up. Cards are desperate for one of those 4. Could land 23, 55, and a 2 next year or 23 and a 1 next year in that case.

    I can't remember a draft with more variance in the opinions. You see the same Prospect ranked fifth in one guys rankings and another they might be 25th. I expect this draft to go much more unexpectedly then is typically the case. 100% with you on trading down.

    My personal belief is that one of the reasons the unwritten rules are unwritten is because the second you try to elaborate on what they are, when they come into play, and why they exist at all....the massive logical gaps in the thinking are exposed. Contradictory, downright stupid, unclear, etc. They are purposely nebulous because the alternative is to openly admit to their foolishness.

    Damn right. All bets are off once you have the gall to put a shortstop throwing 70 mph on the mound. You don't get to whine about integrity of the game from that point on.

    So with the draft so close, what is your ideal scenario Dan? I'm hoping we can land a trade down to the 20-24 range and just pick the best defender on the board. McDuffie, Booth, Lloyd, one of the pass rusher....I'm really not partial to position. Whoever can step in and play day 1.

    I love a big space eater too. For the record, I'm not sure Tomlinson is the nose tackle. If we're playing a hybrid front he might be closer to a 3 technique on the guard. For my money, I'd rather trade down and hope Travis Jones is available in the 2nd round. He might be my favorite run stuffer in this class.

    My wife and I really loved the characters in the Good Place. I wonder what you'll think about the series as time goes on, but we laughed a lot at the show. Good philosophical underpinnings too! I'm into Picard, I have to give Discovery a chance. (Assuming you mean Star Trek) Ditto on Moon Knight, has a cool vibe so far.

    There is absolutely nothing amusing about this claptrap of a thread. Seriously. There are people making sane, rational points and there are people who are not. But in the spirit of this thread. 0-12 calls for Kiriloff to switch to hockey. Jose Berrios and his infinity ERA should consider cricket. And we can end the season now for the 162-0 Rays. #makin'somegoodarguments.

    It definitely could be a step back for this year. If Rogers is healthy and at his best he's among the best left handed relievers in the game. At the same time, he was likely gone in a short while and we get a guy in Pagan who has been very good in the past and has some peripherals that indicate it wouldn't take much to get back there. If Paddock hits....that's a lot more innings of help than either of the relievers. One thing is for sure.....Duffey has never had a problem letting the moment be "too big" for him. I hope the loss the other night leads us to go with Duran and Alcala in crunch time situations. Even at his best that hasn't been Duffey's strength.

    Agreed, I don't hold that expectation for them. But I'm ready to give them all the credit if they can! You can only judge trades, at the time, by the thought process. IMO, this is exactly how a FO should act....expiring RP dealt for controllable, upside SP. I take that all day.
