  1. 4/60M is exactly what I was about to suggest. I don't love that contract as a Twins fan/pretend FO guy....but I'd do it. Frankly, I'd do it because there is no possible way I see this team spending all it's available resources on free agents the next 4 years. I'd go ahead and offer that this offseason. (With one caveat...if your trade discussions lead you to believe you might have opportunities this offseason for a deal. But I'm guessing you'd have already pulled that trigger if you did)
  2. True, but you can find at-bats for players. The problem is staying through the struggles. But hell, we've seen the Twins struggle with that even when they're terrible. That's the part that bugs me the most - stop giving 600 ABs to your clubhouse veterans or noteworthy innings to your Belisles when there are players to be putting out there and investing in. I don't see why. There is literally no upside in spending your available opportunities on those dudes. You want to spend a roster spot so your clubhouse has a good Jedi/Padawan feel? Fine. But stop taking away the playing time of players you might have a future in.
  3. Absolutely, I just think the idea you can't compete and offer opportunities isn't mutually exclusive. Just, as you said, you need to pick the right spots. Players, and playing time, are investments. Just like other investments, you need to be sharp about when and where you choose to invest. (Or not)
  4. I don't know, aren't there good teams every year that find a way to bring their players along through struggles even while they are contending? Cleveland stuck with Lonnie Chisenhall and Trevor Bauer. Arizona stuck with Peralta. If I wanted to keep digging I'm sure I could come up with some more. Patience is so key with development and sometimes the immediate sacrifices can be worth it.
  5. Kinda fits with the theme the last few pages - every one of them should look in the mirror. They are making every GM in the league look wise for passing on investing in them.
  6. Well said. And the counterpoint to this would be to suggest that Dozier is too much of the focus. Well, this is the player demanding to hit in the lineup where he wants. The one who is seen as the offensive leader and clubhouse leader. If that's your position on the team, then expect more responsibility being thrown at your feet too. Especially when you couple how vocal he's been complaining about the FO. He was more subtle about it this year, but nonetheless silly about his complaints. If Dozier doesn't like his buddies being traded, maybe he should try to be less of a blackhole for half a season.
  7. I like the high upside targets, I think that was a brilliant tactic. But you can't finish second on players you want in free agency this year. And this is where all those dollars and bodies you invested into the development system need to pay dividends.
  8. If even 2 of these guys become the next Eddie Escobar, not a single person on this board is going to be sad about passing up on an 8% chance to get stomped by Houston.
  9. April 22nd was the last time we were actually at .500. Good luck to Dozier, I think his contract this offseason might be his last, so I hope he has a chance to cash in.
  10. We got live human beings for Lance Lynn. Trade win.
  11. To me the value is in clearing a roster spot for someone we can look at going forward. The return is irrelevant to me.
  12. Brian Dozier may just have gone permanent pumpkin. He's not at an age with middle-infielders that is very encouraging going forward. I would consider the QO if they can't find a deal, but I only do so hoping he can rebuild value again and deal him off. If he has gone pumpkin, that QO is the last dollar I pay him.
  13. Since this is about selling, I thought this was worth posting here.
  14. I guess I have a hard time seeing a team as a contender if they can't win more games than they lose over 100 games. And if you're not a contender....why act like one?
  15. Escobar was a free agent. Is Pressley the difference between contending and not contending in 2019? You don't think that seems a bit silly? We all want to see a pennant race, but we are sitting here on July 29th 8 games under .500. We haven't been .500 since April 22nd. Some of these complaints are really misguided - they come off as frustration with a lost season being leveled indiscriminately. The FO is making the right call, it's time to accept that. Or at least try and be a bit more fair-minded about your criticisms.
  16. I think it's odd (but unsurprising) that people think Gibson is too valuable to let go of, but that no one else in baseball will value him that way. Maybe they don't....but then maybe there is good reason for that too.
  17. It's looking harder to see a spot for Dozier out there. He may be an August candidate, but I would be a bit surprised if he cleared waivers.
  18. Well, it's also possibly $2 or $3. Just to keep things fair in that analysis. It's also worth noting that, in this scenario, eventually your $1 will turn into $0 all on it's own.
  19. I love the high-upside Class A/AA approach of the first two trades. But I think if Gibson is moved the return needs to be closer to contributing to the big leagues.
  20. One thing I really hope is that as guys are traded we see players get seasoning at the big league level that need it. This is wehre we need to give Gonsalves, Moya, Gordon, etc. the time to get their feet wet. It'll give us something to be invested in. Along with (hopefully) positive progress from Buxton and Sano.
  21. There are absolutely posters doing exactly that. Judging every trade negatively based on little more than "I want to win" and not putting any context into their criticism. It's ok to not like the returns on deals. It's ok to be unhappy we're in this position. But that civil discussion you want is also derailed by people effectively pouting about the reality of our situation. That isn't helpful either.
