  1. This is just a question. In what way is this a pivotal year for Buxton?
  2. So first he was highly rewarded, and then thrust into MLB only to suffer from ineffective leadership that originally highly rewarded him? Do I have that right? If one of his peers couldn't get through to him and show him the way, what makes you think the coaches could. He got hurt and he got into bad habits and he got lazy.
  3. I don't know if Sano wasn't physically capable. He didn't stay in the best of shape. But you can't sit around drinking beer and smoking cigarettes while everyone else is working to get better, and you just showing up. The only person who let down Sano was Sano himself.
  4. So Nelson Cruz made a statement. That's his opinion. Every MLB team is made up of players from all over the world. So IMHO that makes it a world series. They just happen to be based in the US and Canada. So let's just scrap the system. Form a league made up of all the Latin America countries. Have a US/Canadian/Mexico league. An Asian league and a European league. You'll be down to 12-16 teams in North America so you can kiss your Twins goodbye. And then you can have your REAL World Series. Top 2 teams and playoffs.
  5. It is a global sport and every team is represented by teams made up from many nations. The Twins have players from multiple countries. Your idea won't work simply because of logistics ie travel time. From New York to Tokyo is a 15 hour flight. It could work but you'd have to shorten the season. And if you were to play a team from Caracas or Monterey or Seoul are you suggesting adding more teams or relegation like they do in Soccer
  6. And I'm pretty sure he's a Mets fan
  7. Thanks for clarifying 👍
  8. 😄 For sure
  9. I agree, but in this case you're saying the owners are making money on the WBC. And yesterday's TD article about the Twins and other teams losing money every year. Which is bull carp. I know I'm off topic but extremely rich people are always crying poor mouth. So if they are indeed making a good chunk off the WBC it'll stay. And not 100% sure the Diaz injury will be fully covered by insurance. That language usually consists of if injured during action on the field of play. So if he slipped coming out of the dugout to assume his position or got hit by a line drive, then yes. But you know how insurance companies are. They'll say it happened due to negligence.
  10. It's been called the World Series since 1903 or somewhere in that time frame. I don't think we need to change the name to be "politically correct". They've already caved on changing team names and mascots.
  11. The only ones who don't want WBC are the Mets and Astro fans. It was good exciting play. I never knew Great Britain and Isreal could field whole teams. Yes I know a lot of players used ancestry but all in all it was way better than watching ST games. And guys can and do get hurt every year in ST. But at some point MLB will manage to screw it up. The owners will try to put language in player contracts that may not forbid them to play, but will stipulate that if someone is injured in WBC play they won't have to pay for time lost.
  12. I'm just saying. Do you think the Twins would do that? I'm not questioning your moves. For the Twins not only having to eat crow, but then have to pay as well.
  13. "If Gordon, Kepler, Gallo, whoever isn't earning a starting spot don't just move them from the 5 hole to the 8 hole, put them on the bench. Or cut them if they're terrible." Really? The Twins are just going to release 20 million dollars that they'd be on the hook for.
  14. No but a lot of people have been injured and had surgeries and had to rehab to get on with living. What's your point. Do you have to be an athlete to understand?
  15. You like to use Brian Kenny type analysis. So using his barometer to measure. There are 25 Starting Pitchers in his top 100 players right now. So the number you used was 27. I would say the way they stack up is close to that number. Let's say 30 or 35 number 1s and 2s total. And several teams have multiple players on that list. Playoff teams, no surprise there. Gray and Ryan avg less than 5 innings per start. Mahle is coming back from. Injury. Maeda hasn't pitched in over a year. Lopez we'll have to see about. I watched him while I was down there and he pitched in the WBC and he looked pretty good. All I'm saying is based on that knowledge, saying you have 5 number 2s is being pretty optimistic to say the least.
  16. I've heard really good things in regards to this year's training staff as opposed to the last couple years. But they're also up against it in the sense that they've inherited a few Humpty Dumptys they're trying to put back together.
  17. I said close to 200 innings. If they have 30 starts an average of 6 innings per start that's 180 innings. That's CLOSE to 200. And I watch as much non Twins baseball as I can. I live where I have Bally coverage of the Reds and Braves. So I would say I watch CLOSE to 300 games a year. I watched all of the WBC, not just USA. And you didn't answer the question mr stats. Which Twin pitcher would slot in #2 on the Rays. If you're going to pick apart a post. READ IT 1ST
  18. I only threw that 16-10 record out there because #2 starters on good teams are around 14-8 15-9 16-10 type records who throw close to 200 innings era low 3s. And yes unlike the dude Kenny on MLB Network who says wins and losses are overrated, the same guy who says RBI are overrated. I'll stick with the eye test
  19. I just did that and I used Tampa Bay. Their starting 5 is McClanahan Glasnow Eflin Rasmussen and then either Springs or Fleming, So which Twins pitcher is a #2 on that staff. Stop with the Fan Graphs.
  20. Once again. Which one of the Twins starters would be a #2 starter on Houston, New York, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, or Seattle. And those are the teams that the Twins have to beat for a title run. I'll add the Red Sox and White Sox too. Let's Just say they have 5 solid starters who will give them an opportunity to win when they pitch. There's going to be bad outings and good ones. If they had 5 #2 pitchers who go 16-10 they'd win the division going away.
  21. IThat's the problem with analytics. You can use Tony Gwynn. His splits on the road were about 10 points less BA wise. And his splits righties vs lefties was 20 points less. In some cases road splits are extreme. See Colorado Rockies. In a lot of cases there isn't much difference. What was the Twins wRC+ at home. These metrics I don't buy into. There's too many variables that you can't compute. Let's use Polanco who was trying to play on 1 leg the last month and how his stats dropped off because of that reason. Not because he was playing on the road. Same thing for Larnach, Kiriloff, Buxton, and Kepler. Who's stats all dropped off due to injuries. You can't compute that.
  22. They may not be hiding or covering up anything. But they also aren't telling you he won't be playing CF this year. Solely DH. So how many games will he play in that scenario. I posted yesterday that he would be DH today, and that's where he'll be all year
  23. Power might still play, but a Molitor type hitter would suit me just fine. Hit .300 with 30 or 40 doubles and 15-20 homers. Lewis could be that person. Maybe Lee or Julien.
  24. Buxton DH in tomorrow's ST game is my guess for his 1st game. Just a hunch
