  1. Give them Kepler, and throw in Duensing if needed.
  2. Surprising this hasn't resolved itself yet. I'm surprised the Mets haven't worked it out by now, if they could. I imagine there is another deal being worked on, and they are making sure all the physical/medical is done prior to announcing anything else.
  3. This sounds right to me. The team may be willing to take the risk, so long as they can insure against that risk, but if the insurance company says no thanks, it will definitely push the team to reconsider...
  4. My read is that this reaching the media is significant. Why damage the incoming star with this report/leak if it could be simply overcome? You can boo-hoo delaying a press conference/announcement for all kinds of reasons other than this. SF may be laying the ground work to pull out.
  5. Oh boy. The receipts will say we were really really close.
  6. I've been meaning to check it out for sure.
  7. How much of his contract would we have to eat in order to trade him?
  8. It's not though. Austin Martin and SWR were both top 100 guys at the time (with some having Martin very high). Maybe Steer is a top 100 guy...
  9. The only real asset the Twins gave up is Povich, who hasn't even reached double AA. I don't see any downside to this move, especially given the 2 years of control going forward. Heck of a move.
  10. Those 14 games starting at 3B sure give us the full picture.
  11. Why be eager to sell the poor production against the pedigree/profile? I don't get it. Keep such guys in the system and bet on them to produce.
  12. That feels like an overpay to me. Along with selling low on two top 5 talents.
  13. I suppose it's been a couple days since we've discussed trading Carlos Correa, so it's ripe for discussion. ;/ But the idea of trading Kepler, Urshela or Polanco and holding on to prospects is palpable. However, it's hard to conceive of actual trading partners that will net us the pitching we need, and we'll also zap our major league depth, which we've been pushing the limits of all year. Can any one propose any actual trades that make sense involving the players listed in the article?
  14. The comparisons to TNG will always be there. I mean I revere TNG, but a lot of it was just bad and campy af. I feel you, that Picard Season 2 ruined a continued Q narrative is pretty unforgiveable. Discovery kinda jumped the shark for me too in the last two seasons, when the first few were great. SNW is a bit of a throwback, in that nearly all the episodes are self contained. The tone is a good combination of fun and seriousness. It's kind of nice I can forget about for weeks and just jump right back in. The simultaneous development of the Star Treks and the Star Wars has just thinned the writing and the production; while I love new content, I want good content; and the need to fill the new streaming services with content is at odds with that.
  15. It was bad. Stop doing the let's go explore what Star Trek characters are like in a random 20th decade. I thought Picard Season 1 was very good, and it looks the entire TNG cast (except for Wesley Crusher) is coming back for season 3, so I'll tune in. I've been enjoying Strange New Worlds episodic approach instead the serial drama that gets unsatisfactorily concluded.
  16. Anderson was comparing himself to Jackie because of the dearth of African Americans in baseball; not because his play was comparable. That's part of what makes Donaldson's comments so offensive.
  17. Such a strange comment in otherwise grounded post. Cron hasn't been a Twin for 3 years. We can play let's cherry pick former Twins all day long....
  18. Are we gonna pinch run for him each time too? Sigh.
  19. I'd argue that the distance between Rogers and Pagan is more narrow than Paddack and the Twins 6th best starting pitcher. In that sense this is as much about 2022, as it is about maximizing control and assets. Clearly the Twins believe in their pitching pipeline; and even if that doesn't bare fruit early this season, they can add to the bullpen at he deadline. The Twins are competing this season, but, as they should, maximize assets, even at short term risk.
  20. You're just cherry picking stats to fit a negative take. Look all the way to right on b-ref and you see that FIP number? That means he was having extraordinarily bad luck last year. The Twins will have much better defense behind him than what San Diego was putting out there.
  21. If there's not a deal tonight; I doubt it goes through. The leaks seem designed to move a deal along or test the waters potential names. I imagine the backlash from Rogers name being floated is outsized, perhaps the Twins could leverage that into more in return...
  22. I take exception to this. It's not a matter of effort, which your post implies, nor is it a matter of lack or respect or whatever. Some people's brains, like mine, don't discern errors because our brains fix them on the fly. I have typos, misspellings and missing words because of this in everything I write. And somehow I've managed to have three degrees in English, and one in law, having taught more than a 1000 students how to write. Sure, proofreading helps prevent this, but for one line posts, it's not worth calling out.
