  1. Aaron Hicks made some brilliant plays in the field. As mentioned above, that throw at Yankee Stadium where he gunned down Vernon Wells was 'holy [redacted]!' worthy.
  2. here is my prediction: Liam Hendriks to 'long man', Swarzak to a 6/7 inning role. Swarzak is following in the step of Matty Guerrier
  3. Im not a Pelfrey fan because anytime there is a runner on base, the pace of the game slows way down. And Pelfrey allows a lot of base runners
  4. agreed. I says a lot about the sad state of the starters, but Pressly has 73.1 innings pitched. That is good for 6th on the team, and 2nd most from the bullpen (miles behind Swarzak's 92.2)
  5. schedule breakdown (in any sport. How the NFL schedule release gets days of coverage and then weeks of 'analysis' always baffles me.) but, like this year, a lot of home games to end the season.
  6. but seriously, you should watch because you might see something that you might have never seen before. Like the other day when the Twins had no business winning that game against Darvish and a couple blast later there they are shaking hands. Baseball, its a beautiful game
  7. Swarzak needs 18 innings to hit 100 innings in relief thats something to look forward too!
  8. Rick Aguilera traded to Boston in July 1995, signed with the Twins in offseason
  9. wait, the complaints are the Twins didnt get enough in return for Jamey Carroll? (who is 1-25 since joining the Royals) I imagine if the Twins did get a player back, he would not be good enough prospect.
  10. 4 HRs in 55 games played at 1B (roughly 1 HR every 14 games) 91 HRs in 897 games played at C (roughly 1 HR every 10 games)
  11. it might make some difference, but Rawlings and SABR have teamed up and is sending a resource guide to the voters along with the ballots New sabermetric component, SABR Defensive Index, revealed for Rawlings Gold Glove Award | SABR
  12. I not arguing for against Mauer moving to first permanently, but a name that comes to mind is John Olerud. Olerud hit more homeruns than Mauer ever would , but he hit for a good average and hit tons of doubles.
  13. I'd rather see Herrmann in the lineup than Clete Thomas. Anyway, Im not one to get overly worked up about roster construction and stuff, (Im not sitting in the GMs office listening to phone calls and rarely do you get useful info during interviews), or who why a guy is in Gardy's doghouse (again, not in the lockerroom so I dont know the full story) but this off season is a huge one. (cliche alert!!!). The Twins absolutely have to get a stud pitcher, whether it be through trade or free agency. Too me, its "#1 with a bullet" priority. Because if next season the starting pitching staff looks like what we have this year, there is no hope to luck into 90 wins and then make a run in the playoffs.
  14. whether Gardy resigns or is not offered a contract is out of my control so I tend to not think about it too much. BUT, I do watch most every game still and I am just happy that this team still plays baseball. They may not be good at it sometimes, but it seems like the team hasnt quit. I think that kind of stuff primarily falls under the manager role.
  15. the Twins note is for starters. Theilbar had a longer streak earlier this year (although some inherited runners scored so to me his streak is a little less impressive)
  16. with Butera and now Carroll gone, who becomes out emergency relief pitcher? Carroll will get career hit #1000 in a Royals uniform. I imagine Escobar gets called up.
  17. Brian Dozier is the first Twins secondbaseman to hit 10+ home runs in a season since Luis Rivas hit 10 in 2004. And Dozier is the first Twins secondbaseman to hit 25+ double in a season since Todd Walker hit 37 back in 1999 (Walker hit 27 playing 2B, 10 as a DH)
  18. They 'overpayed' for Gil Meche a few years back. I dont know if that what the poster was thinking of, but that what comes to mind.
  19. need the 'veteran presence' in the middle of the lineup!!!!oneone!11
  20. I noticed when Dozier was out, there were a lot more balls going up the middle for base hits (past a diving Carroll!) Dozier has 9 HRs so far this year, if he hits one more he will be the first Twins regular 2Bman to hit double digit HRs since Luis Rivas hit 10 in 2004
  21. should Don Cooper be fired because he couldnt get anything out of Liriano ?
  22. well, batting leadoff he gets those extra at bats. he goes 1-5, well thats a .200 average and the overall BA goes down.
  23. last season, Jason Marquis missed a lot of spring training time because something happened to his kid. I recall the Twins saying take your time.
  24. they way I look at it is that the Twins are going to need to upper tier free agents to fill out a good pitching staff and fill in some holes in the lineup. Better to win and make to team look competitive to those players than it is to lose and gain 3 or 4 draft slots for a player that is 4 years away. not that I am against high end draft picks. We got some of those the last few years. Now lets win some playoff games.
