  1. what is the breakdown between Mauer swing and miss for a K and caught looking? Is is different from what his career norms? Is that stat even available anywhere?
  2. I said it before, but I think Roy Smalley would be a great color guy if only he could shut up for more than 7 seconds. Coomer is good too. I think the rotating cast of color guys is a great idea. Bring in another pitcher (man having Kaat back in the booth would be awesome) and then circulate them every 2 or 3 weeks: Bert, Smalley, Coomer, TK, another guest (preferably another pitcher). Each of them has a different look at the game, and maybe it gives the viewers/listeners a strategy or an idea they have never heard before because Bert has pretty much clocked out of doing any actual analysis, and is useless when it comes to hitting and fielding ('put the barrel of the bat on the ball' weee!). I get the feeling Dick Bremer is going to be play by play until he wants to retire. I have said this many times, I think Dick actually knows a lot of baseball, but for some reason he plays dumb when Bert is around. I dont know why. But there is a huge difference when he calls games with Coomer and Smalley.
  3. DicknBert were talking about this during the game. They listed a bunch of categories that Hicks was leading AL rookies (pretty much everything but batting average) and said if his BA numbers were something like .250, Hicks would be the front runner.
  4. I think Roy Smalley would be pretty good if he (or a producer or someone) stops talking for a moment. One of the game during the road trip, he was talking about the struggles of Brian Dozier and what Brunansky was working on during warm ups and how it applies to the game, but it took about about a 1000 word to tell the story. It had no impact. I like Bert, but it just seems like after he got into the Hall of Fame, he is going through the motions in the broadcast booth.
  5. Joe Mauer gets traded and Drew Butera is now your starting catcher for the next 5 years
  6. the anger over this move reminds me of the anger toward the Twins when they traded Billy Bullock for Scott Diamond. I understand this decision is a bit weird (as other have said 5 catchers 1 CF on the 40 man??) , but I get the feeling right now the Twins could trade Drew Butera for Mike Trout and there would still be bitching toward the front office because they couldnt get another player in the trade.
  7. but what if the Twins threw money at player only to have the player spun the offer and go to another team? Just because the Twins didnt sign a big name FA in the offseason doesnt necessarily mean they didnt try. But I am a person who thinks the Twins will never sign a big names FA because throught most of the franchise history they have never done it. Its in their DNA. (although the Twins did give Joe Mauer about 17 Brinks trucks worth of money in his last contract) So I just dont get hot and bothered about it . Its something I cant really control. Its not like Im a shareholder in the Twins. Does that make me less of a Twins fan? I guess so.
  8. that was a odd tangent Bert was on. Its like he was telling stories that are normally 'off the record' or without names or anything. Good for Mike Redmond getting a managers job, but it sucks that he has to take gameday orders from Jeff Loria.
  9. they probably need time to clear off some seating sections. Is MLB scaling back Interleague play? This is only a 2 game series. Also, I wonder what game FSN is going to carry? the tv schedule says they were to carry the one tonight and no tv for the Tuesday noon game.
  10. Interesting, that hit n run with Dozier/Mauer was a straight steal and Mauer just swung at the pitch Minnesota Twins: Joe Mauer's groundout was not a hit-and-run - TwinCities.com
  11. I think the snowouts have affected his playing time. Both have come on 'getaway' games where Gardy likes to insert some of his bench players into the starting lineup.
  12. Vance Worley has a WHIP of 2.417 fun!
  13. I wonder how far in the Rolodex Mr. Heyman had to go to get a 'Gardy is on the hot seat' scoop. does this rumor come up every 4 days? sure seems like it.
  14. with the rainout today and a couple days off in the next 10 days, it makes sense to go with a 4 man rotation. Get Hendriks some work in Rochester and call him up again in 15 days. no big deal to me. Im not getting where the controversy is
  15. Jim Thome hit 7 home runs off Rick Reed that year. Thats gotta be a record
  16. Its hard to compare basketball and baseball but this Gardy situation kind of reminds me of the Tubby Smith situation. Smith was well liked by the national folks but the locals are bubbling up with angst because of mediocre to poor results, baffling offense/rotation, and at some points lack of fundamentals (cant break a press, a zone, or run a simple inbound play). Gardy with baffling lineups, an erosion of fundamentals from the players or the years, and 2 years of disappointment (and all those playoff failures) and the fanbase's cry for a change is getting louder.
  17. how about some Northwoods League games? It would probably lose some of its charm of small town minor league ball (I live close to Mankato and have been a few MoonDogs games and they put on a great show), but maybe a NWL showcase/All Star game.
  18. damn you, Metrodome roof!!!!
  19. the Twins never sign big time free agents (1991 excluded) so until they show that they will actually go out and sign people year after year, I never believe what comes out of the Front Office.
  20. according to baseball reference, Mike Mussina is on the ballot next year. stack Mussina next to Morris and the traditional stats say Mussina was a little bit better.
  21. I like Joe Webb But the Packer game shows that nothing changed from the last time he played (big arm, fast, very inaccurate, even more skittish than Ponder in the pocket). If he wasnt prepared to start last nights game, then he shouldnt be in the NFL because that is the job of a backup QB
  22. the last time Inge was a catcher was 2008. Its like saying a team should sign Michael Cuddyer because he is a great option to be a backup 3B
  23. last nights Joe Webb's performance goes to show that you need a QB who has the threat of completing a pass, even if its a dumpoff to the RB.
