  1. remember, the 1995 season was shortened because the 1994 strike lingered into the next season . The Twins were 30-56 and 30 games behind 1st place by August 1, headed for 88 losses in only 144 games played. Trading off veterans (even to save money with a payroll of roughly $25 mil) was the thing to do that year.
  2. would Tom Kelly like being in the booth for 150 games? something tells me he would rather be on the field instructing ballplayers, or at the dog track
  3. Cleveland is supposed to have an easy schedule the second half because they play the Twins a bunch of times. so far 0-2 the one thing in the Twins favor is that they play more home games than roadies during the months of August and September. Twins 23-23 at home, 18-30 on the road
  4. plus KC has beaten Detroit the last two games. If Cleveland plays passable defense, they are in first place right now.
  5. Scott Boras seems to think the Twins still like Parmelee. Minnesota Twins: Chris Parmelee demotion could help, agent says - TwinCities.com
  6. maybe he did in private? then if Gardy does say they suck in public, he will get accused of throwing players under the bus or not sticking up for them. I dunno, Im not overly worked up about this. Send them to Rochester, let them get into a good groove again, call them back up.
  7. Gardy said on his post gamer that Parm and Arcia needs swings and Escobar needs to play since he isnt here.
  8. more like Thomas was running perfectly ON the baseline. He was kicking up chalk on every stride. ridiculous call by Blue. But it happens every game the Twins play the Yanks.
  9. I think more attention needs to be paid to that Hicks throw. that one made me get out of my chair.
  10. maybe this thing will shake out like Rick Aguilera. Aggie was traded in the middle of the 95 season to the BoSox (for Frankie Rodriguez!) and then in the offseason sign as a free agent with the Twins. Later the Twins traded him and Scott Downs to the Cubs for Kyle Lohse
  11. it might be an NL East thing because the Twins are only 4-10 against that division this year
  12. I cant find it online, so I'll type it out: -- [i normally agree with Jim Souhan, but Sunday’s article defending Joe Mauer’s $23M salary borders on comical. Yes, relative to the other overpaid bums Souhan listed in his article, you could make an argument that Mauer is worth the money. However, when taking a peek at the numbers for the AL leaders in today’s paper, Mauer’s numbers are laughable! I thought it was Souhan who coined Mauer “the highest priced singles hitter in MLB history.” I think that is a more apt description. Yes, he plays decent defense and has a high on-base percentage, but his hitting numbers sound like those of a utility infielder at best.] --
  13. it was in the 'Letters to the Editor' thing the Strib has on Page2 of the dead tree edition.
  14. so, for those of us who know the name and heard the hype but thats about it, what does Gibson throw? What is a realistic expectation going forward?
  15. I think the contingency play is Swarzak or Pressly, bur they were burned up yesterday
  16. if the Twins send down Parmelee, who do they call up to rot away on the bench?
  17. I dunno, I guess I dont see 3 runs and 8 hits in 5+ innings as 'owned'. Twins had Klober on the ropes, but didnt get a clutch hit. It happens in baseball.
  18. I disagree with you about Kubler owing us. Twins have 2 HRs and have knocked the ball around pretty good. 97 walks in the first inning put a cannonball sized hole in the hull of the boat
  19. would have been great to score at least one more than inning
  20. I dont think the Twins are THE most surprising team, but they are A surprising team, if that makes sense.
  21. its up to 2 HR, and the one I saw was a second deck, (what seemed like a) 500 footer. When the Twins traded Liriano to the White Sox, he pretty much looked the same when he was with the Twins: got some strikeouts, walked people, and looked lost on the mound at times. Something has clicked in Pittsburgh so far and thats good for him, but Im not faulting the Twins for trading him. I guess Im just happy they actually got something in return for him instead of letting him go as a free agent.
  22. Bert with a 'dropping the barrel of the bat' and you know what, it actually applied !
  23. but, can he take professional at bats?
  24. first HR by a Twin since Pedro Florimon on Sunday night
