  1. Im a little concerned. But, whenever he gets on base, he does have a the good fortune to score a run: 19 hits, 10 walks, and he has crossed home plate 17 times (which is in the AL Top 10)
  2. Veteran team with a few youngsters sprinkled in. Good pitching and an owner who can buy some bullpen arms ( I always thought Gardy did a good job managing the bullpen, especially the front end/lesser quality arms). My money is on Detroit if Ausmus falters this year.
  3. through two weeks of the season, the AL Central has the 4 lowest pitcher strikeout totals in the AL 12. CHW 81 (12 games) 13. DET 77 (13 g) 14. KCR 75 (13 g) 15. MIN 63 (14 g) thats 5.4 k/9
  4. I hold the opinion that there are two different kinds of "Ace" pitchers. Is he the "Ace" of the Twins staff...yes. He is the guy I would want out there to get a win in a Game 163 situation. He is an overall "Ace" ... not in my book. I think of an Ace pitcher as one of those guy where you see his name and its strikes fear in you. Clayton Kershaw now, mid 2000s Johan, late 90s early 2000s Pedro Martinez, etc.
  5. After 5 games, lets take a look at the bottom of the AL team pitching strikeout table KCR 32 TOR 32 LAA 30 CHW 29 MIN 23
  6. For me, the bottom of the barrel is the 70ish innings the Twins gave Sean Bergman in 2000. Got paid $1.2 mil for that (He might have been the second highest paid player on that team behind Radke)
  7. I wouldnt even know where to begin to look for this information, but do we know how much Target Field debt is paid off? Are the Twins ahead of schedule?
  8. Ossie Bluege was a 18 year vet for the Washington Senators, then became a manager for the Sens, then became their Farm Director (he found Harmon Killebrew). In 1958 became their Comptroller, moved with the franchise to the Twin Cities and stayed on the job until 1971. Not to take away the subject at hand, but he was a pretty interesting fella. http://sabr.org/bioproj/person/2ef7f0d6 On the Twins website they list "Special Assistants" in the Administration heading. They include: Rod Carew, Kent Hrbek, Jack Morris, Tony Oliva, Bert Blyleven. But, Im guessing those names are more ceremonial than administrative.
  9. The Cleveland Browns history is different because there was lawsuits involved. Art Modell moved the team, paid off the city and had to leave its history at the city limits sign. That didnt happen with the Senators-Twins/New Senators-Texas Rangers. If anything, the Nationals latched onto the expansion Senators with the use of the curly W logo.
  10. What happened in 1989? He still got his hits (lead the league with 215), still got his doubles (career high 45) and even hit a few triples but is HR production went from 24 in 1988 to only 9. It took a few years for his HR totals to get back up into the 20s.
  11. Thanks for the write up.
  12. Buehrle is the perfect pitcher..... if Ron Gardenhire and Rick Anderson was still around. His style of pitching is what they preached all the time.
  13. Just a quick glace at manager hires, Joe Maddon was hired in on Nov 15 2005, John Gibbons Nov 20 2012, Mike Scoscia Nov 18 1999, Clint Hurdle Nov 14 2010. There are more mid November hires, but the list gets long.
  14. Are people 100% sure Molitor is going to be an old school, bunt/hit-n-run/, etc type manager? This article from January http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/66545260/hall-of-famer-paul-molitor-preparing-for-role-as-twin-coach To me, that says Molitor is willing to learn new things. I know the Twins didnt shift to much, or not as much as they wanted to coming out of Spring Training, this year but I think that comes from the fact the Twins pitcher allowed oodles of hits and that takes away from shifting opportunities. I'm not a smart enough baseball mind to know if that is true or not, but it what makes sense to me.
  15. Phil Hughes has 181 strikeouts this year. Kevin Correia only notched 162 in his time in a Twins uniform.
  16. he is from Washington state, but worked for the Pioneer Press covering the Twins in the 90's.
  17. Phil Hughes (102) has more strikeouts this season than the 2013 co-leaders Correia and Pelfrey (101)
  18. Anyone want to fill us people who dont follow the minors closely on Polanco? Defensive guy? Speed guy? Who is he.
  19. For me, the thing about Nolasco is that its few and far between he gets a quick inning. Most innings is a meat grinder for him and by the time the 5th inning rolls around he is cooked.
  20. Looks like Im in the minority, but I like Roy Smalley. He seems to do his homework, he follows along with the game action (what should the pitch be here? what kind of defense the play here. etc). The biggest drawback is that he loves his own voice and uses 5000 words to make his point. I like Tom Kelly in the booth too, but I dont think I could take 100 games of him.
  21. Will this injury affect Plouffe for the rst of the season just like injuries in past seasons?
  22. the last to do it was Mike Leake in 2010 Before that Xavier Nady in 2000
  23. What the Twins gained from moving from CCO to KSTP: the Hubbards paid them a million dollars AND all in house ad revenue (thus the Treasure Island Radio Network was born. The Twins kept all that sponsorship money. None of it to the Hubbards.) . And the Twins picked up a lot of affiliates to make up for the small signal of 1500. the KSTP stop was just a layover until the Pohalds figured out to streamline everything and out it on their own channel. Victory Sports One Radio. WCCO was never going to agree to to those kind of terms. (at that time, CBS owned stations were cutting back on sports coverage. KMOX/Cardinals was another CBS move). Im just glad I live in a part of Minnesota where I can pick up New Ulm or Mankato or a couple other distant AM stations.
  24. When you have to get 5 outs an inning because the defense is playing short stops in the OF and are misplaying balls, of course the numbers are going to look bad. Nolasco has not been great, but I would like to see him pitch with an actual major league defense behind him.
