  1. it seems hard to compare players in the NFL because style of play, and the players themselves (bigger, faster, more film study, etc), change so much. Todays game is so much different than when Jim Brown player. Hell, its different from when Barry Sanders retired 15 years ago.. To me, the conversation should be more like 'Will Adrian Peterson be an Inner Circle HOF player?'
  2. the home batting practice hats are cool, but are the Twins are usually done with batting practice before the gates open
  3. He lost me when he was throwing out 'oh yeah, Mauer would be fine with a permanent move to 1B.' when Mauer has said over and over he wants to be a catcher. Just another article about an East Coast team needing to make a big move in the offseason.
  4. ahh. shouldnt there be a ruling by some third party arbitrator to decide what the standard formula should be?
  5. I got a qustion about WAR. Baseball-Reference has Mike Trout at a WAR of 10.7 and Fangraphs and 10.0. Why are the numbers different? There has been a lot of mockery of baseball writers for not accepting the new way of number crunching and voting Miggy because he won a Triple Crown and using 'traditional' stats. Well, how are the old guard supposed to come into the new way of thinking if no one can get the numbers right? Im not against the new way of thinking about baseball (although there are so many stats out there, its a bits overwhelming).
  6. Robbie Inc seemed like a decent dude, but I never enjoyed his live interviews. They seemed so awkward
  7. I guess it all depends on how much salary the Marlins are willing to eat. But Buehrle is the ultimate 'Twins pitcher' (soft tosser, no walks, works fast)
  8. I was not a big fan of the 'Deep Twins Thought' commercials last year. I cant remember if they ran any other ad campaign (The Bert/puppets singing ad was for the Minnesota State Lottery). As for why these people were let go, it probably boils down to the higher ups wanted to go in a different direction.
  9. they do. Its called the Hank Aaron Award
  10. you would think the Twins would want a team in Iowa instead of St Paul just because it expands the Twins 'brand'. The Twins have a strong following in Southern Minnesota (Austin, Albert Lea, Rochester) and have a few radio affiliate in N. Iowa (Mason City comes to mind). Expanding 'Twins Territory' out a little further to Ceder Rapids makes sense to me.
  11. agreed. In Mankato, the long time Twins affiliate KTOE recently put up an FM simulcast of their AM station and listening to Twins game on the FM is awesome. The sound is crisp, it almost puts you at the ballpark. While its no shock the Pohlads took the Twins to their own station, its somewhat shocking they are walking away from a sweetheart deal Hubbard was giving them ($1 mil per year, and the Twins kept all monies from advertising during the game). Where I live, I can barely pick up 1500 (they need an affiliate network like what KFAN has) but I still listen to it more than I listen to the FAN.
  12. few good ones mentioned already..how about JD 'the real deal' Durbin, or Luis Ayala. Man, Dusty Hughes was some kind of awful last year. Jason Marquis was worse than Nick Blackburn. And Adam Johnson was pretty terrible for a #2 overall draft pick.
  13. 4 D's with De Vries
  14. Mauer 53 walks Willingham 52 walks both are on the AL Leaderboard in walks. I didnt think Willingham had that many. Mauer has been great, but Willingham is sure making teams pay for letting the 1-3 batters get on (76 RBI so far) and should get a few votes too.
  15. its July 16th, and the Twins run differential is -101 the Houston Astros are the next lowest at -78 the next lowest American League team is Baltimore at -43
  16. it probably wouldnt hurt to mail that same letter to someone in the Twins Front Office. Maybe if enough support building among the ballclubs, Selig will have to give in and change the blackout rules.
  17. re Mastrionni not Doumit hitting in the 9th: the only thing I can think of is that Gardy wanted to use Span as a pinch runner if Mauer (which happened) or Willingham got on. And its not like Doumit has been tearing it up against LHP's this year (13 hits in 63 plate appearances) in the end, it all worked out, so horray.
