  1. I think Mauer's years as a .300 hitter are done. He should be moved toward the back of the lineup where Suzuki is hitting. As others have pointed out, more balls will be caught in LF with Willingham's departure, no matter who plays out there. Also, a number of balls have been misplayed due to the extra padding on the outfield walls. The newly padded walls should give the Twins a marginal home field advantage because the bounce is now difference from most other outfield walls. Also, the Twins need better fans. They should support this young, exciting team no matter what the record is. The Twins now have the pitchers to compete in 2015. I would take Gibson, Nolasco, Milone, Pelfrey, May & Meyer and put them on notice that they have a 2 bad game limit. 2 bad games and they go to the bullpen and the next pitcher is brought in. This would be true for Hughes too if he starts out badly. Molitor was supposed to help baserunning and bunting, and both have been terrible this year. I see no reason to continue Molitor's employment in 2015.
  2. September - .241/.313/.345, .3SB, 3/8 BB/K Small Sample Size. 1 game makes a big difference.
  3. After these recent games it is easy to be pessimistic. This team is very young and is learning in the majors. There are many reasons to be positive. May pitched a Quality start today with 10 strikeouts. Perkins got the save. The young guys continued to get key hits. Plouffe got a homer. Its easy to be critical, but this team gives us lots of reason to hope for next year.
  4. Some bad fielding has led to some losses. Some bad relief has led to some losses, but mostly, in my opinion, it has been bad pitching that has led to the bad pitching. -Gibson has shown his inexperience and immaturity. -Nolasco has not been physically OK, however, I was satisfied with his last outing. -Milone has had a dead arm and should be OK for the rest of the season. -May is overwhelmed, but is showing some improvement. None of this can be attributed to Anderson. Different players mature at different rates. The Twins have been unlucky.
  5. Thank you for the calculations. Converting them to .500 AB makes it easier to compare them. The numbers confirm what we have seen from Santana. However our eyes have told us that Santana is not as good a SS as E Escobar. Schafer has not been here a month. I'd like to see what the numbers say when the season is over. Pinto confirmed in AAA that he is a hitter and he should get regular AB in 2015. These numbers show us that Mauer could easily sit more so that Vargas can play 1B and Pinto can DH. Although Arcia's numbers do not look so great, the Angels intentionally walked him twice. Numbers don't tell us everything.
  6. This September will tell us a lot about next year's starting rotation. Nothing that Nolasco does for the rest of 2014 makes any difference. Even If Nolasco has no good starts, he will probably be in the rotation anyway, because of the contract. If Milone has no good starts, he will probably still get a chance to be in the rotation with a good spring training. If Milone has a few good starts in September he is a lock to be in the rotation next year because he is a lefthander. If May has no good starts, he'll probably start in AAA, even if he has a good Spring Training. If May has a few good starts, he may still end up in AAA or the Twins bullpen if another candidate has a better Spring Training. However, I would not be surprised if the Twins trade for a pitcher from one of the teams with a homer friendly ballpark such as Cincinnati's Mike Leake.
  7. NO! Molitor has been the roving baserunning coach for 8 years and is the current baserunning coach. He obviously has not been very successful.
  8. Too much terrible baserunning. Molitor has to go.
  9. Given the Twins terrible baserunning and the terrible baserunning from the called up minor leaguers, I think Molitor is a no-brainer to be fired. I have never understood why people think he would be an effective manager, given his shortcomings as a coach.
  10. Jason Kanzler is my nominee. He has moved up from Extended Spring Training to Cedar Rapids and now is starting in CF for the Miracle. His slash line in CR was very good .286 .334 .448 .782 His batting average has fallen off some in the FSL but is still good. .267 .376 .430 .806
  11. I notice lots of little problems when Santana plays SS. I think EE is a much better fielder.
  12. This is too good 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E Fort Myers (2-0) 0 0 0 Daytona (0-2) 0 0 0 Pitching: Dorris (DAY); <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<, Batting: Mejia (FTM) HR: None.
  13. Gardenhire, every day, every time, in every way.
  14. go here to keep track of the MiL playoffs http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?cid=&lid=&org=142&sc=&sid=milb&t=affiliate&ymd=20140905
  15. Today's Mike Berardino article in the Pioneer Press was very interesting. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_26469210/twins-pitcher-tommy-milone-will-skip-next-start "He gets to the latter part of the season, right around 150 innings, and his throwing shoulder starts to wear down on him." The Twins call it shoulder fatigue. "That's what happened with the Oakland A's in 2012, when Milone skipped a start on Aug. 10 after going 0-3 with a 7.58 earned run average in his previous three starts. After that breather, Milone finish out a 31-start season by going 4-1 with a 3.26 ERA in his final nine starts." You know how Bert always talks about having a "dead arm" period during the season? This is another example.
  16. LOL who was griping about Nunez being in the lineup tonight ? LOL
  17. Come on Kennys. Now is the time for another long fly
  18. I figure 5 pitches per out = a decent chance to the 7th inning. So far (despite the self-inflicted runs) Gibson has thrown 73 pitches in 5 innings. It is also important to have a quick inning after a terrible one
  19. Fort Myers winning 2-0 in the 6th Cedar Rapids winning 1-0 in the 4th
  20. Now we'll see if we have the Good Gibson or the Bad Gibson tonight. 4th inning, second time through the batting order.
  21. Gibson should do well in the 3rd. Still the first time through the batting order.
  22. I heard heard he floated down the Apple River
  23. Reward Nunez for his good game yesterday. Santana has not had a day off in a long time. Even young legs get tired.
  24. If Sano and/or Buxton perform well in AA next year, don't be surprised if the Twins do with them, what they did with Vargas this year... bring them up. Plouffe should start practicing playing LF as soon as possible (if he's not already.)
  25. Go here to follow the Cedar Rapids game http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2014_09_04_cedafx_burafx_1&t=g_box&sid=t492
