  1. Escobar is hitting doubles. 32 doubles at last count and tied with Plouffe. This means his BABIP is going to be higher than the average slap hitter. This also indicates that Escobar's hitting improvement is likely to be permanent. He is unlikely to face a "Sophomore Jinx" like Santana may next season. Escobar has earned the starting SS job until he proves his 2014 play is a fluke.
  2. Trade Dozier ? The goal for every hitter is to produce runs. Dozier produces more runs than any other Twin. I doubt any team can trade us a player that will be equal to what Dozier does for the Twins. ... and next year Dozier will be better
  3. The difference between '14 and other years is that we know we have 2 solid starters going into 2015 and we have a 3rd (Nolasco) we have no choice but to start (barring injury). That leaves us with 2 pitchers to distinguish themselves in the last 40 days. Like you say. The 2015 starting rotation may already be set.
  4. The umpires zone will continue to be a problem until MLB lets technology call balls and strikes. Without umpires calling balls and strikes, batters with a good eye will be rewarded and pitchers with good control will be rewarded. You will find that flame throwers will lose their value and "pitchers" will gain value, and probably batting averages, hits and runs will all rise.
  5. Young arms need protecting. Protecting Kohl is the right thing to do. Nick Burdi, on the other hand, is not so young, and i would love to see him fast tracked directly to the Twins in September.
  6. The Red Wing has 7 former Twins in the lineup. Hicks, Pinto, Florimon, Colabello, Hermann, Wilken Ramirez & Doug Bernier. Also Pino, Darnell & Johnson have all started for the Twins. They should be in the AAA playoff
  7. I don't understand why people say his skills play more to being a utility man and a backup? He is 25 now. He was only 23 when he came to the Twins in the trade for Liriano. He was the Gold Glove SS in his Winter League this winter. If E Escobar had enough AB, he would rank in the top 10 SS based on OPS. He has 32 doubles, tied for first amongst all SS and tied for 10th in the MLB. Just because he has the ability to play 2b, 3b & OF, does not mean that he should play anywhere but SS for the Twins for a long long time.
  8. Trade Dozier ? A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush ? Trade Dozier ? You probably want TR to retire and Gardy fired too
  9. Good f**king riddance to a lousy game
  10. Vasquez started and pitched only 2 innings of no hit ball before he was replaced. Could he start for the Twins on Saturday ? http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?cid=&lid=&org=142&sc=&sid=milb&t=affiliate&ymd=20140819
  11. I hate that. I hate that. I hate that. I am no longer going to defend Duensing. I hate that.
  12. Thanks. It does indicate who should be batting 3rd/
  13. The stat I like best is RP {Runs Produced) or RP/AB. Its the old quick and dirty way to see who is really producing for a Team. The formula is Runs + RBI - HR. You can do it in your head when looking at player stats. Runs Created is the current stat in favor. Wikipedia has a good description of it for those who want to go blind with formula http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runs_created For a quick look-see of how are players are doing compared to other hitters, RP works just fine.
  14. 3rd time thru the batting order. May is his own worst inning. Only 1 93mph pitch, I think. Whats so special about him ?
  15. Pray for May. He has done nothing to give us hope.
  16. If you think that Gardenhire recently discovered fangraphs then you probably also believe that Gardy is to blame for the Twins awful record since 2011
  17. Eddie Rosario, the last 10 games. 40 4 12 1 7 4 12 1 .300
  18. I hope the Twins make NO effort to sign Cuddyer in the off season. It would only fuel the anti-Ryan faction and block the advancement of Vargas and Pinto.
  19. Starting from mid-2011 the Twins have had to completely rebuild their starting rotation. There was no point in investing heavily until the Twins had a competitive lineup. Last winter they invested in starting pitching, with mixed results. They'll play the rest of the year with the starters that will probably be the 2015 rotation. Nobody should be surprised if August and September are the first +.500 months for the Twins in 2014 and they should be a contender in 2015. Yes, I am an optimist.
  20. I hope we see Vargas batting 4th and Arcia batting 5th for a long long time
  21. I hate strikeouts. If a player has the power of Arcia or Vargas, they can cut down their swings to avoid strikeouts and still hit plenty of home runs.
  22. Cuddyer was hurt and Span replaced him. Span was hurt and Revere replaced him. In real life it all depends on the quality of the replacement.
  23. THE Twins are about the future, about development. If the Twins were to sign Cabrera or another Free Agent Shortstop, what would they be saying? We don't believe Escobar has improved with age and experience ? Santana had a fluke year so we don't trust him to continue to play well next year ? I, for one, would be extremely upset with Ryan if that were to happen.
  24. To me, it is fairly simple. 1) Assuming Santana plays well for the rest of 2014, he bats first and plays somewhere every day in 2015. 2) Assuming Escobar plays well for the rest of 2014, he is the Twins starting SS in 2015. 3) They have invested 2014 in Arcia. His at bats have not been earned by his stats, but by his potential. Barring injuries, Arcia should play every day through 2015. At that time he will have about 1200 at bats. We should have a fair idea of what kind of player Arcia is by then: An average fielder with a power bat. 4) The 4th outfielder should be speedy, with some power and mentally strong enough to be a pinch hitter, pinch runner & be able to play Center Field. Sam Fuld was perfect.
