  1. "I envision him being a future starter. I don't know why he can't be a starter in the major leagues," He (Ryan) continued, "He's got the pitches. He's got the strength. He's shown he can do it......" ...... because you don't let him start! Sometimes...... sometimes I wonder if Ryan even hears himself.
  2. I think the original question was about considering a starting staff full of 3-5's "pretty good". I also think think that that KC's bullpen (and defense and offense) was far more the reason they could win a World Series than the starting staff. The Twins' didn't even try to step up the pen..... one might even say they made "a-bad" addition to try to get there.
  3. YUK! And I don't mean funny "yuk". So much for coming to camp in better shape and ready for the season.
  4. A rotation made up of self rated 3-5's, and that is a pretty good rotation? I am sure glad my standards and hopes have not been converted by endless mediocrity into talking myself into thinking that a rotation of 3-5s is a pretty good rotation.
  5. Here's to May becoming the Twins' "Wade Davis". At least they aren't jerking him around anymore, which is what they were doing. When the team is constructed with out of position players asked to do something that they were not groomed to do, one can only hope for surprises and that things go better than expected.
  6. Were these in minor league games? simulated? intrasquad?
  7. It is only supposed to happen if you are a coward, and believe in throwing a baseball at a person just standing there, and you are a poor sport about serving up the cheese. There is never a good reason to throw a baseball at a batter, unless you are a coward. I guess that would be the unwritten definition of a coward.
  8. Tonkin seems never quite ready, including this Spring Training. I really hate to see him getting the opportunities that could go to others that pitch so much better in their opportunities. Especially with the stable of young arms in the system, and the retreads that Ryan continues to clog the pipeline with that take their opportunities, too. Tonkin should have been hyped and traded long ago, before he has proven to be one that has a best chance of getting paid to his ceiling in Japan or Korea.
  9. .... and the right field fence sure has to look good to Morneau.
  10. Exactly. Well, most of his minor league career, some pretty bad stretches aside. Yup. It sure would be nice for it to show up tout de suite. Exactly.
  11. It sure will be nice when Buxton actually hits...... or walks.... or just gets on base somehow. All those tools they are still in the toolbox.
  12. One at bat short...... milking the prospect status. I hear he is supposed to be good. We will see. I hope that doesn't mean Alex Meyer good. I hear he is supposed to be real good, too.
  13. I like that there is no talk of the sabermatician's favorite prediction... regression. Opps.
  14. I call BS on a rebuild. There never was a rebuild. ....and seriously........ how long do we all have to keep seeing, over and over, that picture of nick punto's nipples and shaved chest? Are all nipples now allowed on TD? Playboy takes them away and TD gives them?
  15. I had to chuckle reading the MLB articles as Bollinger uses "Ace" in his sub-headline (and also misreports that Sano had three walks), and new guy Ian Browne writes "ace Phil Hughes". You know, no matter what Hughes does in ST, I expect his April to be the usual awful, as only once in his whole career has he performed well the opening month of the season, and that includes his "ace" year in 2014. ST might not be the indicator you are looking for. We might have to wait until May to find out.
  16. Ha. Some things don't ever seem to change, even in Spring Training. Twins' pitchers manage all of 3 strikeouts, while the hitters are in mid-season form with 11 K's
  17. I can't see the Twins, but with 15 teams using 10 ballparks all in the megaslopolis around Phoenix, the Cactus League is a great place to land for a baseball fan as well, and the road games are not affected like in Florida. http://www.cactusleague.com/map.php
  18. He seems happy to accept the ruling. Being able to become a Free Agent must be the kicker for him to not appeal as he said he would. I wonder what would have happened if the suspension had been for 46 or more games and delayed that for a year. "Today, I accepted a 30-game suspension from Major League Baseball resulting from my actions on Oct. 30, 2015," Chapman said in a prepared statement. "I want to be clear, I did not in any way harm my girlfriend that evening. However, I should have exercised better judgment with respect to my actions, and for that I am sorry. The decision to accept a suspension, as opposed to appealing one, was made after careful consideration. I made this decision in an effort to minimize the distractions that an appeal would cause the Yankees, my new teammates and most importantly, my family. I have learned from this matter, and I look forward to being part of the Yankees' quest for a 28th World Series title. Out of respect for my teammates and my family, I will have no further comment."
  19. Looks like Dozier doesn't like the new rule regarding stepping on the bag. Form an article on MLB.com Twins site....... "Dozier, who started his career as a shortstop before moving to second base in 2013, said he's in favor of the rule that forces players to make a "bona fide slide" into second base, but he believes that reviews to make sure middle infielders touch second base while turning double plays is against the spirit of the original rule." What? touching the base on a force out is against the spirit of the rule.... even the rules before this new one? What? NOT touching the base and getting an out.... that is what is against the spirit of the rules.
  20. Morneau's slide would still be legal under the new rule. He went straight into second base. He surely started his slide a bit later than he could have, and clearly wanted to disrupt the second baseman, but he did not alter his path and slid right into the base and it looks to me like he could clearly stay in contact. The second baseman was held up by the throw, but this is a fair and good slide even by the new and improved rule. It goes to show you that when you purposely behave to make contact in a not contact sport and stretch the "spirit of the game" intentions, that instant karma can get you when you least expect it. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/0/v9761163/min-tor-morneau-leaves-the-game-after-getting-hurt
  21. Are we just ignoring this last part of the new rule? ".....and not changing his path for the purpose of initiating contact with a fielder." Why else did he do that awkward slide that took him longer to get to the base? Why would anyone throw their legs out there if not to avoid a player with the ball..... instead of make hard contact with him? He changed his path for the purpose of initiating contact with a fielder. He went out of his way to make contact. Pretty simple.
  22. First Sano is athletic enough to play outfield for the first time ever as his first position in the show, and now in the same breath he isn't athletic enough to play third now and then to keep him familiar with what he has always played and prepared for....... because that would confuse him? Hmmmmmmmm. Molitor said he's most concerned with Sano staying healthy....... "I think his body type concerns me in that, 'Are we going to be able to keep him on the field?'" Molitor said. "I wouldn't say he's an injury-prone guy, but he's a big-muscled guy. It's going to be a demanding thing for him to get out there and run around, and coming on and off the field nine times a day, it's going to be an adjustment. I think we're going to have to try to monitor him and how he's doing handling the demands of what being an outfielder is going to be." Poor athletic Sano. Having to come on and off the field nine times a day. And god forbid that the game goes into extra innings. Can he possibly make that adjustment? I don't know how a 22 year old will manage. Such demands.
  23. In basketball... that would be a flagrant 2 foul. No intention to really go for the base. The intention was to kick the legs of the player on the fly. Also, he was already out. Like tackling a player when he is already out of bounds. Cowardly. Good Riddance. Let's play baseball and keep the talent on the field.
  24. It's about time. And make sure you step on the base with the ball in hand. No more cowardly take out slides. I love it.
  25. I always have to laugh when folks think that one would perform better if they are in worse condition. It is even more comical if that person is thinking that about himself. Congrats to Graham. No need ever to carry a bunch of extra fat around if you can get rid of it.
