  1. But that is why the formula is so wonderful. Take a guy that is show ready, and trade him for someone that takes a lot more time and painful years perhaps, to be show ready themselves. Hope and dreams is a fine place to live.
  2. Can't just go to Rogers for a 4 out save here, eh? Very dangerous to give Robles an inherited runner...... Hell, dangerous to give anyone on the staff an inherited runner....
  3. But Alcala is going to be soooooo gooood! All that stuff! He will become Pressly one day, you know. Might take years and years, but don't judge that trade yet! And all that team control. We can have that unrealized potential around until it finally starts to maybe happen and then trade him for prospects and wait years again for the trade to prove itself as worthwhile. The new Twins Way.
  4. Thanks for this. Awesome stuff.
  5. Ah, the ol' passing the blame...... and left out the other s, too, apparently. ?
  6. But Pressly, maybe. No indication that he wouldn't have, either.
  7. Ryan Pressly. Pressly, Pressly, Pressly! NOT PRESSLEY. (And Duffey, NOT Duffy! But that is another story.....) Thanke you (and I have no idea who Colombe is - Alex Colome?Danny Coulombe?). Use all the stats and limits and unlimited years (regarding prospects) you want. I am totally bummed watching players we traded (and could have re-signed instead for more years) or just let go helping other teams while the guys we got age out in the minors and when they get here are 25 and older and still not ready for the show. I have no faith in our FO rental. They are doing what they do for money, and would bail for more in a flash. And that's the way it is, July 8, 2021.............
  8. "With my first pitch in the bottom of the sixth I aimed straight at the front leg of their first hitter, Jesús Sucre. Nailed him good, just above the left knee. I’ve got nothing against Sucre personally. It was Cash I was pointing to and yelling at when the home plate umpire threw me out of the game: “That’s for you, b—-!” They were trying to punk us. When the Rays came out on the field, pushing and shoving and acting tough, I yelled, “You got something to say about me hitting Bauers when he could have got out of the way, come out here and talk about it!” None of them said a f—ing word. Did I know at the time that getting tossed could cost me $500,000 because I would end the season two innings short of a bonus in my contract? Sure. I didn’t care. Did I think about the fact that this might be the way I left the field for the final time – because there was no guarantee I’d get a start in the playoffs, and my contract was coming to an end? Nope. It wouldn’t have been the way I’d choose to go out, but if that was my exit, it would have been fine with me. Because you always protect your boys. You need to keep protecting them until your opponents get the message — and until your own guys understand what’s up. The way the Rays tried to tell it – “Oh, we got young pitchers, they’re just trying to throw inside, sometimes it gets away from them” — well, our guys are young, too. They’re talented, but they’re young. They don’t know what it looks like when a pitcher is deliberately throwing at a batter. They wonder, “Oh, did he do it on purpose, blah, blah, blah?” After the game, after Kittredge almost killed Romine, Didi talked to guys he knows on the Rays, asking if they threw at Romine on purpose. Get the f— out of here! I know what that s— looks like. People thought I’d lost my mind when I hit Sucre, got ejected, and started screaming at the Tampa Bay dugout. Nope. Oh, I was mad, but I knew exactly what I was doing. People call that kind of thing old-school baseball; they mean it as a compliment, and I appreciate it. Those same people complain about guys doing bat flips after hitting a big home run. Bat flips don’t bother me. You beat me? Fine. Celebrate. You’re worried about the guy flipping his bat? Worry about throwing a better f—ing pitch! If you don’t want to see someone pimp a home run, don’t give it up. And when I beat you, when I strike you out with the bases loaded, I get to dance and yell. If you don’t want to see me yelling and cussing as I walk off the mound, don’t strike out. Simple rules. We’re not showing each other up. We’re enjoying the moment. Baseball is boring too much of the time. The game needs to change, and I don’t mean using more data to shift guys on the infield. I’m talking about the way people say, “He played the game the right way” when what they mean is “He played it the white way.” What they mean is they don’t like the flair that Black and Hispanic guys bring to the field." Wow. So childish. He really loses me about throwing at a batter. Nothing honorable about it. Totally and always, unacceptable. I agree with him about celebration, though. All celebration should be embraced. But it isn't, and has never been, white or black. It has been celebrators and non-celebrators, regardless of color. Josh Donaldson is an example. This makes me not like Pineda much, at all. And I hear what he is saying. I just disagree. The most cowardly thing that happens on a baseball field is when a pitcher purposely throws at a batter. That is assault, pure and simple, and it is way way overdue to start calling it that and it should not be protected behavior as "part of the game." Men being babies, that is what it is. Old school? So was owning people, whether it was as a servant, or men "owning" their wife. And that was never ever acceptable either. And neither is throwing a ball at someone at 90+ mph, and then gloating about it. But then, even on TD, it seems to be acceptable to at least half if not more.
  9. I guess since deGrom got rained out tonight, someone had to get "deGrom'ed" instead of deGrom. Two walks with a wet ball and a slippery mound in the light rain, and a plate umpire that takes his sweet time to call the third strike so the catcher has to throw to second just in case. Simmons should have had that throw from Jeffers, anyway - and he even had another error in the game. Sano is not getting any smarter. I don't know what to say to those that think Berrios is not the best we have. A team does not get better to trade the best they have. We are not a better team with Alcala and Celestino instead ofAll-Star Pressly right now, and we won't be without Berrios. What do you want? More prospects you can call up and have play sloppy, and pitchers that are already 25 and older and still aren't ready? - because that is what our minor league system seems to culture. And our MLB staff now, too. Hell, bring in free agents and they get worse! All those prospect hope and dreams will do is get immersed in the system, and we see how ready they are when they get here. They make mistakes that should be figured out by that time they are in high school or college. May as well blame Garver, too, just for good measure. He had to have been doing something wrong even if he is on the IL. ? And Colome. Seriously Baldelli? Colome?
  10. He sure looked like an All-Star in Monday's game against the Sox!
  11. Every time someone writes about Rogers, they leave out the most important stat for a reliever. Inherited Runners Scored. Relief. When a pitcher comes in and lets most of the runners on base score (and with Rogers, it has more than once been on his first pitch!), that is not my idea of "relief". Those runs all go to his teammates, and he gets by scott free on his numbers. To ignore that when talking about Rogers this year is unsound and cloaks the true story.
  12. I like watching KC play. Soler scores from first on a double, and yesterday, was it, Arraez made it from second to third on Donaldson's double, Our forte is certainly not on the base paths. KC is fun to watch on the bases. They run.
  13. A broken arm is never worth the risk of reaching into the runner, regardless. One out is not worth a broken arm in my book. But blame Sano. May as well. Not really the point of the post, but sure, our first baseman could have perhaps saved the play. Wherever the defense failed, it failed Jax.
  14. Jax could have very well given up no runs in the 4th, IF we had someone on third that makes a decent throw, and IF we have a center fielder that doesn't miss his jump on the ball..... but versatility doesn't necessarily mean decent defense, and in Jax's surrounding defense now, it certainly doesn't. And now Celestino gets in the action....
  15. Time for Jose Miranda. He is already in St. Paul, so can be added at any time now.
  16. Jeffers should have caught that - seemed to be shy about the impending danger of the rail, but I would take that bet in a heartbeat. Alas, we will never know as Astudillo is batting under .200 in St. Paul.
  17. That sure was a fine curveball that the umpire missed.
  18. Check this. Ohtani's first inning tonight. He walked the bases loaded, followed by a couple singles, a strikeout and a ground out, a HBP, and a walk. With 4 runs in, the bases loaded and two outs, the top of the order coming up again, Maddon had had enough, and replaced him with former Twin, Aaron Slegers, who only needed one out to provide the relief that is his purpose and reason for being in the game. Slegers promptly gave up a bases clearing double on his second pitch to DJ LeMahieu, and all 3 inherited runners scored. I guess it doesn't matter if you are a current Twin, or a past Twin, this is not your year for giving up inherited runs, and it only takes one or two pitches. The Yankees led 8-4 into the top of ninth, but now Chapman walks the bases loaded, and then gives up a grand slam to Walsh! The Angels score 7 in the 9th and win it, 11-8. 19 runs Braves 20-Mets 2 , 22 runs, Brewers 15-Cubs 7, 22 runs, Nats 15-Rays 6, 21 runs, Marlins 11-Phillies 6, 17 runs. 16 runs scored in the 13-3 butchering of our Twins, and it doesn't even make the top 5 in runs scored in a game today. And pitchers all over the place are not finding their command. Unless they perhaps, don't throw it so hard...........? trouble with grip? Anyway, that doesn't explain why our Twins only got 5 hits........
  19. The five year old flipping his bat/stick (was he lefty then, or is the film just flipped)at 5:50 is classic.
  20. I wish we were getting 4 of his best seasons, and there is still time, I guess, for a couple. Cruz is a believer of strong seasons in the late 30s (and 40s so far). I wish he would hire a full time leg masseuse or messeur or PT person to travel with him and keep his legs fit to perform at his peak and not get hurt. But aside from that, I like Donaldson. I find it funny that there is an article like this disparaging all of these guys. I guess anything is fair game in seasons like this. I like interesting complex personalities. I like bite and creativity. And he is saying the truth. I like folks celebrating and having fun and getting in umpires' faces. Most of the time they deserve it. I liked Pierzynski. Funny guy. Real funny. Lynn would be my recent least favorite, and not because I am judging hearsay news about him.... he just was horrible on this team, to me his body language seemed like he didn't like it here, and he mailed it in. I bet Donaldson doesn't have any boring friends.
  21. Don't we see stuff like that daily on ESPN with all the little baseball fields and football fields and basketball courts and the overweight ex-pro-athletes demonstrating? I would not watch a bunch of fat old guys trying to hit home runs.
