  1. OK. I just figure that anybody's performance to date counts. Anything projected is something that a jury is not allowed to consider. A jury can only consider something that happens. What May did happened, and counts. Meyer can't be considered yet. Years after Span has been helping the Nats, Meyer still hasn't happened. Nolasco - yup, that 2014 performance really really happened. All year it happened. That is the thing about most things in baseball. It all counts.
  2. I don't understand why Nolasco and May are not included in the terrible decisions by Ryan. Both are the direct result of the Terry Ryan genius.... Nolasco by free angency and May by trade of the last centerfielder at the time....... in fact, Worley should be in there, too. It sure is a shame that Worley appears to have been totally mismanaged and coached, after his performance bookends in Pittsburgh and Philly (maybe the Pennsylvania factor?) Terry should be fired now, before the new manager is selected, and the new GM should get to decide that. The second best thing that could happen now, is that Ryan picks the new manager, and then retires gracefully.
  3. do you think anyone would see him? maybe it would teach him to look?
  4. That would be great for him to go to the Rangers. I think his future is limited, as he has not embraced changes in the game well - changes in the personalities of the younger players, the newer analytics, platooning, and playing people in position - but he deserves to see if he can manage to success without inheriting a team that was set up for it before he takes the helm. I am pretty confident some team is going to buy the kool aid and give him a shot. nicksaviking makes some great points about the value he may have suffered the last 4 years. If he goes to Texas, maybe he will do the Twins a favor and take fellow Oklahoman, Mike Pelfrey, with him.
  5. It's about time! Years later than it should have happened, but at least done. Having Ryan fire him does not bode well for getting a new GM, too, at this time. That is the only bad news about this development.
  6. The change has to be the general manager and the manager. Immediately if not sooner. I can't even bring myself to type the names. Do it right now, still during the season to get more press. Set Molitor as interim manager, and don't be in a hurry, but get out there first for all the prospects that could take the positions. This needed to happen years ago. It is more than time. Do it now. Today.
  7. Folks like to point out that Pelfrey had a "good stretch", and hope that he can do that for a whole year. Unfortunately, the good stretch is rare for the man throughout his career. Pelfrey would fit in as a car dealer in Oklahoma, though. Aw shucks.
  8. It boggles my mind to read that defensive metrics rate the top three first basemen defensively to be Pujols, Cabrerra, and Mauer. Twins fans seem to love Dozier's defense and have disdain for Plouffe's. These ratings show that however the results are arrived at, the formula for these metrics leave a lot to be desired to come up with these results.
  9. Gardenhire is not even playing Santana at short while Escobar is out! We have centerfielders playing right and left and a shortstop in center. Santana should get all the starts at shortstop for the rest of the year. Put either Hicks or Schafer in center, and Nunez can play left or right as well as Santana plays center, and they are all in the game if that is what Gardenhire is trying to accomplish. Personally, I don't get it at all, and he said a few weeks ago that he wanted to see Santana at short. Actions speak a lot louder than words, always.
  10. It was thought that Pelfrey would be all systems go for 2014. This is a repeat of the mistake made with Matt Capps. Yup. Best to try to trade him in the off season and get going with the future. Put Pelfrey on the market and shop him incessantly. If he is as good as supporters hope, it should be an easy deal to make. He will be traded next year at some point, anyway. It is just a matter of how insignificant the return will be.
  11. It has been time for the big change since 2007. It is already 7 years late. Yes..... change the management immediately if not sooner.
  12. Relax, Jose Berrios.......... it is just Rochester, not the show. No biggy. I don't get why Pryor isn't getting a look. Even just a few innings. Yeah.... the surgery. That didn't stop him pitching in AAA. Let's see how he does.
  13. I recently saw a video of him hitting in the cage. He looked to be free swinging.
  14. Buxton surprises me. To have the most valuable prospect play in a league that is not directly under the parents control.... especially in the post concussion period ...... it surprises me. Here I am, thinking Buxton is too fragile to play baseball, and is just going to get hurt. I guess it will take at least a full year where he can stay on the field to have that change now.
  15. Young Kohl just got tired again fast. Third pick of 2014, Carlos Rodon, now in AAA, looks like he will be brought to the show in September for the White Sox, fast tracked like Sale in 2010. I wonder if he is tired?
  16. I'll bet every hitter wishes you could just throw out all the strikeouts and then calculate the stats. That was a brave thing for Arcia to say while playing for the Minnesota Twins.
  17. Why are minor league professional teams playing 7 inning games. High A is not little league. I can maybe understand it for double headers, but not ever for single games. And to be completely honest, I can't even see the point in double headers. This is professional baseball. Baseball is a 9 inning game.
  18. In all the baseball I have followed since 1961, I have never seen a farm system win a World Series.
  19. I like Miami's direction a lot better. And look how fast it happened. And they have Redmond instead of Gardenhire.
  20. Garvers's main nemesis may be that he was drafted in the 9th round instead of the 3rd. It is like the pundits (management) choosing the best college teams for the polls. They won't let you past the competition because they already picked you better, even if perhaps you become better, which might have meant, you were better to begin with and the pickers just didn't see it. His bat should take him past Turner. You aren't a finalist for the Johnny Bench award if you don't have a fine glove and throw. Turner is proof of that as well. Thanks for the article on the young men that should become the next Twins' catchers after the transition years of Suzuki. Pinto should be traded.
  21. So if the Twins don't bring Meyer up this year, what is to say they won't be motivated to not bring him up until july of 2015? The same playing time, super 2, arbitration, and control arguments fit every year. I guess Will Middlebrooks should be the Twins GM. Then it would happen.
  22. It wouldn't shock me either, if the Twins let Meyer finish out in Triple-A. But it would very much upset me. I hear all the reasons, and disagree. Tell me that Alex doesn't want to give it a shot, and I wouldn't believe it unless I heard him say it, and then I probably wouldn't believe it. Who cares if he taxes the bullpen now? Really? Anybody? Even the taxed bullpen would want to see Meyer and May pitch. 3 or 4 starts, immediately if not sooner? Don't all the other pitchers tax the bullpen? Aren't there bullpen moves that need to be made, and other pitchers to try in the pen, too, as the Twins settle into the cellar? It wouldn't shock me if the Twins don't do what everybody wants and needs to see sooner than later (it is already later) either. Unfortunately, I pretty much expect it and expect to be more upset.
  23. I would sure like it if a Twins' pitcher would go 91 pitches, 8 K's and only 2 hits, ....only one more out to get in the 6th... only 10 outs in the game... and leave the game with a runner on first and second and the score 4-0. I would like that every single game. His "relief" gave up his inherited runner's runs plus one. It could have been a line of 92-97 pitches with a 6 inning shutout and 9 Ks. I will take Meyer's line every game for our Twins. Every Game.
  24. As good as A.J. Achter was for the first half of the season, he is been totally not that recently. How does a pitcher go 1.1 innings with 3 hits and 2 walks and no runs score? That was Deolis Guerra's line...... What a game in Louisville for the Redwings.
  25. Schafer, Shafer, Schaefer, Schaffer, Schaeffer, Shaffer........... it is starting already. At least he isn't another Pressly, or Presley, or ............
