  1. The difference is in the strikeouts though. Even in September last year he still struck out 33.6% of the time, which was his 2nd best month in that category last year. In the 2nd half this year he has cut that number to 23.4%, so over 10%!! Assuming he could do that over a full seaosn and keep his BABIP at his career level of .323...that is a huge difference.
  2. These posts are directly related. When Gibson has command of his fastball and can locate that on the corners instead of missing, he gets ahead in the count more and uses the breaking stuff a lot more often, which in effect he is usually much more effective.
  3. It depends on where you made the bet. If it's an actual ticket at a casino, they will generally deal with you a bit if it's worth their while. Online sites it varies to which ones will give you an offer to cash out on tickets like that.
  4. David Shoenfield at ESPN, wrote a little article on Buxton and this really stood out to me: "Buxton's home runs came off a curveball, slider and first-pitch fastball. The two he hit off breaking balls both came in pitcher's counts, and that improved pitch recognition will be the key to his continued overall improvement. He's hitting .333/.370/.657 in the second half, including .286 with a .991 OPS against off-speed pitches, after hitting .236 with a .566 OPS against them in the first half."
  5. Then again you could argue Toronto almost gave up a lead they had no business giving up. I don't see how coming back from a 6 run deficient but coming up short is a morale killer. A real morale killer would have been a 10-2 loss, but just my opinion.
  6. Shields delivery makes it seem like he's throwing a lot harder than he actually is
  7. I agree and I tend to think the Twins FO thought the same as well. It's possible they didn't think Gonsalves as ready for a ML start, the bats were hot and it was quite possible they could get a decent enough start out of Melville to win a game and DFA him afterwards regardless. Obviously it didn't quite work out that way.
  8. Agreed! Gibby's problem has been locating that fastball. He falls behind hitters which really limits his usage of the off speed stuff. When he can locate that fastball on the corners and not get behind 2-0 and 2-1 all the time he really flourishes.
  9. Interesting lineup, though I do like the guys who are hot hitting 3-4-5 and that Molitor isn't married to Vargas in the 4-5 spot just because he can hit the ball a long ways.
  10. I read he is sick, came down with it yesterday and that's why he missed the 2nd game.
  11. The point of my post wasn't to bash Hicks. I was always a fan of Hicks, but I didn't believe the Hicks we saw in April-June was some revelation of Hicks as a brand new player. A lot of people predicted Hicks would fall off by the end of the season and it started in June and has continued after he came back from the DL.
  12. It was obvious tongue-in-cheek to the amount of over reactionary posts that came early in the season regarding Hicks. Kepler has a lot more success at the same age and similar playing than Hicks.
  13. There's a large difference between great pitching at the very bottom of the league you know...
  14. Do you have a link or any reference to Sano saying that? There's a lot out there to people speculating that Harper will become baseball's 1st $400 million dollar player, but I can't seem to remember or find anything relating to Sano.
  15. Dozier career state line: .249/.324/.449/.773 Dozier career men on base: .248/.332/.410/.743 Dozier career RISP: .250/.346/.426/.772 Dozier career bases empty: .249/.319/.473/.792 It is a complete myth that he hits better with men on or with RISP and statistics back that up. Dozier has better stats batting cleanup than he does in the leadoff position though much smaller sample size. Dozier has been on the Twins from 2012-2017. The only season in that run that the Twins had a pitching staff rank outside of the Top 5 in the AL was 2015. So yes, while the team has struggled while he has been a part of that, how much realistically are you going to place on him?
  16. It was more of a point of...it's a long season, let's not anoint Hicks the next HOF inductee before the end of June. But take it how you want.
  17. I don't recalling saying that he wouldn't be valuable to this team's outfield depth. Just a simple update of this thread.
  18. Slegers pitched on Thursday. They aren't going to use him on short rest.
  19. Hicks has struggled pretty bad since coming off the DL to the tune of .156/.269/.333 in 45 AB. Season line down to .265/.375/.482/.857 To quote Dave from June, "If they had him in LF instead of Rosario for instance, they would still be in first place." For Comparison: Rosario: .300/.340/.505/.845 Is this still the case?
  20. There's really no way you go to your top relievers being down 5-1 in the 4th inning of a double header, especially with Gee, who has been used as long man starting Game 2. It's a very much non-complaint from me.
  21. I just can't see Dozier being traded anymore now. After last season yes, but with so many guys looking like they have turned the corner, how do you trade him now? I have no problem keeping Esco around on a 1 year deal, there's really no one knocking on the door to play 3rd to spell Sano.
  22. Can I just ask why? Can you point to anything where Dozier has been a toxic clubhouse guy?
  23. Was it not confirmed that Vargas was to replace Sano and Melville is the 26th man?
