  1. Field is not up because his performance is better than Buxton's. Field is a warm body who will be gone as soon as the season ends because quite frankly the Twins have no other OF options in September of what is a non-contending season. I think it's quite the overreaction to assume that anyone made Buxton play with a wrist injury and even bigger overreaction to say that the FO should be fired because of it. For all we know it flared up in his last few game or last game he played in.
  2. And it's one game. If this was the everyday lineup going forward everyone SHOULD be up in arms.
  3. Wait wait. He is not being sent home, he is simply not being called up. There is a big difference here. There is no mandatory rule that states a player on the 40 man roster has be called in September.
  4. What makes anyone think that Buxton can win a grievance against the Twins? Take away the prospect ranking and where he was drafted and no one blinks an eye at any of this. Yes, he had a few good months last year, outside of that he has been often injured and putting it nicely, lousy at the plate. It is well within the rules for the team to shut him down for the rest of season, and quite frankly....probably the smartest thing to do. Let him heal whatever he has going on and start him early next season.
  5. I have no problem with either of these moves.
  6. Agreed. I didn't see any of the game and thought there might be some light hearted LOLs in here today, but wow. A holiday Sunday road game in September from a team who has been out in awhile. A lineup that didn't feature Mauer, Rosario, Sano or Garver. A bullpen game from the start. Polanco, Kepler and Cave and Moya are the only players who played yesterday who should have a real future for the Twins. Not worth getting your panties in a bunch over.
  7. That would be a very past past Twins thing to do. Trade a guy with superstar potential when his value is at the lowest. So.....let's not do this.
  8. I know he has played a ton if the OF for the Yankees and their system. Hah, I am just saying....the Twins probably don't need to toss him out in RF to see what they have in him out there.
  9. Ah, I thought I read he would have to be in the minors until after the 1st week of September to have the extra year, I could be wrong. I mean....who said he's perfectly fine though? His play earlier certainly didn't look fine...though he was healthy for parts of it.
  10. I don't see why you have to force a guy out there during a game to know he could potentially be backup out there. That's what practice is for. The team should have a decent idea that the guy can play the position or not.
  11. So a week more of MLB at bats in September is going to make him that much more ready next April? I just don't buy that. Even if it's "cheap" it's the way it works in baseball. It's not like Buxton has been tearing the cover off the ball and this move would cost him millions. I have no problem whatsoever with it.
  12. When you say "they" who are you talking about? There have been a number of people not only in the front office but in the dugout from the time Plouffe came up to when Astudillo was recalled, a span of almost 10 years. 1. Nishioka was always a gamble, pure and simple 2 and 3. Dozier and Plouffe played a combined 130 games at SS in their careers before being moved to to positions that both fit them better. It's not uncommon to see guys moved off of SS, especially when they are young. 4. Where did anyone say that Sano couldn't play 3B? 5. I, nor anyone, should argue or try and refute this. Mind boggling at the time, mind boggling now. 6. Polanco made a ton of errors in the minor leagues and advanced statistics show he is still not that good of a SS. 7. Grossman should be a 4th OF. His defense is good enough for what he SHOULD be used for. He has simply been used way too much. 8. Who was to say that "they" didn't think that Astudillo could play catcher? Because he didn't get any play time in the 11 days he was up earlier?
  13. What exactly does the manager do to "develop young talent?" and yes this is an honest question. The Twins employ dozens of employees. Is it on Molitor's shoulders that Kepler still struggles against left handed pitching? Or that Dozier got pull happy again this year? Or that Berrios lost steam once August rolled around? Or that Eddie will make an occasional base running blunder? I am not the biggest Molitor fan out there, but he has a whole staff. There's a lot of questions about the Polanco sac bunt earlier in this thread. Do we know this came from Molitor? If Polanco did it on his own, are we still going to blame the manager because the player has the option to have a green light like that? Do we blame the manager if the 3rd base coach gave the call? IMO managers will always get more credit when a team plays great and get more blame when a team is playing badly. I don't think I would give Molly more than a B- to a B, but I think a lot more blame gets thrown on his shoulders around here than it should.
  14. I meant above average fielding* who has on base skills to lead off, but the point is moot at this point.
  15. Kepler and Garver have played a combined 2 innings outside of the regular positions of OF and C this season. I understand having emergency positional flexibility is nice to have, but let's not act these guys can just jump around and play wherever. You made the comment, "I'd rather have Garver at 1B, and Kepler, and Sano, and Austin and Rooker." You can have all of that. Garver starting at C, Kepler in RF, Sano at 3rd, Austin at DH. You still have room for a above average 1B who has the on base skills to lead off. All that leaves is Rooker is 23 and still striking out 30% of the time in AA, why are we rushing him?
  16. I don't see how anyone can complain about the Twins losing Rodriguez, he was on absolutely nobody's radar. He has pitched better in a small sample size in SF than in any level in the minor leagues. What is with the skepticism with Cave? Was the Granite fanfare just because he was a home grown player? Cave looks like a much more complete player at the same age but is essentially already cast off. The strikeouts are concerning but I am honestly surprised at the disdain for him in this thread.
  17. Castro has 1 year and $8M left on his contract if I'm not mistaken. Unless he can't come back from injury, I highly doubt they eat that $$$ to pick someone else. At this point have to assume it will be Castro and Garver behind the plate.
  18. Oh, yeah I didn't mean to imply like a one for one trade, but I can see how most post sounded like that. I just really don't like the idea of bringing CarGo in, especially at his age.
  19. Can you toss me some logic why we would trade a 25 year old athletic OF for a soon to be 33 year old OF that has a triple slash of: .252/.308/.423 outside of Coors Field for his career?
  20. I think the difference is the thinking that they could get Forsythe to sign a 1 year extension, compared to signing an older player to a multi year deal. IF a 1 year deal was put on the table for Forsythe, personally I wouldn't see that as a bad signing. I would rather have 1 year of him, over 3 years of Murphy in that example.
  21. Makes sense to wait for official word before biting the manager's head off and throwing him under the bus. Feel better tomorrow Trevor.
  22. https://cdn-b-east.streamable.com/video/mp4/xbk3j.mp4?token=RNCqkljBfl1Domk876h3-Q&expires=1534386327 You will be humming it all day
  23. You going to walk Bradley and Ramirez to get to Encarnacion? Or not pitch to Lindor either? You gotta pitch to someone. Key to that inning was getting Allen out 1st.
  24. On the other hand Forsythe is a year and a half removed from a 3.4 WAR season. I know he was brutal with the stick in LA this season, if they don't think Gordon will be ready next year (not looking good) I could see extending a 1 year "prove it" type deal for Forsythe. He's only 31 and the Twins do have a lot of depth up the middle in the minors. I would be surprised to see them going to free agency and signing a multi year deal to a 2B/SS this offseason.
  25. I would say because Adrianza is the only viable backup for all the infield positions, so he is being used in a utilityrole. Let's be honest with ourselves here, Adrianza will be 29 next week and we know what he is. A light hitting, glove first infielder. If he were 23 and shown signs with his bat at any level, I would get this gripe, but eh...
