  1. Love seeing La Tortuga in the leadoff spot!
  2. Score more than 2 runs off the rookie and then we can talk. Team left 10 men on base. Asking Hildy to throw a clean inning against the Tigers isn't a fantasy. If I am "pinning" the loss on anyone it's the offense personally.
  3. Not going to win scoring 3 runs very often. Also the 1st runs the bullpen allowed in a calendar week, which is pretty impressive. Take care of business in the 2nd half tonight and go for 3/4 tomorrow!
  4. Twins lineup: 1. Kepler RF 2. Planco SS 3. Cruz DH 4. Rosario LF 5. Cron 1B 6. Gonzalez 3B 7. Adrianza 2B 8. Castro C 9. Buxton CF SP Pineda
  5. Tossed a lot of balls, no walks yet though. 64 pitches, 39 for strikes. 0 walks.
  6. I really like Polanco in the 2 hole. Ideally I think Bux makes perfect sense leading off, but Kepler is no slouch, has a higher OBP than Buck against RHP. A lineup of: Buxton Polanco Cruz Rosario Sano Kepler Garver Cron Schoop looks pretty insane right now, if and when it ever does happen.
  7. I'm curious to know how many potential attempts he has even had to nab bases this year. Of his 17 hits only 4 have been singles. He also has 4 walks. I know 3rd base is a potential base to steal, but of the more rare variety. That's 8 times he has been on 1st base via hit/walk, but does not account for if anyone was on in front of him. I am sure there has been a fielder's choice here or there too, but opportunities look pretty scarce so far.
  8. I understand the overusing part, but with the way Meija has looked, I would want him no where near a 0-2 run lead right now, as they had in Game 1 yesterday and today's game. Game 2 would have been an ideal time to use him, but they went with Romero...who was only up for the day, and Duffy instead. Meija and Parker both haven't pitched since the 17th. A 4 game absence from a reliever isn't completely uncommon with 8-9 man bullpens.
  9. Meh, save the FO bashing for times when this team drops games they should win. Good teams win close games and good teams have the ability to blow bad teams out, this team showed both of those things yesterday. The "woe is me, why would we add offense when we need relief pitching!!!!" trio of Cruz, Schoop and Cron combined to hit 5 HR yesterday. What are we out here doing if we can't sit back and enjoy wins once in awhile because there are other things to complain about? It's a long season. It's April.
  10. This might be the hottest take I have ever seen.
  11. If I remember correctly the majority of this board bashed the hell out of Molitor by over working the top bullpen guys early in the season to see them falter towards the end. Now we are bashing Rocco for not over using the top guys early in the season.... That being said....Meija needs to get his sh...stuff together.
  12. My alma mater and beloved Gonzaga Bulldogs are officially done for the season which means it's baseball time for this guy.
  13. I'll compare his comments to ones about my golf swing. I have gotten so many tips from friends, pros and a coach or two. I finally just started hitting the range by myself and working on things a little at a time instead of trying to change everything so often, until I put it together to have a decent consistent swing. I'm sure I could use a few pointers, but I am swinging better than I ever had, just needed to work things out by myself for a bit. I know we are at different levels but I am hoping this is the kinda thing he did. Got away from the manager, several hitting coaches and just went back to what made him such a highly regarded prospect in the 1st place. Then again....maybe I'm just an optimist.
  14. I would LOVE to see the Twins sign Kimbrel, but unless he comes off of his demand of a 5 year deal, it shouldn't happen.
  15. A lot of negatively in this thread about a guy who is putting in a lot of work to improve himself in the off season. More power to you Buck, great to see you putting in the work, now let's hope it pays off on the diamond.
  16. Still speculation, but rumors from multiple sites
  17. But why? Game score is just a fabricated stat. You can still look at the box score and see Gonsalves threw 6 shutout innings. I don't see how it ruins the feel the of the game. I get how we are ingrained to watching baseball as you have a starter who goes as long as he can in a game. It's the way it's been done for so long. How much more does it "ruin the feel" to have a guy go 1 inning, the next guy go 6 rather than the starter go 6, then bringing in another guy to go 1? Are you really going to be so turned off by going from Moya to Gonsalves in the 2nd inning instead of the other way around in the 6th inning that you are going to turn off the game? In theory, if your starter can go the same amount of innings starting in inning 2, you could really limit when you use the back end of the bullpen.
  18. I actually kind of dig it. I just think it's so interesting.
  19. Ah the rare Joe genuine smile at around :45 in. Love it.
  20. You are making him to the bad guy for NOT being traded because of his contract status. Yes, he has an expiring contract. You think the only way to show that he cares about the Twins and the franchise was to waive his no-trade clause this year?
  21. This is just a cheap pot shot at Joe. Born and raised in the Twin Cities, played his entire career in the system and with the Twins. His family is here, his friends are here, basically his entire life, but you want to take a shot at him for not being a "team player" and being traded in the twilight of his career to play ball away from all of that? Please. He earned and negotiated that no trade clause.
  22. Who says that starters are the best pitchers? Starters are the more valuable commodity because A)They have stamina to throw their best stuff for 85+ without substantial wearing down and they generally throw more than 2 above average pitches. On many teams the setup and closers have the best stuff for 1-2 innings out of any player on the staff, he just can't throw like that for more than a couple innings at best. In theory if you can get out of the 1st inning facing their toughest hitters with one of your better pitchers, it should be easier on the starter to go later into the game. I really don't think analytics have outsmarted anything. I really don't understand how so many people here have given up on trying this concept after just 2 games, against one of the top offenses in the league.
  23. It ruins the game? It ruins stats? So everyone that went to the game to see Kohl Strewart pitch today was ruined because he threw innings 2-6 instead of starting with inning 1? What's the difference if May threw the 1st instead of say the 7th? I think it's an interesting concept and have no qualms with them trying it out here late in this season.
  24. How is a guy starting a game and pitching an inning any different than a guy starting the 7th inning and throwing an inning? How is that messing with them and potentially ruining them? The guy's job is to go out and throw the baseball and get guys out.
