  1. Maybe somebody will write a nice article about SWR’s STUFF numbers. Of course it would be behind the paywall.
  2. Ouch. A list of what could have been if (fill in an excuse).
  3. I wouldn’t say Gil at 19 was a non prospect. Unknown as a Dominican player who already missed a year.. As I recall he was a flamethrower even then Did you conveniently forget the LaMonte Wade for Shaun Alexander 6.2 out for -0.5 back. Wade had not yet reached 130 AB Still should have had rookie status
  4. They need players with options to rotate through for when the injuries pile up. The minor league signing players pretty much are there by their history of achievement. The St Paul coaches are going to dix that problem.
  5. Different voters until a couple decades from now. They won’t jump ahead of him for a long time
  6. Not even a small raise for Tonkin but a heck of a lot more than he would make on a minor league contract.
  7. If the Twins valued defense they would be more fundamental sound on defense by the time the players got to the major leagues. They wouldn’t have drafted bat first players
  8. The non-tender deadline is tomorrow evening. Teams need to decide whether they want to offer contracts to their arbitration-eligible (and pre-arbitration) players. Those who are not tendered contracts See More at MLBTradeRumors i think it inspired the Baha Men’s song from a few years ago that TD won’t let me link. Woof woof list
  9. Trivino, Dakota Hudson, Cimber and Gott all signed last year for 1.5 million. You are very correct they could do worse at that price point. These guys are your proof. Jorge Lopez at 2 million was a train wreck. Floro imploded when traded to a team fighting for the playoffs at 2.25 million. I am sure if I kept looking there would be a winner somewhere in the bargain bin. I am not too worried. Somebody will come up with a name other than Tonkin
  10. The hypothetical values of Tonkin and Topa are hypothetical. For a signed contact and journeyman status I would think Tonkin would sign for a slight raise. It is more money than a minor league contract The front office traded for Topa. He is not going anywhere. Regardless, all of them signed and later DFAd because they din’t have options would likely be picked up. It wouldn’t cost them money
  11. At the start of spring training SWR would have been your 7ths starter behind Varland as the 6th. SWR was called up after 3 minor league starts. The conundrum for the Twins is ERA wise Paddack, Mathews, Festa and Varland were not so good. The advanced metrics are a little different for them as well as SWR. That would cause uncertainty in the future performance of your 4-7 pitchers. The developing pitchers if counted on early in the season will be gassed by September. I don’t think any have pitched over 100 innings in a season
  12. Either you have to give up something to pry them loose or you have to figure out what team soured on a player and talk them into giving them up. I don’t think the Twins will sell anything to demand a catching prospect be part of a deal.
  13. As it stands right now one of Festa or Mathew’s is the sixth starter. Who is the seventh starter to start the season. Raya has had all of 1 start at AAA, Morris has had 7 starts but only 34 innings. Unless they feign a better than Plutko type there needs to have another backup to start Varland will need to stay a starter.
  14. A no hit catcher that is excellent at catching can have a job if the number 1 catcher as talented as Will Smith for the Dodgers
  15. The smell is the Ben-Gay from the downside of their career players wanted by someone who learned nothing from Margot to the but but what about Santana? Excellence slows down to still above average
  16. Old school voters might have voted him in. That school is out for summer. That school is out forever
  17. Wow. No truer words were spoken about you than by yourself. Thanks for the laugh
  18. So much for you putting me on your ignore list. One, I said last 2 years, 2 There were more than just the 2 pitchers chasing a Cy Young in 23. Prove me wrong or be quiet
  19. The people who think Baldelli has a quick hook ignore that last season and the season before he was operating more on pitch count than innings. If it looked like the pitcher was going to go over 100, he didn’t get to start the next inning.. somebody with the knowledge and desire to sort through the records can tell me if I am wrong or not the people who complain about the quick hook, in my opinion, just do not pay attention to details
  20. The have Stewart, Jax, and Duran for high leverage, Sands, Topa, Alcala for the medium. A lefty is missing. Tonkin fits in as the 8th guy. The minor league retreads they usually sign will be in St Paul. They will be needed for when someone gets injured. That aspect happens every year. There is always the possibility of a trade of one of the top 6 to get the lefty. Or as part of a trade for another piece. If they were not going to keep Tonkin they probably would have released him at the end of the season wihen the released other players
