  1. Zebby pitched to a higher FIP last year than SWR did this year. There is hope that he will pitch better the second stint in MLB. Likely he will.
  2. As the head of the organization has changed and the bottom line has become more difficult to maintain it would not be unreasonable to think service time matters
  3. He did not get hired to be the White Sox manager but they liked him enough to make him a special assistant in player development and scouting
  4. There should be no reason other than he coulld’t learn good outfield play, what makes it possible for him to learn good if play?
  5. How quickly people forget Jax has had a bit of a struggle this year
  6. The manager does not make trades, he des t sed players up or down, nor does he draft or develop them. He is not the trainer nor the conditioning coach. The Twins’ problems are not anything he has control over. So no he can’t fix the problem nor could any other manager
  7. Three games against one of the teams that was one of the worst drawing road teams last year really means nothing. Agenda over reality strikes again
  8. Nuance is lost here when it comes to pitching. When a Twins pitcher has thrown over 80 pitches by the end of the fourth, they don’t start the fifth. At around 85, they don’t start the sixth. The upper limit on pitches seems to be 100. Paddack seems limited to 80 so far. The bullpen might have a pattern of rest depending on how many pitches thrown over a given period of time for the higher leverage relievers. That would require actual work to follow that usage. College now has very specific rules on number of pitches and days of rest. It is not unreasonable to think the Twins do not have the same.
  9. Hunter Green’s pitch count was low enough that they let him pitch into the 9th inning. 104 pitches. The number of innings a pitcher goes is dependent on the number of pitches. The Twins’ pitchers would be pitching later into games if they were could induce whiffs on outside pitches like Greene was yesterday. Pitch counts are generally located at the bottom of the box score.
  10. Before last season Margot had a career OPS as a pinch hitter somewhere around .200. Expecting or hoping to do better was a mistake in scouting. It was a mistake to continue to use him as a PH. If the goal of the trade was a backup CF, the trade was neither a win nor a loss. If it was for how they used him, they should have done better. They took a contract off the Dodgers bankroll for a prospect 10 mil is a lot for a prospect. I guess we will have to wait and see if the hitting develops. If it doesn’t become passable then the trade is a win.
  11. Taylor had an OPS worse than Margot last year.
  12. One could hardly tell the difference last year between Skubal or Sale pitching versus what Ober was doing. Sure thing
  13. When they announced what the bullpen was for the Saints I commented that it looks like the bullpen will be on DFA candidates for the big league team. Dobnak surely knew that he would have a DFA or two in his future. Any time the long man goes long, it will be vacation time in St Paul
  14. I also stated what he would have to do to get there. That is quite a leap in performance to do from a solid starter to an elite one.
  15. Robbie Ray, Porchello, R.A Dickey were one year wonders, Juechel and Arrietta had 2 great years in a row. My post had nothing to do with career years. It was a simple statement of fact that to get to the elite levels Ober and Ryan have to lower the HR/9, BB%, and increase K%. I would also contend that they would have to be a lot better than the pedigree pitchers as the career years might be construed as luck
  16. Cy Young award winners usually have a WAR over 5 unless it is a league wide down year. Just like Ryan, for Ober to be in contention for the Cy he would have to increase his K%, decrease his walk % and give up about 1/3 less home runs. That will get their ERA below 3, which they haven’t done for a season, Easy peasy
  17. Buxton has a no trade clause. Buxton has a contract through his age 34 season. Buxton will have made over 100 million by the end of the contract. After everybody gets their cut (taxes, agents, accountants) he should have made over 50 million. If there is no malfeasance by the accounts and the agents there really isn’t any reason to keep playing. There is no reason to think after 13-14 injury filled seasons that anything different is going to happen
  18. The spring games do not necessarily have a teams regular starting lineup so even the first three innings may not even be representative of the team. Their AAA prospects other factor would be are pitchers working on a pitch so they might not be always throwing a better pitch. If they have for example been working on a cutter, they may throw that a few more times to find out if it doesn’t work on a batter
  19. Canterino was optioned. The minor leagues only have the 7 day IL according to MLB.com. To use Canterino’s 40 man spot they would either have to DFA him or activate him and then place him on the 60 day IL. CBA would have what the teams are responsible for with an injured player. If it doesn’t change his paycheck they could probably DFA him while injured.. As a minor league player on the 40 man I don’t know if he is part of the union. As we all know from last year once the season starts they can’t demote an injured player.
  20. Their best pitching prospect is coming off an injury year. Their AAA prospects really did not do all that well when called up. I think Castellano was left unprotected to see if they could wrangle a better prospect out of someone.
  21. If a trade is not worked out beforehand a Rule v players in order to be sent down have to be made available to the other teams that could have drafted him for the 100k fee. If no teams want him, he must be offered to the Phillies for 50k. If they don’t want him back, then the Twins can send him to the minors. If they have traded for him, he is no longer under rule v. After all that and he is still a Twins player, if the Twins want his 40 man spot they can DFA him.
  22. There are times I am not bothering with articles anymore. This is should have been one of them. Rankings have bias. Fangraphs FV has a bias towards performance at higher levels. The article once again is clickbait.
