Wallner had the second highest OBP last year. Considering the horrendous t start last year, he might actually be the best choice.

The only two players who don’t need to be worried about starting fast are Buxton and Correa. The players out of potions might have to worry about splinters. In general it is not a fast start that is needed, it is being competent. If they are looking lost at the plate then change will happen.

Will the Twins Ever Invest in Size at First Base?
old nurse replied to Peter Labuza's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So where is the statistical analysis of size mattering for 1b play? It would take a fairly large sample size. -
Cleveland trades for Framber Reyes types who have one year of 1.5 war than perform at replacement level for a couple years before they move on from them.

Is Kody Funderburk Earning a Roster Spot?
old nurse replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Worse yet, i think they were mostly the minor league players. I a not going to check that closely, but I think Funderburke has been pitching the late innings, aka vets, go hit the shower- 15 replies

Ranking the Twins' Bullpen Candidates
old nurse replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins FP thinks is potential is a top half of the rotation pitcher they are going to do what they have to do short of giving up a high ceiling prospect. -
What seems to e lost in the discussion is what the Phillies want in trade. With Castellano he was their minor league pitcher of the year. They do have like 3-4 near major league pitching prospects that had to be protected or risk losing. These prospects have neither proved they belong at the major league level, nor have they disproved it. Castellano does not appear to be near major league ready. The Phillies gambled and momentarily lost. They had an open spot o the 40 man. They used it to draft a player that the traded to Tampa for cash. I suspect they do not foresee anyone stashing Castellano. The reasons have been fairly well covered They have the leverage in a trade negotiation.. They do not have to take garbage back in trade. They would want an equivalent player back. A high ceiling pitching prospect that does not have to be on the 40 man roster. Those are not readily available, which would be why the Twins picked Castellano in the first place. That could reasonably be why a trade has not happened. Nor will happen.
-
The rule then would be as it has always been. The Twins could trade Castellano to another team if they so chose. The same rule 5 restrictions would continue to apply to him in that he would have to be a 40 man roster. If a team wishes to send a player to the minors, they have to offer him back to the Phillies. The Phillies can accept him back or work out a trade. .

Tonkin was not released while injured. He pitched that September and was released after the season. Kirriloff was optioned but said Nope, I am injured so they couldn’t option him and had to be pt on the IL. Everyone here pretty much should understand that a team is responsible for a contract with a DFA because of Dobnak. With the cost of medical and rehabilitation it would be amazing if injuries and care of those injuries was not a part of the CBA the team has many many examples of sticking with pitchers who are injury prone. I doubt they would dump Canterino.

They can DFA him. They would still e liable for medical and this year’s salary. They can’t option him injured. That is why so many players get optioned early out of spring training. They would have to put him on the 60 day to open up a slot on the 40 man.

Brock Stewart should be “overlooked” 5 years of injuries would suggest that anything the team gets out of him is a bonus.

The Phillies reportedly had a high asking price before the rule V draft, more than what the Twins wanted to give up. The Phillies have an aging starting rotation., and a dearth of starting pitching in the minors. Nothing has changed in the Phillies organization talent wise.. the only way the price comes down is if the Phillies are scouting their former prospect and think he will not develop further based on spring training. I don’t think that would occur
