I still think the major problem with this team is that the highest paid players are not the type that will carry a team on their backs. They have played well, but not the type that will take over. No coach will win until they get a leader out of the position players.

I doubt that Tony Larussa and Dave Duncan would have a much better record with this bunch. Change for the sake of change will only happen if the Twins believe it will result in fannies in the seat. I don't think Molitor wants the job. Names with recognition to the Twins fans and winning records as a manager are few and far between. Gaetti manager, Redman bench coach, Viola pitching coach, Bruno hitting, Al Newman first base, Liddle and Stelly stay. All ex Twin coaches for the homers. All with some degree of experience. I would agree with Riverbrian. I would also agree that Ploufe is a completely different player than Valancia and the thumb is not well right now. Kudos for trying as best he can. Another year will tell if he can play regularly. If not, then they can trot out Romero for a half a year and make another frequent contributor happy someone got a chance though they will be another bust.

Dan Cole once said everyone wants something for free. Love of the game is one thing, being paid for your time is the American way. Deal with it and enjoy the site. Click on an ad every once in awhile so they guys get paid for their time. I do not know why General Mills isn't a sponsor for all the Frankenberry plugs along the way.

You named pitchers that went through the low minors quickly, not held back as the myth would have it. Talent does move up in the system mid year. Various bloggers regularly posts on it. One could debate if the Twins are developing the talent, but without separated at birth prospects to distinguish between systems it would stay a debate.

I don't think any 28-year old belongs to AA. But I like the Twins signing independent league star players better than signing washouts (like they did in the past and less this season) for Rochester. Colabello would look good in Rochester (but Burroughs for some reason has been ahead of him). And he might make it to the majors; Watkins did after all Some guy named Parmalee has been playing first for Rochester for the best part of the season. Seems there was this guy named Morneau at the major league level. Uninjured and paid a lot of money. Burroughs has been playing a little all over on the diamond. He probabbly could have played third base full time but there was this rising star named Valencia at third base. If Parmalee would have stuck at the major league level midseason, then Colabello would have moved up. If they figured out Valencia quicker, Romero would have moved up. At the start of the year they did not know what they had in either of these players for sure.

Whatever reject/rejects they sign to fill out the rotation A reject can turn into a Burton. Pavano was considered done. He had good year and a half. Fortunate to have him. Unfortunate later, but that is another thread. There are pitchers to fill out a roster every year that are sliding down the starter ranks that bounce back. Then there are the Ben Sheets of the world. As a stopgap, the Twins have to convince them to come here to pitch well and be traded to a contender in July.

Alysha Perkins is an interesting individual. I doubt many on this board are or were runners, but her blog is entertaining to say the least. Thanks for the link and maybe a future event to try.

I do not think that any current Twin player is either capable of doing Tovar's feat or worthy of the distinction. Mauer before the knee injury might have been capable of it. He certainly could do no worse as a pitcher than some have done this year.

I feel sorry for Hendricks. He might have to pitch a shutout to avoid a loss.

Would it be worth the Twins looking to the independent leagues for some starting pitting. Scott Kasmir hasn't quite found himself yet, but a Jason Lane might be a worthwile look in spring.

In recent memory, there haven't been any. In the small market days, they definitely played the arb/super2 game... Guys like Neshek, Morneau, and Bartlett spent more time in the minors than one would have liked.... but that was quite some time ago. ??? Neshek appears to have been fast tracked. For Morneau and Bartlett, September call up from AA where they did not perform well, then they did well after midseason call ups after 1/2 season in AAA. Would you like to try again?

If an astute fan can see the difference in Blackburn's delivery when he was somewhat successful and when he is not, l it would be more than reasonable to think the coaches have also. It is quite possible Blackburn's demotion rests squarely on him not accepting coaching.

How about we include Grey, Carson, Thomas, Guerra and a B level and a couple of C level prospects to go with?

I think they are going to use the full rehab time they can. Being he hasn't pitched much this year it is also like spring training and they add the innings and pitches. I would think given the lack of arms they would not totally give up on him. Probably added back to the major league level once rosters expand.

Is it unreasonable to ask if he would be a better pitcher by pitching more over the top? If so, why haven't the coaches noticed?
