  1. The highest number I could find for Gonzalez was speculation on a 5/60 contract. When the numbers were speculated last winter and what they came back for as the free agents signed were vastly different. Is a 5/77 contract like CJ Wilson signed reasonable. If the Twins were to do such a contract they would be wise to front load the contract from the money they didn't spend this year. Are the Twins liking Hinjosa or Despaigne better than Gonzalez? I know for some the answer is sign all three.
  2. What would make you think the Twins would want Johnson other than they have an abundance of AAAA arms to call up for when he is injured
  3. Nathan has had a great career, but not a HOF career. Maybe if there was a few WS rings on his fingers, but that has not happened so far.
  4. The Rays only success that year was Shields. the Cubs had Dontrelle Willis, Rangers Encarcion, the A's had Harden, and the Royals had DeJesus. The Mets, Yankees, Blue Jays, Tigers and Reds had none. One real bad year for many teams. I did not look at all the teams, just enough to more than illustrate the point that the draft is a crapshoot and some years you are not lucky. Some teams did get lucky in the draft.
  5. John Farrell, Terry Collins and Mike Redmond must be such idiots to not be using Rauch as a closer. Bob Melvin used him as a closer and got a better job for his efforts. I remember a lot of people on base and not many strikeouts by Rauch. The job got done but you were having RD flashbacks
  6. Injuries can happen at any time. So Re you advocating trading players away because they might get injured?
  7. A player that is playing the game to the best of their abilities will 99% of the feel the love of the fan base. Individually they are not held as responsible for the cumulative losses. As fans care about wins and losses, the lack of wins has to be blamed on somebody as they hate the lack of wins. Usually it is the manager in the cross hairs. This time it is the GM. People are impatient. They expect things to happen overnight. as the nights turn into a couple of years their anger boils. The FA apologists would also not like the losses but also see the need for patience. I did take the sacred cow comment as inflamatory. Just because it is inflamatory there is no need to react to it.
  8. His velocity is down to the high 80's from what used to be the mid 90 range. Perhaps it would be nice if you explained, other than for a prayer that the pitcher from a few years ago returns, why the Twins should sign him/ Other than the reason "He is no worse than pitcher A, B, C, or D"
  9. A C- prospect is value. It is possible he crashes and burns this year,
  10. If you are offered a prospect you think would help your team in some day by all means. Deduno is replaceable in terms of production. For someone the fans can cheer for, that might be harder to replace.
  11. I would bet Ryan could find a useful A ball pitcher for Duensing. Probably would have a sinker in the 88-90 range.
  12. Any player is going to be marketed that is tradeable if the price is right. The chance of Perkins being dealt is low. If Ryan thinks the team comes out way ahead in a trade he would trade anyone.
  13. They did wonders for Correia
  14. Overacheivers under Anderson. Slowey, Blackburn in his first two years, DeVries certainly did better than one would have expected. The failure is Liriano. Relievers that did well under Anderson would include Guerrier, I don't think other than Liriano. Strikeouts are a part of fip and fip is a large part of WAR. Since 2002 the Twins k/9 is almost the worst in the league. The Twins are the 5th best WAR cumulative pitching over that time. Something has to be a little right with the pitching coach. Other than Santana, one great year from Pavano, and a 1/2 year on Liriano it is not like there has been great pitching on the Twins part.
  15. The point I was making is the rankings do not matter. Top 10 prospects from the 2006 WBC: The 7 non Cubans were , Liriano, Loewen, Hu, Harman, Giaratano, Kawasaki, and Martis. Liriano was the only one of that group to make the majord from that prospect list. It doesn't mean don't sign players. I just don't think you can get all wound up about rankings and dollars.
  16. In the drafting and ranking of older players the experts hardly ever get it right, what does it matter so much with the internationals at 16 years old?
  17. 10 of the top 30 still have not signed. It is a guessing game after the top few.
  18. You have to remember with Gray is his gb% was on the low side and his hr/fb was on the high side. Did Gray then benefit from warning track outs? The batter tried to hit a home run but only came close.
  19. I don't think a long man can price himself out of the market unless the vet min. for 20 years is a large number.
  20. If babip were luck, then over time for a hitter they should all approach near the same babip. That does not happen
  21. Hunter was here for 9 years, hardly leaving as soon as he could. Most of the others were here longer than the minimum 6 years. Crain wanted to close, the Twins did not use him in that role with Nathan's injury. He did not win the job in Chicago either.
  22. There is a window for trade when someone is DFA. The Orioles thought a team with a worse record than they have would put a claim if so they would have to trade for him.
  23. If they had a lot to sell they would not be in the position of needing to be sellers.
  24. Please provide some statistical evidence in over three years of major league pitching these are great talent pitchers.
  25. How Strop was used would say Fien, not Burton.5.37 ERA over time for Arietta is not a twisted fact. Feldman this year is pitching above average. The international money makes up for what they gave up dumping Marmol. The Cubs lost salary dumping
