  1. Wacha when he is good is a predominately 2 pitch pitcher. Archer as well.
  2. Chris Archer, Michael Wacha, and Detweiler come to mind as recent pitchers who used a 2 pitch mix.
  3. I would imagine that it is really hard to teach patience when you are having decent success from the contact you make with the ball. When it doesn't work anymore, then there is a better chance for listening. I would also imagine that the minor league pitchers with the command to intentionally be just outside the zone are fewer and far between.
  4. There have been plenty of bench players taken by the Twins from the release scrap heap. Probably the last player to start a 100 games for a couple of years was Dustan Mohr. It wasn't for a lack of trying on the Twins part. From giving Tom Quinlan a shot to Juan Centeno this year it seems like they are always trying to find the gem others missed on. The AAA roster always seems to have a few on it, management hoping. The released pool is how Ryan builds bullpens. Buddy Bashers may go from being a punchline to a couple year stalwart
  5. Only in advanced metrics could an OPS of .732 be similar to an OPS near .800. It is a stretched reality to make Arcia and Ortiz similar.
  6. The axe bat leads to a chop swing so he is not driving the ball. A double and a home run says that Suzuki needs to buy a lottery ticket with his luck today.
  7. On past threads about AAAA pitching, deception works in the minors better than the majors. At AAA the pitcher has success with deception, the major league hitters are not fooled by it. .
  8. Why do people not understand shoulder injuries are mot binary?
  9. The late 80s into the 1990sAtlanta and Phillies team slipped you mind. The Padres nearly did it , but they had a .500 season. The Cubs were the Cubs until 1984. Yup. not recent, does not matter.
  10. maybe some of these people want Arcia in CF
  11. I think the Twins should have hung on to Moylan for 12 years , waiting for him to be good. They should have had Liam Hendriks doing Pilates sooner and had his wife doing Pilates with the rest of the mediocre starters. They should have signed Manny Ramirez to mentor Ortiz. Hung on to RA Dickey,, I mean, how good would it have been to have Syndergaard and d'Arnaud?
  12. So Molitor should resign at the end of the year because the injuries to Perkins, Gibson, Hughes, Sano and May are insignificant to the overall success of the team? OK> Luhnow as much fired Porter because it took the spotlight off his perceived mistakes with Brady and Nix. Politics also were rumored to play a large part.
  13. If in a few years time between Santana and Arcia one does little and the other does less the move and angst becomes over nothing.
  14. The Arcia era ended because Arcia would or could not learn how not to miss the baseball. If he could have made closer to league average contact rate or league average BB% he would be in Right field. When Sano comes back, the brain trust will figure out something. If Buxton and Kepler are showing improvement, it will be Santana Park going down.
  15. Vargas, Arcia, ABW< What in 2015 would convince you they were locks to be major league players? Trade what for a relief pitcher you would be proud of? Sign one? How many of the 50 FA are any good this year. Crap shoot. Thinking that someone bases anything off spring training records is a great strawman argument. A player may have a good spring, but not very many fans believe
  16. The ad annoys me. Shouldn't the trajectory for the Santana bobblehead'd head be from looking forwards to backwards and up to the sky?
  17. So far Abad, Bosher and Kinzler have an ERA under 2. Tonkin a hair over 3, At the end of the year you will know if they were better additions than Storem or Bastardo (who so far are not having good years) The problem is the failures of the players he had, Jepson, May and Fien, along with Perkins' annual post 30 injury. Just a little side question, Did Storen come down with the "curse of Matt Capps" when relievers departing Washington become duds?
  18. I did not know that a soft tosser could overthrow
  19. That would have been under looking at philosophy
  20. There have been many people posting thoughts that come from an interesting journey.
  21. In replying to spycake stating the Twins allocation of resources, Ryan had nothing to trade for players Hermann is playing well for Arizona, not really perform as an asset here. He is not a starter there, was not a core player here. That you can name 2 position players and still not get that in over 10 years you have only developed one starter from the later rounds. Hicks was a first round draft choice as was Gibson whom iirc pitches, not fields and bats. Note the period mostly covers the Mike Radcliff drafts
  22. The core of the current team would have to have come from the talent added during that time frame. In the draft, how many position players were drafted after the first round? How many gem pitchers were found after the second round? What good useful pieces were added via trade? 2011 and later draft picks are now just starting to blossom in the majors. What front line players did the Twins have at that point to trade for up and coming talent? Nada. Money resources, you couldn't have a non luxury payroll and even begin to fill the talent holes the Twins had and have via free agency.
  23. They also gave up Barker, a good draft pickup, which is about what they might get with the B comp pick. And they are out the pro rated portion of 3.9 million.
  24. The current futility of the Twins has less to do with what happened since 2011 then what happened between 2000 and 2011
  25. IDK, then why do people complain the Twins don't spend money and are cheap.
