  2. Dozier did not have the arm for SS, much less 3b
  3. Andy McPhail went from genius in Minnesota to idiot in Chicago. Sandy Alderson has been from genius to bum and back. Time will tell if the "bold" move of Larussa's hiring shows much. Glen Taylor got rid of the country club and ended up with Kahn. Outside isn't always better. If Antony is auditioning the first thing he better do is bring in a mind that understands pitching as an assistant, special assistant and/or minor league pitching directory. After that, if he can sell his organizational philosophy to Pohlad and get a job, he probably wouldn't have a hard time selling players on Minnesota. He wouldn't have to complain about not being able to give money away.
  4. You are totally ignoring that it is not a low cost signing when you give up a high draft pick to get the player for a one year flier. Ian Desmond is having a career year with a BABIB 70 points higher than his career norm. Great for this year, not so great for the future. Funny the boards are silent from those that thought Bourjos, Bonafacio, and any number of budget free agent pitchers like Marcum or Sanchez. Cherry pick what you are right about, ignore when you are wrong.
  5. To make a big trade Ryan would be trading highly ranked prospects or first and second year players. That is not, has not nor will ever be Ryan's method of doing things. Anything else the Twins have to trade would not fall into the big trade category
  6. Every sport has a fan base. Then there are the front runner and it is the new thing crowds. I really don't think one sport will cut into the other.
  7. What changed is the regression of talent and the inability to fix it. Minor league players being undisciplined and looking like they were not coachable. Health concerns undetected for longer than they should be piled up. When they looked at what wasn't working it was called the minor league development model. It needed changing. The changes made last offseason in someone's eyes was not improving the product. Dave St. Peter's title and what he does are 2 different things. In the actual baseball operations the Twin's GM is what many other organizations call the president of baseball operations. That is what Pohlad must have figured out be reading mlb.com's front office information. It doesn't mean anything in terms of what St Peter does, titles will shift.
  8. The Minnesota Kicks were a party, They drew well until they forced people to actually watch the game. Attendance tailed off. I do not recall the Strikers ever drawing that well. It would be fair to say that the novelty factor will work for a year or two. Without a deep playoff team, not so much for the attendance once the novelty wears off.. They draw when they are novel, they draw when they win. Except for the Wild, the crowds dwindle when they lose. soccer will not harm the Twins.
  9. On the likeability comment by Pohlad consider one of the signees by Epstien said the reason he signed with the club is that Epstien sold him on the chance to be a part of history to get the Cubs to win the World Series. Everybody likes Epstien. Pohlad wants a likeable salesman, which Ryan would never be.
  10. How many times has Ryan brought up Ploanco and the manager did not play him? Kepler the same thing earlier this year. Chargois, 1 game. Berios did not get the chance to refine at the major league level. I am starting to think that Ryan wanted to do a total teardown. Pohlad said somewhere that he did not want to do what Atlanta had done. When he took over in the 90's he was patching with aging free agents. He went with the kids when he could. He spent the last few years patching with free agents. I think he wanted to go with the kids. Molitor doesn't manage like a manager wanting to develop the kids. Ryan 'rarely trades his kids for experienced talent. Who wins the power struggle? The manager that has the backing of the owner. I get the feeling that the next GM will have ties to Molitor. When the GM makes trades at the behest of the manager, bad things can happen. Lohse for nothing, Hardy for nothing, Capps as your closer. ....
  11. That is like trusting anyone here proposing a trade. A fanblog should not be deemed reality.
  12. Howard Fox was promoted by Carl. The Griffith organization was so bareboned that when Carl bought the team and the relatives left, the only executive left was Fox. It was not some bold move by Fox to hire MacPhail, there was nobody to promote. Bill Smith would be the fist GM ever fired by the Twins, although he wasn't really fired, just reassigned.
  13. The 7/107 offer was before the 2014 season. By spring of 2016 it was a different story. There was no 100 million offer, just a QO from the Nats. Now you could criticize the Nats for not signing him as an outfielder as they have had to put Trea Turner out there. 28 other clubs passed on signing Desmond as a shortstop. About the only one that should not have is Arizona
  14. Considering their 2015 season some of the players had, you had Sano and Plouffe. Vargas did not show much in his ml AB in 2015 and was dtill striking out a lot. AB Walker hadn't been in AAA and strikes out a lot. Palka had not even been to AA. With that that you threw out what you thought was a lowball bid for Park to give Arcia some competition. You couldn't trade Plouffe because as average of hitter as he is, he was still one of your better performers.
  15. That would be a valid theory except GMs like their own guys as managers. Just ask Dale Sveum. Bud Black was gone after 1 year with a new GM.
  16. Jim Pohlad is becoming George Steinbrenner
  17. Carl did not like baseball, Eloise did. Carl did like the assest that appreciated
  18. When people have complained about the signing of Santana in the first place they called him a middle to back of rotation starter. What is the normal prospect return for a middle to back of the rotation starter? A higher risk prospect versus a high risk prospect? KC picked Santana up at a low point with 13 million owed for a player now in indie ball. How much would you have to pay for a middling prospect that has a chance to be on the roster but nothing great? Is that really worth the money when you have that in your system now?
  19. For Zunino to get enough AB to hit 30+ HR he would have to play DH every day he does not catch. Gosh, as Vargas is reaching his potential this year, you would take away from his greater power potential. And you lost the outfielder with greater power potential.
  20. Dave claimed Zunino could hit 30+ HR per year. Applying the same math principals, Kepler would hit 50+ I can't clean the math concepts up enough to post and you still might be missing the sarcasm
  21. over the time period there have not been many organizations that were static, The people in charge change. If anything the blog points out the need to be an adept trader as pitching talent gets traded young.
  22. The 2008 56th best by B.A. would be a worse prospect. A 22 year old Drew Pomeranz was the 61 in 2011 and moved up. The riskier the prospect, the better it is when it works out.
  23. You would give up a 50+ HR OF for a 30+ HR catcher?
  24. Players under team control are much cheaper. Before you say Jepson remember that he was dur to be a free agent after this season.
  25. They had Tulo on the market for months. It wasn't about the money, it was about getting the best possible prospects back. They traded a star, they needed a future star
