  1. Drew Buters - 0.7 Kratz, - 0.1 Zobrist 1.2 Joba, - 0.1, Gomes, - 0.4, Cueto 0.2 I am not sure if the Royals benefited or not
  2. If Pomeranz has truly bloomed, for 2.5 years maybe Boston got him cheaply. Unless if Espinoza turns into Pedro Martinez Espinoza.
  3. Cespedes produced 2.3 bwar for the Mets Uribe and Johnson provided 1.1 bwar Clippard gave them 0.2. Oflarety cost them 0.7. Eric Young gained them 0.1 Reed got them 0.4. They signed Stauffer for a loss of 0.2 Net gain 3.1 Real gain, Cespedes and Clippard in the first 2 rounds of the playoffs. You make the trades when you think your club will be in the playoffs. That does not show up in places I know to look.
  4. Drafting pitchers by the number drafted really doesn't mean that much. Quality over quantity. In TR2 era 23 out of the 55 picks in the first 10 rounds have been pitchers. 20 of them in the first 5 rounds. Later round chances of finding a front line player diminish under the slotting and capped system. Don't know if that is above or below average
  5. Oakland is a good example what happens when you go all in and fail. Going all in when starting with 2 cards not of the same color, low, and not near each other is a fool's bet.
  6. For the most part it is success after changing organizations several times and several years. In 2020 with 20/20 hindsight maybe Arcia will head your list
  7. So a player that as recently as last year was rated as the 14th best prospect in minor league baseball has no value? This despite the trading of the once 43rd best prospect in baseball drew pages upon pages of howls of protest. The ceiling for Meyer still has not changed. A certain Cubs pitcher really didn't get going until he was 28. Randy Johnson was not dominate until his mid to late 20's. You can't call the trade a bust yet. You can't say they did not get something of value.
  8. They are 7-2 in their last nine games. If they continue that pace they will finish above .500. Well above .500. Before you post a retort, remember that this thread is supposed to be all in fun.
  9. Well, I hope when you turn 60 you find out that your brain did not stop gaining capacity to learn long ago.
  10. A quote from Pohlad from a recent strib “Well, like anybody, and maybe I jumped the gun saying that about Paul, I mean we have to figure out what we’re doing wrong, what we’re doing wrong in the system,” Pohlad said. “If that points to the need to change personnel, I guess I would have to say we’d look at everything. But there has been no identification of anything like that. We’re beginning to discuss the process of how we examine doing things throughout our system.” The staff fix what they are doing wrong or they get a new staff. Step one is to identify the problem. I highly doubt they will say much more than that on the subject, or on the process, much less the solutions.
  11. Catching throughout the league is bad. OF defense it depends on what metric you like. Kepler, Buxton and Rosario have the range, but DRS does not seem to like them. MI, might take 2 more years for Gordon. Polanco should be up. Pohlad said something like they are looking at what they are doing wrong. Ryan has to come up with an answer. If the answer does not satisfy Pohlad, Ryan goes. If there are no changes in the minor league structure then they would be depending on the staff to change how they do business. The general public will probably never find out what they discuss but unlike the pas Twins, no one would call the current group well versed in fundamentals and defense. The other side of the coin is that decent offense gets you to the majors.
  12. Then when you say that "this was not happy inducing" your fun is not being happy? 7-2 in their last 9, on pace now to finish above .500. That should make you less unhappy
  13. Mauer would certainly be an upgrade in Washington
  14. Depends on what kind of numbers you want to look at. Danks had a much higher ERA than Nolasco does. 246 pitchers so far have started a game so far this year in the majors. By ERA, 87 of them have fared worse than Nolasco. By SIERRA, there are 137 worse. By fWAR, 196 of them have fared worse than Nolasco. That is why they don't just release him. He is not bad enough to do that. As it is, they still have had worse production from the 5th starter position. There is still some value there. More if someone looks at WAR and FIP and not LOB%. If Dean/Milone had pitched better then the team has to consider their options.
  15. Ryan, if anything, is a long term planner and does not do a whole lot for the short term. Except trade for Jepson and a couple others.
  16. When pitchers have more batting WAR than 4 of your main players by Fangraphs, your team has a problem. Starting pitching outside of Tanaka and Sabathia is past Twins Territory. The bullpen after Betance, Miller and Chapman is not amongst the finest, either
  17. Did not say do not make a trade. The near major league ready prospect hunkering down at the bottom of some preseason list may not have the upside of a lower level prospect. At this point I would rather see a prospect with great potential than a prospect with a higher flow but not much higher than that ceiling. I would rather see the Twins pick up multiple prospects that gain their way up the list. Milton and Ortiz were not ranked prospects when obtained.
  18. Didn't you complain about too many DH types on the construction of the roster? Actually Santana and one of those numerous prospects for Swihart might be a win/win situation.
  19. Don't be swayed by the term top 100 prospect. History is littered with failed top 100 prospects. Matt Gamel, Tomas Neal Nick Hagadone types excite you? Nick Blackburn, Phil Humber, Guerra? Near ready top 100 prospects that fizzled. Santana is what he is. A couple of high ceiling young top 100 prospects one could get excited about. More cup of coffee players, not so much.
  20. Their name pops up as a rumoured trade candidate, they play better. Hmmmm...... Time for Pohlad to sneak Carfado some money.
  21. Every year there are 10-20 bounceback candidates at various prices. One or two bounce back. The rest leave fan sites full of words about what idiots the FO is and don't they know players over 30 decline. A couple site get to say what a genius the FO is but.....
  22. Actually for the Twins an August trade makes sense in that if they have to pay significant amounts of money they would probably rather have someone claim them. Any of the position players there wouldn't be any advantage in losing them that way. One position player of what they have would be reasonable expectation, two in a heavy demand market. Suzuki isn't any better or worse than any other catcher available. Nunez is probability one of the better utility players. Depends on if a pretender thinks they can be a contender. Towards the end of the month there will be a clearer picture.
  23. Spring of 2019. Concussions and pride are difficult to overcome.
  24. What any player and the team is on pace for is utterly meaningless .81 games in and 4 players have played in 3/4 of the games One of those for players is now in the minors. Starting pitching, Nolasco is the only pitcher to make their scheduled. Santana has missed a few. The roster is in flux. Projections of the team are meaningless. Projection on what the players may do is subject to flux. Your own comment on Dozier shows that.
  25. Deron Johnson does the drafting. Granted it is under the direction of the GM, but Ryan has said he has left the decisions up to him. Same guy for both Smith and Ryan, just getting smarter.
