  1. No front office person or manager is going to make any sort of statement publicly that a prospect may not have what it takes to be successful in the majors unless they are giving up on the prospect.
  2. As bad as Kyle Gibson's numbers are this year, that is about where Berrios's numbers were last year. Is what he is throwing this year any different than last year? I do not know, nor do any of the stat line scouts know. The danger in removing all doubt is also the danger of removing all value if the results at the major league level are the same as last year's.
  3. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/ryan-schimpf-and-the-great-old-rookie/
  4. A lot further down the page was last week's rankings An interesting name to watch, if he is available at 35 or 37 is Will Crowe. Drafted twice by Cleveland http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=draft
  5. Yup, would have cost a million more than Belisle. Less than 2.5 more than Tonkin
  6. If Berrios was viewed as a #1 or #2 starter he would have been a top 5 prospect. He wasn't ranked that high. That just leaves fan's thinking they know more than baseball scouts
  7. Hildenberger thus far has had the best season in AAA If not him, then Tepesch makes about the only other pitcher Rochester has going well as a reliever. Outside of Berrios, their starters are not faring well. There was not a whole lot of choice. It might be too big of jump for a AA pitcher
  8. The goose egg is as relevant to how good a relief pitcher as wins are to a starting pitcher. The better the team's starting pitching, the better the reliever will look. Enough offense to create a lead gets the reliever points, just bad enough offense at the time to be down a run gets you nothing.
  9. Yet another thread on Hicks?Murphy. After 7 pages of a rehash of threads gone by it is no wonder the moderator has thoughts about kamikazes.
  10. Maybe he finally figured out something with his command.
  11. The pitched ball has more movement when warmer making it harder to hit. Therefore some of the balls may not have been struck as well.
  12. The carry of a 50 degree baseball and a 70 degree baseball is 5 feet. 5 more feet for 90 degrees. Technical fabric in clothes, 50 should not be a problem in any sport for muscles tightening All old wives tales
  13. Did not watch the game either as I was dealing with a system failure. Bad first inning. Needed a couple of good plays by outfielders. I don't know if that qualifies as worse than numbers. k-bb% was league average as well as Hughes average. Not walking anyone makes up for the lack of strikeouts (Anderson is smiling somewhere). He did not give up a HR ball. The question should be did Hughes pitch his normal game of a few strikeouts, a few base runners and a lot of fans expecting the worse at any minute.
  14. If Breslow can pitch he will not take a coaching job. A million and some a year is a lot better that 100-300k a year as a coach. It might be debatable the pitching part now. A lot of walks this spring and he might not have been facing the A team players. I did not pay that close of attention.
  15. Dozier and Castro are the only position player that would constitute a fire sale as Mauer has the no trade. Any of the younger players it would be a move of giving up on them, dfa, or blockbuster trade. Santana and Santiago for starting pitching. Hughes coming off injury and having a long term contract is hardly movable. Kinzler is the only reliever of value. Breslow would be a major comeback to have value. The rest are either your building blocks or organizational filler.
  16. A different pitcher? Dor the 2011 season the Twins coud have signed Correa, as he was available. They could gave signed Jorge DeLaRosa and then would have still ended up with Blackburn or Slowey. Blackburn injured his wrist and never was the same pitcher. Slowey had a few good games in Miami, then the other teams figured him out. A less wrong answer is only about Blackburn's money. Slowey made 8 million for a career, Blackburn 15. They both struck the lottery given their talents.
  17. There was no right answer in the Slowey vs Blackburn debate.
  18. He mentioned the team they just played and they were going to play. Recency more than racial could be a terribly logical reason.
  19. “I hope kids watching the WBC can watch the way we play the game and appreciate the way we play the game as opposed to the way Puerto Rico plays or the Dominican plays,” Kinsler said. “That’s not taking anything away from them. That just wasn’t the way we were raised. They were raised differently and to show emotion and passion when you play. We do show emotion; we do show passion. But we just do it in a different way.” Where does he say to emulate anyone? Appreciate is not emulate.
  20. Nowhere does Kinsler say one way is better than the other, only different.
  21. Wow Read into things much? Context of the rest of the conversation would really be helpful. That’s not taking anything away from them. That just wasn’t the way we were raised. They were raised differently and to show emotion and passion when you play. We do show emotion; we do show passion. But we just do it in a different way.” Context because that line would give others the impression that the greater context would have been a discussion that it does not look like the Americans are having any fun, don't care ( someone else can find the same general indict of Mauer somewhere in these threads) and Desmond offers a rebuttal. Nowhere can I see a negative comment, only that we are different. That is not a clash of any kind. Kinsler's initial statement was not detailed allowing so many to add to it without substance only personal opinions and egos.
  22. If anything the initial comment with the follow up comments shows that you have to be very careful on what you say lest someone spin it in a way that you did not intend your comment to be.
  23. Meserano has been limited so the dl might be a possibility and they retain Stuart for a couple of weeks
  24. The guy that is supposed to be the starter may start the season on the DL. also http://m.mlb.com/news/article/216531028/reds-turner-must-prove-hes-ready/
