    Can this young man finally put these injuries behind him and be the best he can be? If he does, the Twins may just find that next ACE. Reading about his slider brought me back all those years to what Liriano was, before that first injury. Is it possible that like Liriano, his slider puts so much stress on his arm that it will always cause him to have arm troubles? I certainly hope not. Couldn't tell from the article when we could expect him to begin throwing in games. Expect that is because no one knows. Is that correct?

    When thinking about Miller, I also think about his brother. When drafted, many talked about his being a better prospect than his brother. His brother went the college route and has now been in the big leagues for the past couple years with his bat as his best tool. If Noah had gone to college, would he have been drafted last year? Or this coming June? There is lots Of time for his bat to develop,

    I would respond to the title of your piece, Cody, no, their next shortstop played at Cedar Rapids last year. And no way is this kid an unknown prospect. He was a huge signee a few years ago and shouldn’t be flying under anyone’s radar.

    Don't have a clue, or an opinion, of when or how the Twins should extend Lewis. I do have an opinion about this young man, however. And that is that I want to see him play his entire career with the Twins. As for a comparison with Witt. Hate seeing Witt come up with runners in scoring position in a close game. But I truly expect Lewis to be the better player over the remainder of their careers.

    Appreciate the work you guys do with the minor leagues. Have one comment and a question, regarding your recap. How can the best defensive shortstop in all the minor leagues not break into your Top 20? It isn't like he struck out 50% of the time and hit a buck fifty. Have never seen him play, but someone that good defensively at the game's most important position is one heck of a prospect in my book. My question relates to Prielipp. Your prior report talked about his not having TJ surgery, rather something I assume was less serious. Like Canterino, is Prielipp on track to be throwing in spring training? If he is throwing, are there any reports of what he looks like?

    How far has the Twins rotation fallen? Not as far as most of you fear. Add me to those who believe Ober will be their very solid #2. You would think his last name was Dangerfield, cause he just can't get no respect. And wasn't Ryan their opening day starter a couple years ago?

    What I got out of this piece and comments is that the Saints are gonna have a hell of a bullpen. I want to see Varland and Canterino begin their seasons in St. Paul. Stretch out both to start with Varland going 5-6 innings and Canterino going 4+ to limit his innings. Varland is the first man up when the Twins need a starter, either for a doubleheader or if someone goes on the IL. He does that until the first of August when he is switched to the pen in St. Paul before joining the Twins mid-August as a lights out late reliever for the pennant run. Canterino accumulates innings in St. Paul until June. He then moves to the Saints pen pitching 1 or 2 innings each time out. After doing that for a couple weeks, he joins the Twins around the All-Star break. How exciting would it be going into the playoffs with both of these young men throwing bullets out of the pen?

    My question, Nick, will he play for the Twins before the end of this season? Mickey Mantle broke into the show as a 19 year old. Someday there will be another Mantle. I ask, why can't it be Jenkins? Sure would be nice seeing him in a Twins uni and playing left field come September.

    True, true and true. But you could have said the same about Correa two years ago. Then Boras and the FO had that phone call that nobody expected. Just saying, who knows?

    We don't know the exact numbers of the tv deal and I am not going to speculate. But it is probably more than their worst case scenario. Their current payroll is what, $115M? Let's further assume that last year's $155M was at least $10M greater than they wanted. None of us know what their books say, but that might have put them at break-even or even a tiny loss. I also understand there are concerns for dollars in 2025 and beyond. But, it looks like they would have room to have that discussion with Boras like they did two years ago and sign either Montgomery or Snell (both are still unsigned, right?) to that one year deal for say, $20M with a few kickers.

    Love how the Twins strengthened the back end of their bullpen this winter. Should add a few wins compared to last year, perhaps more than enough to offset the loss of Gray. As you wrote about the various lefties available to them, I kept thinking you didn't mention Jovani Moran. Yes, he is no longer on the 40-man, but I had to check to confirm he is still on the St. Paul roster. If he could only figure out a way to reduce the number of walks, he could be special. Expect this also means Funderburk will begin his season in St. Paul, adding to their depth for the season.

    With Gray gone, the Twins #2 spot in the order may not be as good this year. On the other hand, their record in his starts wasn't what one would expect when looking at his personal numbers. What they did do this year is strengthen the depth of their bullpen. Where last year they had several rotating arms at the end of the pen, this year they have solid options with several years of big league experience. Got a feeling the bullpen is gonna offset any potential losses from the starting rotation.

    The number that stuck out to me was 535 plate appearances. He played a lot of baseball last year. Expect there were a few, but don't recall any of the better Twins prospects playing that much. Assume that ERod will be #3. In a direct comparison, how do they compare? Would be great if one of the two becomes a very good player for the Twins a couple years from now.

    Loved this kid when they picked him, like him better after seeing what he did last year. Will yield to the Twins as to when he joins the Twins staff and in what role.

    Great comment, tarheel. I don't remember a lot of names, but I remember Sargent Moore from nearly 60 years ago. I was fortunate regarding the weather, did my training at Fort Ord the summer of 1967.

    Appears this young man could be another great late round pick by the Twins. Prior to later last summer, knew nothing about him. Thanks for a great report, Seth. One thing that caught my eye was that he is from Seton Hall. If memory serves, several other of the recent mid-to-late round picks who have garnered excitement were also from East Coast schools that aren't as highly thought of as the SEC and ACC baseball powers. Is that part of the formula for the Twins when finding these nuggets in the rough? Find interesting prospects at schools that aren't as highly scouted? Players at these schools also haven't had the same exposure or access to the best coaching and technology available at say, UNC, Arizona State or LSU?

    The Twins don't have a lot of depth ready for the corner outfield spots. Castro is their super utility guy, and Larnach is at AAA. With this signing, they could play Santana a lot at first base with AK moving to either left or right. So I see this signing as a big boost to their depth at first base and the corner outfield spots. With one spot available, looks to me like Gordon gets it, unless he has a terrible spring and one of Miranda or Larnach has a HUGE spring. Would be surprised if any of this trio would bring much back in a trade, hopefully, either Miranda or Larnach has a nice first half with either the Twins or Saints and either secure a role with the Twins or gain another teams notice.

    I would compare him to a young Derek Jeter, both on and off the field. Take a look at Jeter's numbers beginning with his age 26 season. That's what I expect you are going to see from this young man. As for those who blame the Twins for not keeping him healthy. If memory serves, his first injury was slipping on the ice when he was in Dallas training with Torii Hunter.

    I have thought for awhile that the organization had two potential ACES, Canterino and Prielipp. The big question is whether or not they still can be following long layoffs from serious injury? We may learn a lot about Canterino over the next few months.

    Is that an argument, arby, that Ober is talented enough to be a legit #2? Maybe the FO agrees with you. That would explain their not going out and signing/trading for that high priced starter.

    Really like what this group of Twins scouts and draft guys have done by drafting college pitchers in the rounds following the first couple. We have already seen Ober and Varland reach the majors with it appears several more on the way. Considering how difficult it is to feel good after guys like Stewart and others flamed out, this sure seems to be working. Expect a lot of credit is also due the pitching coaches in the system who are getting the most out of some of these guys. Now if the doctors can get Prielipp and Canterino healthy, we just might have a lot of fun watching this team over the coming years.

    The Twins took Brandon Winokur 82nd in the 2023 Draft, although he was (on our consensus board) the 124th prospect in the draft class. Let's take a look at what prompted them to take him above that expected spot. I always get a good smile out of comments like the above. A group of guys, and maybe gals, read reports prepared by others, talk about players and speculate where they think they should be drafted. The Twins have what, 50 professional scouts, many who have seen player X play a lot. Most of these scouts and other sources have been in the business for a long time and likely have first hand relationships with a kids coaches and opposing coaches. So when they choose a player at #82, it is likely that is where they believe the player should be drafted, not 124th or wherever else people who have never seen him play expect him to be drafted.
