  1. The biggest impact of the Polanco trade is that the Twins can now keep two of Miranda, Larnach or Gordon on opening day versus just keeping one prior to the trade. Considering he is out of options and unless the Twins bring in another outfielder prior to opening day, is likely that second player is Gordon. Lots of talk in your piece, Ted, about platooning AK and Julien and their not being able to hit lefties. There really shouldn't be any reason they can't, other, than they haven't been given the opportunity to gain experience against them. I would HOPE that Rocco and staff will give both a lot of opportunities in spring training to prove that theory wrong. That would be huge for the Twins results if both aren't taken out of games as soon as a leftie starts stretching the opponents bullpen. Also don't see Miranda as a platoon partner for the "corner infield" positions. He and Royce are both right handed hitters, so that isn't likely. I expect Miranda to be a lot like the player he was two years ago and see him as playing some first base and a lot of DH come 2024.
  2. Enjoyed the report, Greg, thanks. Found two points that I must disagree with, however. One is your comment, "The sad reality is that front offices are constantly playing a value game, trying to keep as much talent in the organization as possible." Isn't the Front Office job to develop the most talented organization they can. Why is that sad? The other comment was that some formula shows Polo was worth $90M. No, Polo was worth $25,750,000 which is what a willing buyer, the Twins, and a willing seller, Polo, agreed on. I always just smile and shake my head when reading some of these off the wall estimates of a player's value.
  3. Knew nothing about this kid, thanks for an excellent report. Don't see any need to even mention where he plays related to Jenkins. Jenkins isn't going to spend much, or any, time in Ft. Myers this spring.
  4. After his performance in the AFL, gotta believe Rosario will perform well in AA. Every time I read about Keaschall, I find it hard to believe he was available when the Twins picked him. Anyone know why?
  5. Interesting report, Seth, thanks. As I expect is the case with any Twins fan, it flat out hurts to read your report of Canterino and Prielipp. We may never know, but both have what it takes to be a front line starter and maybe even that elusive ACE. Maybe 2024 will be the year both get back on track. Hopefully, we will see Canterino in Target Field before the summer is over with Prielipp joining him mid-2025.
  6. Now the Twins can use Varland like I was hoping for all offseason. That begins in St. Paul's starting rotation. Gets called up several times to make anywhere from a few to a dozen starts for the Twins in doubleheaders or when Pitcher X is out for a few weeks or Paddack/Ober need to rest their arms for a week or two. Come August, Varland moves to the pen in St. Paul for a couple weeks then joins the Twins as another shut down late inning reliever for the playoffs.
  7. Underrated? Not to me, heck, he probably will give the Twins the biggest return in 2024 from any of the four new guys. Along with the handful of guys already brought in for the pen via waivers, the bullpen should now be set. I know there has been lots of gripping about what the Twins are getting for Polo. Yes, they aren't getting that Lopez quality starter. But does anyone really believe that there was a better deal to be had and the Twins didn't take it? Loved Polo and like Luis last year, will miss him. But the fact is that the Twins offense will likely be as productive without him as it would be had he stayed. Also means the Twins should now have two roster spots at the end of spring training for Miranda, Larnach or Gordon, not just one.
  8. Thanks, had forgotten that he came from elsewhere. Further substantiates my belief that the Twins haven't gotten much from the International market. When I see all these teams with several studs from Latin America, I just don't understand why the Twins haven't hit on more players who contribute?
  9. Changed my response from 'like' to 'sad', tarheels. Reason is that I am sad the Twins no longer have that team in Elizabethton. To win it this year, the Twins are gonna have to get a good year from at least one of those relievers. Doesn't have to be another Brock Stewart, but has to be solid, very solid. That is unless they go out and get someone who gets it done.
  10. Very interesting read, Jamie. Recall noticing his name often last summer when looking at daily box scores. My biggest question is whether or not he can stick at catcher, even as a #2 guy. Appreciated your comments that suggest that remains a question to be answered. There aren't a lot of catchers with good speed. His 92% success rate stealing bases is excellent, however, it would have helped if you told us how many bags he stole. 92% on 11 attempts is a lot different than 92% on 44 attempts. Another thought that crossed my mind when you mentioned he signed for $20K, was how little the Twins have gotten out of their International signings the past 20 years or so. Yes, they had that huge year when they signed Sano, Polanco and Kepler. They also hit the jackpot when signing Arraez for what was it, $40K? But who else have they signed that has played more than a few games at Target Field? Is there anyone? I know there were a couple of Aussies a while back and Astudillo. But none of those were around all that long. Sure would be nice if ERod and maybe another couple of these recent signings actually made it.
  11. Got a feeling Doc, that our eyes are of similar age. What I am excited bout is all these young studs working their way up the ladder. Was also thrilled with today’s Strib comments bout Buxton’s, AK’s and Miranda’s health.
  12. Sorry, Doc. I checked and saw Feb, 2005 as his birth date. Don’t remember where that was. edit: Just checked again and MILB shows his birthdate as Feb 19 2005.
  13. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but won’t Jenkins be 19 during all of the 2024 season?
  14. Correct me if I am wrong, but Mantle is in the HOF, isn’t he?
  15. The Mick joined the Yankees a few months before his 20th birthday. Jenkins turns 20 in February 2025. So to match Mick’s timeline, he needs to join the Twins late this year. Someday there will be a player as good as Mantle. I say, why can’t it be Jenkins?
  16. Appreciate your mention of Eddie. He, Hank and Joe Adcock. That was some legit power.
  17. Recall when he was drafted most thought he wouldn't sign and were surprised when he did. Must admit, have forgotten about him. Thought he might be special back then, lets cross our fingers.
  18. Enjoyable read, Cody. One comment and one observation. How can Lee and Jenkins be breakout candidates when they are ranked 1-2 on most prospect lists? Have always been a Miller fan, but didn’t realize his D was so elite.
  19. Interesting list, thanks. Add me to the list of those who believe in Canterino. Yes, I would have him higher on your list, much higher. And must disagree with one of your comments regarding Jenkins. Although unlikely, this kid just might join the Twins late this year. Will repeat my earlier comments that he just might be the modern day version of Mickey Mantle. Well, hopefully at least on the diamond.
  20. I pray that Canterino will finally have put his health problems behind him. I know they still talk about him being a starter, but he just won't be able to pitch that many innings in 2024. So I see him maybe beginning as a starter in the minors for a month or two, then moving to the pen for a month before joining the Twins. Hopefully, we see him at Target Field by the All-Star break.
  21. The Twins really need one of this foursome to come through with a big year. Expect the most likely is Alcala, but could be anyone. Didn't need to read your opening reminding us that Sands making the team meant they released Coloumbe. Sure could have used that lefty last year.
  22. I hope he gets his chance early and runs with it. REally enjoyed this comment with a big smile. Thanks.
  23. "imposing significant, unnecessary payroll cuts in response to not having a regional broadcasting deal." After reading the above part of the post, it became apparent to me that the rest of the post wasn't worthwhile reading.
