  1. "Zebby is 87 pitches in…….he’s got 2 outs and he JUST gave up a double to the #9 hitter". Yep......And wasnt that just the second hit he'd given up ALL night??
  2. Mod: Be sure to run all User Names through P-Sab. He is clearly the authority on determining what User Names are acceptable. How dare fellow Twins fans be permitted to identify themselves as they wish?? P-Sab, You've told us everything we need to know about you ........ let's stick to baseball.
  3. RE: Del Unser remarks.....that would be Ray Corbin.
  4. Remind me again,.......who are the subsequently successful Twins-drafted pitchers that we've lost under Falvey because they were out of options?
  5. Good time for a quick review.........position players placed on the IL must remain there for at least 10 days. Pitchers and two-way players placed on the IL must remain there for at last 15 days. This represents no change from 2023. Placement on either of these ILs may be made retroactively for up to 3 days as long as said player has not appeared in a game. The ability to apply the IL to a player retroactively is why teams often identify lightly injured players as "day to day". If the player shows no significant signs of improvement within 3 days, the team can make a retroactive declaration. Players on either of these ILs may be (and most always are) replaced on the 26 man active roster. Injured position players, pitchers and two-way players may be placed on the 60 day IL. A player on the 60 day IL does not count against the team's active or 40 man rosters. Teams may (and often do) add another player to their 40 man roster. A player may be shifted from the 10 day/15 day IL to the 60 day IL, but not vice-versa. Back in 2011, MLB instituted a 7 day IL as part of their concussion protocol; allowing for a slightly shorter IL stay for players sustaining a blow to the head. Such players may be placed on the longer ILs if needed to ensure their recovery. Last and not least, players recovering from injuries on the 60 day IL may rehab in the minor leagues (while still on the injured list) to ramp up for re-appearing in the MLB. Position players have up to 20 days, while pitchers and two-way players have up to 30 days. Hope this refresher helps!!
  6. Interesting exercise, Jeremy. Today's protected list changes tomorrow (figuratively). Thought it might be fun to take a look back at what the Twins have lost in previous expansion drafts. 1969 - KC Royals and Seattle Pilots (bankrupt Pilots move to Milwaukee prior to the next season!!??) Bob Oliver (OF/1B), Pat Kelly (OF), Jackie Hernandez (SS) and Jerry Cram (P) to KC Buzz Stephen (P) and Rich Rollins (3B) to Seattle 1977 - Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays Steve Braun (OF) to Seattle Jerry Garvin (P), Al Woods (OF), Bill Singer (P), and Dave McKay (2B/3B) to Toronto 1992 - Florida Marlins and Colorado Rockies Tom Edens (P) to Florida; and traded to Houston Astros for Hector Carrasco (P) and Brian Griffiths (P) Jayhawk Owens (C) to Colorado 1998 - Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks Brent Brede (1B) and Damian Miller (C) to Arizona None to Tampa
  7. MLR.......on point! Last week we had a very regular poster comment that he did not read an article, then proceed to place "the blame" (his words) on the front office. The article had NOTHING to do with any "blame", it was an observational conversation regarding the impact of Scott Boras on MLB and, most specifically, the Minnesota Twins. Thanks much for your tap on the shoulder! I spent the past hour listening to this interview. No remarkable news, but did provide insight into Rocco's personality, style and mindset.
  8. Pretty sure Brendan Harris came to the Twins along with Delmon in the Garza/Bartlet deal with DRays.
  9. Nick.....i wouldnt be surprised if this IS the Twins....actually the first thing that came to my mind when i read on MLBTR. Two years at $5M each for a SP is right in their wheelhouse. His AA numbers when he played here in Hbg, PA over parts of 4 seasons were not shabby. Reports he found "more horizontal" with the slider and tweaked his change-up grip in KBO......where he was league MVP in '23. Uh oh....now i've absolutely convinced myself it IS the Twins. LOL Only thing missing is a cutter!!
  10. Ya beat me to it, L.A. 1. Money 2. Our favorite team plays 1/3 of their homes games outdoors in football weather 3. And $$$$$$$$
  11. All of the these 'people' were/are 30 days removed from becoming free agents. Why would this temporary opportunity cause any of them to "move their family over and over"?? Many have travelled much farther, for far greater durations and under far different circumstances as called upon by their profession; this at far greater risk and for far less compensation. So compared to the real world, yea, pretty much is rainbows and sunshine.
  12. Yep, gotta feel bad for the guys mentioned most in this thread.....making $3.6M (Lopez), $5.2M (Bader), $7.5M (Moore), $8M (Clevenger), $10.3M (Grichuk) and $10.4M (Giolito) this year and now finding themselves claimed by a team in playoff contention. Is there anything worse than getting the opportunity to shine in the postseason in a contract year????
  13. Did i read that Keuchel's next opt out date is Aug 1? So likey one more Milb start. If it goes well he's gotta move up (in some capacity). History shows it takes precise control for a "soft-tossing lefty" to suceed at the MLB level. We're all pulling for him, but the 11 BB in 26 IP is difficult to ignore.. Saw that Evan Sisk threw for Omaha vs StP. There was some hand-wringing here over his inclusion in the Michael A. Taylor deal. His age 26 season not impressive. Evan Sisk Stats, Fantasy & News | MiLB.com Andrew Morris (round 4 - '22) should be on our prospect radar screen with solid first 10 games started as a professional (yes, SSS). But gotta like the ERA, BA against, K/9, and whip. He is 6'0", 195 lb at 21 yrs old. Andrew Morris Stats, Fantasy & News | MiLB.com
  14. NoT, Remember how pleased we were with Santana (19-6) and Liriano (12-3 at 22 yrs old) atop that staff?? Looked like a bright future. Your recollection is accurate with regard to the '06 BP in that Nathan, Neshek, Reyes (scope out his numbers over 66 games!?) and Ricon were solid in the BP.......Guerrier and Crain decent......Eyre, Lohse and Garza poor. However, the SPs do not carry the day vs this years team: Silva's 36G and 5.94 era, Radke 28 G at 4.32, with Bonser and Baker at 4.22 and 6.37 respectively. Team ERA (i know its only one stat): 2023 is 3.59.....2006 was 3.95. So you are correct, certainly comparable with half a season to play. The present starting five (Gray, Ryan, Lopez, Maeda, Ober) along with IL'd Mahle and Paddock is the best SP staff i remember (became a Twins fan in '66 at 8 yrs old). I mentioned this in FtM in late Feb and was laughed at. In the next breath I claimed the '23 Twins offense would be "just fine"......lol. I still hold hope for the latter. :-)
  15. Old friend Jake Reed DFA'd by Dodgers Dodgers DFA Jake Reed, Recall Victor Gonzalez - MLB Trade Rumors
  16. Baltimore Orioles beat Detroit Tigers 5-1 yesterday. Pitching box score: Kyle Gibson 6.1 IP 2 H 1 ER 2 BB 11 K Yennier Cano 1.2 0 0 0 3 Danny Coulombe 1.0 0 0 1 1
  17. Couldnt help but notice that the Guardians acquired 6'5" lefthanded SP Steve Hajjar from the Reds earlier in the week.
  18. More than a little disrespect from a TD mod??? "Had no upside"???? From Baseball Reference: He impressed in spring training in 2019 and started a dizzying ride to the majors, first posting a minute 0.40 ERA in 4 starts for the Fort Myers Miracle in the Florida State League, followed by going 4-2, 2.57 in 11 games in AA with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, and then 5-2, 2.15 in 9 games for the Rochester Red Wings in the International League. His record between the three stops was 12-4, 2.07 with a 109/28 K/W ratio. The Twins, who were leading the AL Central division largely on the strength of their bats at that point, decided to ignore his less than stellar pedigree and give him a shot, since no one at any level had been able to figure out his pitches until then. In 9 games for the Twins, including 5 starts, he went 2-1, 1.59, and continued his mastery of the strike zone, with 23 strikeouts and 5 walks in 28 1/3 innings. I recall he added a pitch in ST in '20 or '21 striking out nearly a batter per inning. I think it was a "splinker", but not sure. I also suspect it responsible for the hand problems he has suffered. I hope to have the opportunity to ask him in a month. He's always been a class act, accessible and fan-friendly. He most certainly has pitching upside and can contribute to the Twins at the MLB level again. Also..... Mark's article reports Paddock "appeared to have worked in an adequate slider to pair with his fastball and changeup" upon joining the Twins. Seems "adding new pitches" comes with a risk.
  19. All of us should be hoping for the best with Austin Martin who will turn 24 just before Opening Day, but its not likely that he "sticks with the big league club" in 2023. Remember, he hit .241 BA/.682 OPS with a fielding percentage of .922 (18 errors in 67 games) at SS at AA level last year. He is not (presently) on the 40 man roster. Safe to say further development is needed/recognized. All of this mentioned in the context of orig post regarding the acquisition of SS Ha-Seong Kim.
  20. Furthering the confusion, this report examines the upside to the Jair Carmago (C) resigning......but features the image of Johan Carmago (SS) applying a tag at 2B during his time up with the Phillies. Did i miss the final verdict on this? MLB, MiLB, CBS and others continue to report Johan, as does the St Paul Saints roster showing him assigned #17. Other than Aaron Gleeman's report, i can find nothing to verify Jair has resigned. Last entry in various Transactions pages for Jair is "assigned to Tigres del Licey" for winter ball. Actually, i hope the Twins signed both; nothing earthshattering, but reasonable minor league depth at positions of need. Jair is 23 yrs old, while Johan is 29.
  21. Great work, Seth. While those Severino stats were incorrect (since updated)....they were a great reminder of the year Miranda had in MiLB in '21. Wow!!
  22. Guess we may get an indication of this as soon as Friday, the deadline to tender a contract to the arb and pre-arb players. Could sign player(s) removed from other teams' rosters to a minor league deal with ST invite, but must clear 40 man space for Rule V participation. GM meetings Dec 4-7, so trades from 40 man roster possible there.......Rule V draft on last day of those meetings. As is, the only 40 man slot is the one that will open at end of Spring Training when Paddock goes onto 60 DL. Will be interesting to watch how this plays out. GO TWINS!!
  23. Thx for the reminder, Chris......yet another reason to admire Kevin Millar. Congratulations on a fine baseball career, KM!! Great that you have been able to come full circle in StP.
