  1. Certainly gone are Pino, Burton(option declined), Fryer, Collabello, Florimon, Nunez Possibly gone are Ibarra, Johnson or Darnell, Pressly, Deduno, Parmelee. That should open up enough spots, Added, Sano, Rosario, Meyer and Oliveros, Twins will need to read Plefrey. Possibly Adam, Ortiz, Wimmers(only because he is a first round draft pick and some club might take an upside flyer on him) I believe Pryor is already on the 40 man so nothing would have to be done with him. Agree Ryan might have to be creative and package some of the prospects for an outfielder since that crop is weak and do not expect any of the prospects to start the year here.(Hicks maybe, but remember the last two years, would prefer to force him to earn his way up here).
  2. No reason for another SS, Need at least one outfielder to fill in for a year or 2. I have no expectation after the Buxton injury, he will be here before 2016 or 2017. Let's make sure that area is covered.
  3. Hard to tell Pinto's future at this point, if the Twins see him only as DH/backup catcher he should be packaged and traded, if he is to be given a shot at the regular catching job the Twins should keep him. We will see what they think this winter.
  4. Twins at least are not selling low. They are getting some prospects for players sent(some lottery tickets), but better than nothing or org filler. Adam looks like another one of these, good job TR.
  5. Escobar does need to be in the mix at SS. Do not know whether he or Santana will be better, but competition is better there than in several years.
  6. Diamond did nothing at Rochester this year. A good game or two should not change that. There are always factors we do not know. One thing I do know is he needed a new start somewhere else. There are others you might make this comment about(Worley). but Diamond is not one I am worried about.
  7. I see Santana as the shortstop of the future(at least the next 2-3 years). Depending on how the Twins feel, Hicks could be the CF/LF starting next year or be in Rochester to make that level, Escobar can move to the super utlilty role. Twins may have to buy a corner outfielder for a 1-2 year deal until all the minor leagues get to Minnesota. Buxton will not be in Minnesota until mid 2015 at the earliest. Best would be to trade Dozier while his value is very high for a good corner outfielder and more(very good second basemen are worth more than corner outfielder) I would suggest either Ethier or Kemp with the Dodgers eating some amount of the pay for either. Ethier is more of a platoon outfielder based on splits and should cost less, plus another player.
  8. May has had consistency issues until this year. May had a high ERA and walk rate in AA. This year has been much better. He should be up soon. I still expect Milone to take Darnell's spot. Maybe the Twins feel May and Meyer would be better served pitching in a playoff atmosphere in Rochester. Either of these pitching in September would not be clear as the lineups get watered down at that time. I am fine with Pino pitching innings up here. Darnell has not cut it and it is time for next man up. That is going to be Milone.
  9. twins are a team in change. Hard to read the pitching except that Kansas City is also offense challenged, even more than the Twins. Have to give the Twins a "B" for the day. Moves were small, but not unexpected.
  10. I think Santana will be in CF with Escobar as the SS. Most of the Twins affiliates will be in the playoffs, so we won't see any of the rest until mid-September. Think most of the players you think are gone will still be here, exceptions might be Correia and Willingham. It looks close to what will probably be.
  11. Great trade for the Twins(at least that is how it looks). Will see what happens now, but the shuffling the rest of the week should lead to plenty of comments. Great to see what Vargas has, if not to see what work he has in Rochester next year. All it shows is that the Twins hope to see all of their minor league affiliates make the playoffs, New Britain just has the worst chance of it.
  12. Believe Oakland also got Gomes in the deal, so they do not need a platoon right handed hitting outfielder. Reading all the posts on mlbtraderumors, there seems to be more to this then meets the eye, so can understand why this happened. According to a post late yesterday on mlbtraderumors(sorry do not know how to link them), Boston found out there was 0 chance of resigning Lester at the end of the year, this was making the best of a bad situation, still Boston got a very good deal on a rental.
  13. Interesting move, shows the A's are all in for 2014.
  14. This seems to be coming down to a game of "chicken". Many GM's seem to be taking a chance that sellers will want to move players and the later it gets, the more likely they can get who they want for little or nothing. Twins are a prime "A" example for this as none of the players they want to move are great and none of the GM's wanting these players are willing to give anything more the organizational filler. My feeling is that Twins will not be involved today and only player likely to be moved next month is Correia if he is let go to a team that claims him.
  15. This is a balancing act, I somewhat agree with the majority of posters here, which is to trade players who will not be here next year for any somewhat decent return you can get, and if you struggle to get to 70 wins this year as a result, oh well. The problem with that approach is it will not sit well with the owners, who have to sell tickets for next year and could be back to a small market revenue approach without improvement to boost sales. Tough position, but owners may have to absorb some risk in that it takes money to make money.
  16. I believe May will make 1 more start in Rochester to get to 100 pitches and then be in the Twins rotation. Willingham would have to be traded to get Pinto to Minnesota, that will not happen in the next couple of days( Per note on MLBtraderumors quoting Terry Ryan). Twins will probably let the minor leagues play out now for the playoffs and only move more players as needed due to injuries.
  17. I hope Gibson gets his strikeout rate up next year, but this has been a very good first year. He his going to be much better than Blackburn
  18. Just what was not needed, another great pitching prospect with arm trouble. Hope it is minor, but will not know for a few days.
  19. It would not hurt to call. If we could sent Plouffe and a minor prospect or Arcia and a piece for McHugh or Keutchel, I would look at it, you can never have enough pitching. Twins still have plenty of outfield prospects and could possibly buy one if needed later. Decent pitching is hard to come by and if the Twins do not want to put all their eggs in the farm system two to three years down the road, this would be a good way to go.
  20. It does seem like more ex Twins pitchers are doing well after leaving here. Jury is still out, but if the trend continues, I could see the basis for firing Anderson, that would also probably take Gardy with him
  21. Getting something in return is better than 0. Twins should not resign him and we must realize this is a buy low. Get an A prospect that has a chance would be good. That is about all you can expect.
  22. Do not see a reason to move him unless the offer is good. I would guess about 25% unless TR feels he has better options coming up. Will he be here 2 years from now, I would guess not, so moving him for the right offer is in the Twins best interest.
  23. Colabello could be a bench bat. Agree on the other 4. Hope Santana and Arcia turn into starters on the next good Twins team. Will see more the second time around for Santana. Pinto could be a decent catcher, we have more on the way 2-3 years out. Pressly has a chance to be good or a reliever like Swarzak for the next several years. Tonkin will wait and see, Twins have many reliever types on the way up, is Tonkin better or worse than them? RIght now I feel worse, but we shall see. Polanco probably has a future here. Most of the rest are filler types and need chances to see which we keep and which on sent on their way. This is why the Twins need to give these players chances in the next two years, you do not want them to have to be given chances on good Twins clubs.
  24. Problem with cleaning out the expiring contracts is Correia and Willingham will bring nothing in return. Duensing and Burton will bring next to nothing in return. Best bet is to trade Swarzak and move Correia to long relief. I also am from bringing up the kids, but trades have to make sense. Otherwise bring them up in September and clean the roster at the end of the year. Do not think Terry Ryan is part of the problem, he had nothing in the farm system when he started and has rebuilt it to the second best system in baseball. That system will show up if not next year in 2016, though I think we should go with all kids in 2015 and hope the improvement takes over in 2016. Just have enough veterans around to show the way.
  25. This may not be all Gardy's fault. That being said the Twins seem to hit the wall at the same time every year. If this year is the same, (there have been many more injuries to the pitching staff this year), it will be time for a change. Do not know if it will happen, because Twins also might have to replace TR to do it. That probably will not be a good thing.
