  1. Vargas looks like a perfectly acceptable DH I think it may be time to look into dealing Grossman for some SP or RP help. He is coming back to earth quite a bit and I fear won't hit enough to justify regular time at DH
  2. The time to sign him I am afraid was this last off season. It's a shame we wasted a full cheap year of him by running him out to RF 100 times. I tend to think that he may not even want to stick around on this club, I imagine that the comments about his weight, going home to the DR etc don't sit very well with him. His star power would be massive as well in a major market. If he were a Yankee, Red Sox, Dodger or Cub he would be one of the faces of baseball.
  3. I'm not sure the Twins should try to trade for a starter, those prices are usually sky high. I do think though, without a doubt they should trade for a RP or three. Bullpen is what will ultimately doom this team imo. You can scrap together a rotation of: Santana, Santiago, Hughes, Berrios and be "ok" as they will keep you in most games. But the bullpen needs help, big time.
  4. At the end of the day the Mets should have kept this in house, instead they do what they always do and attack through the media. (The Twins do this as well) This is why the Mets are considered a joke and a second rate team in this city, and why they haven't won anything since 86.
  5. I'm not trolling the game threads, good lord, that is clearly all in good fun.
  6. But I will keep my hicks love to general baseball and ganetheads for now
  7. Not every post was lengthy. Its showing an unfair bias (I'm not the only one who clearly sees this)
  8. Did he lie about it? He was being honest, a migraine is why he stayed home. Yes it was prob due to a hangover, but better he sleep it off then not. Also SP don't need to be at night games the night before they start a day game. All teams do that.
  9. Fired Comey. Very Nixonesque of him.
  10. The guy talking about Z% etc I think is looking a little too hard for some faults in Hicks. Nobody thinks he is going to keep up a .340 BA and 1.100 OPS, but when you have power (6 HR aren't an accident), have a good eye at the plate (more BB then K) you are going to find success in this league. I have watched about 20 Hicks at bats live this year (and another 10-15 highlights) he looks very sure of himself at the plate. He looks like the player we always hoped he could have been.
  11. Often times they are. The Twins certainly won the AJ trade, I imagine most Giants fans would say they "lost" that trade.
  12. So I have had no less than 3 posts deleted by the overzealous moderation team in the past 48 hours, all of which were responding directly to people bringing up Aaron hicks and how he can't "keep this up" etc Just worth bringing attention to this weird issue. I understand somewhat about you moving my hicks thread, but now to censor me to not even mutter the word Hicks in response to specific posts saying Hicks isn't good/hasn't turned a corner? A little much.
  13. Papelbon was always a d***, Papelbon isn't out of the league because he is a jerk, it's because he is old, and not good anymore. Also Harvey hasn't gotten into any fights with his teammates, his biggest crime is drinking on an off day (The horror!)
  14. LOL at people saying the Twins should steer clear of Harvey. Few things: 1. It's not uncommon for pitchers to not show up the night before they pitch a day game. 2. It's not against the law to go out partying until 4am 3. Harvey isn't the first nor the last professional baseball player to have a hangover. However, since it occured on a day where he wasn't playing/needed, it's literally a non issue. It's the equivolent of a 9-5er being hungover on a Saturday. Does that have anything to do with his performance at work at all? No. 4. The Twins have had plenty of partiers over the years, in fact their most famous big partier was a key cog in their two world series titles! Kennnnnt HRRRRRBBBBBBEEEEEEKKKKKK. The Mets are the idiots here who are airing their dirty laundry to the press, that franchise is a mess and a laughstocking 5x more than it's not. I would give up anyone not named: Berrios Sano Buxton Kepler Gordan Gonsalves Dozier For him straight up. In fact, I think the Twins can see if they can build a package around Erv Santana for him.
  15. Yes, I'm not saying people shouldn't like Chicago Deep Dish P*****, just that it is not Pizza
  16. HSO: Deep Dish Pizza isn't Pizza. If you have to eat it with a fork and knife it's not pizza.
  17. Au Cheval is the best burger you will ever eat. It's usually a 2-3 hour wait, but there are plenty of bars near by to get a few pre meal drinks.
  18. In the day of 1,000,000 man bullpens and SP who can't go more than 100 pitches, there really is no place for a guy whose main role is PR (unless it's the playoffs), but even then, Santana isn't exactly Billy Hamilton or even Aaron Hicks on the base paths. I think Santana ultimately is just AAAA type depth, he can fill in for a week or two if your 2B or SS gets injured, he can step in during that time and be the Util bench guy. It wouldn't shock me to see him "play" in the majors for another 4-5 years, but it also wouldn't shock me if with that he never saw more than 120 at bats a year as well.
  19. Yup, the drafting college RP early seems to have failed BIG TIME. My worry is that for the most part, many of those main decision makers still exist within the org.
  20. We can poo poo on Santiago and his limited upside, but I would much rather sign him as a 5th starter than the guy we are facing tonight.
  21. Guys who can give you 180 IP and #4/#5 performance are worth 2/20 imo. Especially when you have a team like the Twins.
  22. Hopefully we don't see Chapman pitching for the Twins. I'm not hating on the trade, bc the best part is getting Santana off the roster, but if anything I view Chapman as decent AAA depth for when we start cutting more BP guys and calling up more and more from AA and AAA
  23. Why again is Berrios not up yet? Wouldn't it be wise to get him up in the majors for his bullpen session before his first start?
  24. I mean, obviously Santana isn't going to have a low 1.00's ERA, but I wouldn't call him a pretender. I think he is more than capable of being an "ace" for this club and one of the top 20 pitchers in all of baseball this year. Sano is as "real" as they get. Dozier will be fine, he seems to have been hitting the ball harder lately IMO. Santiago will settle in as a solid #3.
